Unapologetic Apathy
Nobody Comes to Visit
Nobody had come into the manor for months, years maybe. Sure, on Halloween you'd get some teenagers hangin on the property, but nobody ever went inside. Everybody thought the legends were jut fairy tales, but they still doubts it. Everybody who went inside was missing forever.
People clued in, decided not to go in for safety reasons, and the manor was empty yet again. Leaving me to starve alone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of having wreckless teenagers break into my home, but that's really the only food source I've had for centuries. They break in, I bite them, they never come out.
At a few points I've had police come in to investigate. But I just hid in the shadows and waited. I killed them, too. But they had already called for backup. I had to hide them in the walls. All of them. When the police came, I let them go. As a strategy, maybe some more will wander in thinking it's safe. But nobody did.
Frank, though, was different. He meant to kill me. I've had kids before who come in confident and arrogant wielding garlic and crucifixes. I quickly pounce on them and they see nothing coming. Frank, however, could fight back. he was strong, for a teenage human.
"Th deal has been made," I told him sternly, "and if you tell anybody about it, I will kill you."
Yes, we made te deal. It would either be the best thing I've ever done or the worst. It could expose me to the world and cause my death. But I got more blood out of it. Like I said before, nobody came into my manor anymore, and I was mostly starving,
"Yeah, yeah," Frank muttered. "I'll give you the first bag tomorrow."
He signed a contract actually. I kept some parchment in my library and he signed his name. I smiled and slipped in into a drawer. He looked timid and defated.
"Now, now, Frankie, it'll all be okay," I cooed at him sardonically. He flinched and I leaned closer to give him an intimidating smile. He had a fresh bite mark on his neck and I quickly continued at it, cleaning it up and licking the rest of the red of. He huffed in annoyance. I felt him reach for his knife, and I swatted his hand away. "If you try and kill me, the deal is off. I'm much stronger than you."
But he had knowledge. He'd killed a few younger vampjre's. They were rare, but they existed. If I existed, others did. The look in his eyes said he wanted to kill them all. Fine. Let him do it, as long as he kept his end of the deal.
My face tingled from where the holy water splashed me. It felt like fire, but it left no mark. It sounded like it was sizzling, but my face only went a little red. It hurt. It got in my eye, and I still couldn't see well. Soon it would develop into a rash of sorts. I hated the stuff.
"Yeah, I know. I have to go know. I'll bring it tomorrow."
And he left, and I felt smug. And a little bit araid. But hey, you had to take chances sometimes, right? This was probably the most exiting thing to happen in years!
I watched him leave out of the broken window, and be hardly noticed. When I couldn't see him anymore, I drew back the black curtains roughly. No sunlight could get in. It was certainly dark, now, but I could see quite well,
I went on my way, doing the normal routine. I just woke up, and the day was already more exciting than when the police tried to find the bodies in the cellar.
Which, by the way, we're not in the cellar.
They were here in the walls.
