The Mansion of Solitude
Chapter 2
Frank pov
"It's-it's a note," I begin. "From the makers of this place."
He gives me a look then motions for me to open it.
I open the note and it reads:
"Frank, Gerard, there is a reason you have been brought here. You both have been in near death situations at least once in your life. Frank, you in a car crash, and Gerard in a suicide attempt," I clear my throat before speaking again. "This test is to see if you can do it again. See if you can escape the thing that confuses and frightens so many people. Death. You will have a certain amount of time to complete each task, and failure to do so will result in instant death. Only one of you is allowed to come to the end though. The other has to die before the end, or you both die. One of you has been given a deadly serum which is now coursing through your veins. You don't know who it is, but they will die a much longer gruesome death towards the end, or you can try to kill them yourself, giving them a much less painful death. Your choice and Good luck."
Me and Gerard share worried glances and I can feel my muscles tense. Gerard has to die before the end. It told me he does on the back of his neck. I just hope I don't get too attached, and it's going to be kind of hard not to since no we're both going to be locked up in the same deadly place for what could be days...or months.
"Let's just worry about the tasks before we start thinking about the...killing the other." He says, and I feel my muscles relax a little.
"Oh wait the note says something on the back too." I say, and read it carefully.
"The key is written in Crimson."
"What's that supposed to mean, blood?"
"I mean im guessing it means blood. We both have blood obviously, but I'm assuming it's something that's not involving us. It could be one of the blood pools, or the bloody knife."
Gerard nods and we head towards the pool of blood.
"See anything?" He asks.
"Nope. I wonder whose blood this is?"
"I don't know. Maybe we should try looking at the knife."
We head over that way and I take the knife off of the rope that it's hanging from on the wall. There's soft clicking noise and then everything goes silent. We both look up above us and a trap door has opened. My moment of happiness is slaughtered when a giant axe swings down, barely missing my head.
"What the fuck?!" I scream, clutching my head. Gerard still has a panicked look in his eye, but examines the knife.
"There's...nothing on it." He says, turning it over in every direction.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, it's just a bloody knife. Nothing special about it."
"Let me see." I say, grabbing the knife from his hands.
There really is nothing on it, except for blood.
"What do you think it meant then? Written in crimson?"
I see Gerards eyes open immediately after I say that.
"The walls, the words on the walls." He says, pointing to a word behind me.
"The only words I see are 'Murder' and the letter 'L'." I say, giving up on whatever his idea is.
"There's wallpaper. It's covering the rest of the word."
I feel my head perk up, as Gerard walks over to the wallpaper and tears it down revealing a word written in blood.
"Look inside the deepest wound." He reads.
"Our wounds." I mumble and look at my leg. Gerard softly touches the back of his neck and flinches at the contact.
"The key is...inside us..?" I question.
"Only one way to find out."
I can feel vomit rising in my mouth at the thought of doing this.
"Search my neck first." He says, and I slowly walk over.
"You sure you want to do this?"
"Or die? Yes I'm positive."
I nod and hold his head still with my hands. My hand swipes across the muscles that have no flesh and I search around feeling for anything that could be a key. The whole time he screams in agony, and I can't quite explain the feeling. It's like nausea filled with absolute hate for who is making me do this to a poor, innocent person.
The flesh detaches from his body and falls to the ground as I search further.
"I don't think it's in you." I say quietly, and he slowly turns around, his face tear stained and a look of complete and utter pain evident.
"M-My skin." He says, looking at the fallen skin that is now on the ground.
"We did that for n-nothing?"
"Well, I mean there was always a chance that-." I say and he cuts me off.
"Your turn."
"O-ok." I say, bracing myself for the pain.
He slowly holds the two pieces of flesh open, exposing the wound. He sticks his fingers through it and feels around.
When he enters his fingers into my leg, the blinding white pain rushes through my whole body and I feel as if I'm dying right now.
"F-F-Find anything?" I manage to choke out.
"Not yet."
He continues searching and occasionally gagging from touching the bone. I'm very surprised that I haven't passed out yet. Maybe they gave us something to make it so we don't pass out during the trials? I feel his hand wrap around something my leg.
"I think I found it."
I feel him try to pull it out, but just that one movement alone is the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life. I scream at the top of my lungs and in that moment his hand leaves my body and in his hand is an extremely bloody key.
I roll over onto my back and begin to cry. Never have I experienced something so painful. He rolls onto his back too and just lays there staring at the ceiling.
"We have to use the key now, we don't know, we could be being timed." He says, and I nod, slowly getting up, despite the nausea and agony im going through right now.
"Which door?" He asks, staring at the two doors side by side.
"Try the left one." I suggest and he turns the key.
As soon as the door opens, a bullet flies.
"Duck!" I yell, and we both fall to the ground.
"I'm guessing it's the other door..." I say quietly and he just silently gets back up, sticking the key into the keyhole.
This time when the door opens, were met with a white room. When we walk in, the door shuts behind us. All of a sudden a voice begins speaking.
"You have six hours before the next trial. You will get time to rest, but this is the
only time. Feel free to chat and 'get to know each other better.'" The voice says before Laughing high pitched and cracking.
The laugh alone sent a shiver down my spine, and I look over at Gerard.
"So we have six hours." He says.
"I bet this is a test. It probably expects us to have killed the other by the end of this. All we have to do is try to stay calm and not get mad at each other, ok?" I say.
He nods.
"So what do you remember before you came here?"
