Unapologetic Apathy
Sleepover
I could tell that Ray did not like me being here. He tried to remain calm, but his eyes were full of annoyance and his eyebrow twitched every few minutes. His knuckles were white on the steering wheel as he drove the few blocks to Frank's house.
"I don't see why he can't just stay in house own house! It's a huge mansion," Ray whisperred to Frank, who was in the front seat. I was sitting in the back seat by myself. They thought I couldn't hear them.
The car was confusing. It had doors, and somehow didn't run on steam or horses. There was an electronic device in the front. The windows worked by themselves. There were belts strapped across everyone in te car. I fiddled with mine nervously.
"He won't hurt anyone. And besides. The rebound struck him hard. He's a little off. He seemed like he desperately didn't want to be alone," Frank countered.
"That's exactly what he wants you to think," Ray sighed, "why are you always so..." He trailed off. I saw Frank frown.
"I am not trying to deceive you, if that's what you're thinking," I said to Ray. He shook his head in disbelief.
"Looks like I won't be sleeping tonight. With a vampire in our house," he grumbled.
"Ray, you slept just fine with Sam on our couch!" Frank exclaimed angrily. He crossed his arms. "Don't forget who's in charge, here, either. It is my house. I paid for it, and I set up the base in Jersey. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me."
"Well I think it would be all better if we had just stayed out of Belleville, if you ask me," Ray muttered. Frank opened his mouth to say something, but but his lip instead. Tere was a long silence before Ray asked me a question.
"Why are you staying here?" Ray asked me, "not at your house?"
"While working my ass off to complete a painful ritual to get YOUR friend back to normal, I was injured. The last time this happened, I was alone, and there was particularly bad results. Before you suspect me of decievery, think back to everything I did on the Blood Moon. Sam is healthy, by the way," I said quietly. My words must have sounded more intense than I meant them to, because Ray and Frank were very quiet the rest of the short ride.
We we got out of the car, and I followed Frank through the door like I'd done a few nights before. Out of the corner o my eye, I saw Ray slip something into his pocket. He gave me a look, then passed me through the door. He pulled Frank aside and told me to keep out of trouble. I heard everything they said through the wall.
"I think it's time to reconsider this deal," Ray hissed under his breath. Frank immediately snapped a no.
"Ray, I don't think you understand how crucial it is that I don't," Frank said, pretending to feel scared of me, "he's stronger than us all. If he suspects that Im being sneaky, he'll go after Sam again. And Kelsie. And everyone here."
"Fuck, Frank. Then it would have been easier to avoid if he didn't know where we fucking live, ever thought of that?" I heard Frank sigh.
"Just trust me. It was all make sense soon. Just don't try anything stupid, or you may get hurt." Frank left the room and joined me in the next one over. He flopped down on the couch where I had sat down and sighed dramatically.
"You okay?" I asked. Frank looked exhausted. His face was pale and he looked worn out.
"I'll be fine. Just a little dehydrated, that's all," he told me.
"Sorry," I said lamely. He laughed and curled into my arm. I hesitantly leaned in, looking around for Ray.
"Oh, Ray's not here. He threw a fit and left for the rest of the morning. He said he's locking all doors when he sleeps tonight, though. I said if he tried to hurt you, bad things woul happen, and that scared him off."
"Well, if he does try to kill me, I'm not responsible for any damage," I hummed into his neck. Frank made a happy noise and I started kissing him on his jawline and shoulder. He cuddled up to me more, and soon his legs were around my hips and he was giggling while he kissed me.
"You're so beautiful," he mumbled through a light kiss.
"I love you, Frankie," I said back with a crooked smile. He kissed me heavier . Soon I was on top of him and he was almost falling off the couch, and I was kissin his neck and leaving little love bites on his shoulder. He was laughing his head off as he almost slipped off the cushions in the ground, but I kept kissing him.
"I...love you...too," he said through giggles as I kissed at his neck.
Ray came home when the sun went down, after Frank and I had already went to his room. Frank was up, still roaming around and making snacks. I told him to drink some juice as he lost a lot of blood recently. He just laughed and told me to get in the shower.
I had trouble turning on the faucet. He had to come back up and how me how to do it. Then water came down and splashed me in the face. He showed me the heat settings and pointed towards some bottles of shower gel and shampoo. When he left, that's when I heard Ray downstairs. I ignored it and started washing my hair with the nice smelling soaps Frank had.
I got out of the shower and dried off, put on a shirt and some jeans Frank told me to wear, and came out of the bathroom feeling awkward. His clothing was comfortable, but the pants were tight and ripped, and the shirt felt too casual. I was used to dress shirts, neck ties, and dress pants. But I put the shirt on anyways and wore them downstairs. It had a cross on it, which I thought was ironic and most likely planned by Frank.
I came downstairs airs just as Ray was unpackin his stuff. On the table were weapons and various vampire hunting things. I barely paid them a glance as I wandered into the kitchen. Ray sneered at me.
"You're wearing Frank's clothes," he said, which I raised an eyebrow at.
"That's obvious," I replied. I saw a cell phone onthe counter, and remembering Frank's tutorial, I pressed a button. The screen lit up and I jerked back. The screen faded to black again, and I pressed the button again.
"That's my phone," he said and snatched it away.
"I wasn't doing anything on it," I argued.
"I don't want a vampire touching my phone," he said, and I scowled.
"Do you think I asked to be like this?" I said before I realised I was saying anything. It came out quiet and dangerous sounding. I couldn't stop myself from continuing my thought, "Frank and I will be doing another Blood Moon ritual in six months. Then I will be human."
Ray scoffed, "and you will still be with Frank? Don't lie to yourself: you're just using him. Walking bloodbag, that's what he is. And somebody to help you out with your little errands. And trust me, if it wasn't for this deal thing you made, he wouldn't still be here."
"That...deal," I spat, "is the only thing keeping you alive right now. I suggest you smarten up." I couldn't keep in the anamalistc growl. Ray jerked back and his hand went to his pocket. I ave him a look that said, "try me". Something may had happene if Frank hadn't come into the room.
"Ray, fucking calm down. Gerard, chill. I thought you changed, I really did. But you really would kill someone, wouldnt you? And Ray, don't you ever insult Gerard or my actions ever," Frank said with a demanding tone.
"I wasn't-" I started, but he shushed me.
"Stop trying to be all uppity all the time," he said, "both of you just settle down. Nobody is killing anybkdy. And Gerard wouldn't kill you....unless provoked." I glared at him, then I turned to give Ray a look over my shoulder. He was twisting a silver ring on his finger.
"I wasn't going to hurt him," I argued. Frank jut rolled his eyes.
"You know, I thought today would be a good time to tell Ray about...us. But if you two are fighting...." He trailed off.
"If you want to tel him, I am fine with that."
"okay. Here it goes."
