Can't You See Me?

Mikey's POV/

There it was. The same fucking glint in his eye he had fifteen fucking years ago. Regret. He didn't want this. He didn't want me. Here I was, standing in his home, basically telling him he was wonderful and I look like an idiot. He pisses me off. Thinking he can back out whenever he so pleased.

"Hey, Frank?" I asked. He perked up and smiled.

"Yeah?" He responded as he moved around me and went to get some drink.

"Are you regretting all of this?" I wasn't going to beat around the bush with him. He looked taken back. Like he wasn't expecting me to notice.

"Look, Mikey-" I scoffed.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I hissed. "You haven't changed."

"That's the point!" He shouted. I stared him down, my eyes begging him to elaborate on that.

"Look at you, you're so mature. So tall. Your-your hands feel stronger. The air around you is much more...manly than I remember. And here I am, still the same fucking teenager I was all those years ago," he said, avoiding eye contact. He did that a lot. He never looked me in the eyes for longer than five seconds, and I probably knew why. It was the same reason kids were terrified of me at school. My eyes had grown cold, they held little to no life. And why? Because the man standing in front of me left me all those years ago, and as much as I hated to admit it, he took my heart with him.

"Don't be ridiculous, Frank. Look at me. What's changed?" I asked.

"Everything," he mumbled, sniffling slightly. He could never hide when he was crying from me.

"And what about how I act. What's changed?"

"You just act a little colder to me, but that's expected. Other than that, you're still as I remember you," he said softly, as if realizing something. He smiled at me.

"I see what you mean, Mikey. I'm sorry for doubting." I allowed myself to smile at him and when I did, his face turned a shade of red.

"Even after all of these years, Frankie, I could never deny you. Any other person would have probably never have accepted the apology or agreed to start over. People will probably call me stupid, but I honestly really don't care. It's good to have my best friend back," I confessed. I felt like he and I were in high school again, and not men in our thirties. It felt nice to take a trip to the past after having avoided it for so long.

"Mikey," he murmured as he ran to me and clung to my chest, shaking slightly with silent sobs. I wrapped my arms around, brushing my hand through his messy hair, just like I used to whenever he cried on me.

"I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from doing something that stupid. Doing that ruined my life and ripped me away from you," he cried. I shook my head, shushing him.

"Don't say that. If all of this hadn't happened, you wouldn't have your girls," I said.

"That's true. They're my life. I love no one more than I love them. You always knew how to cheer me up," he said as he looked up at me. We stayed like that for a while, just staring at one another.

I suppose it was my turn this time. The bright side is I wasn't intoxicated.

Notes

So here's an update. Honestly, I'm surprised people are liking this story because it is so horribly written, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy <3 So thank you.

To the people reading Kill All Your Friends, I'm updating that next. Tonight.
