What You Believe
Bacon Cheeseburger
“Thigh time” The voice came out from the door as I snapped my head to face the none vampire.
“No you’re not checking my thigh. Frank’s doing it.” I glared at Gerard who smiled walking further into my adoptive room.
“Nope me today sorry.” He smiled again reaching the bed as I continued to glare at him.
“You don’t know what you’re looking for, you’re not a vampire. Plus, it’s in an intimate position that I don’t feel comfortable flashing to the guy sleeping with my best friend. And, this is my bargaining tool so back off buddy and go get Frank.” I told him with my serious I’m not taking no for an answer tone.
“How do you know I’m not vampire? I know what I’m looking for I have done this quiet a few times. I have checked it before, remember? And he knows what your bargain is that’s why I am here.” He commented this time with a smirk as he sat on the edge of the bed.
“What how? Damnit the bloody mind thing.” I frowned looking at the door.
“How about we do a deal?” He waited to see me look over at him before carrying on. “I’ll tell you how you can stop Frank hearing your thoughts if you let me check your thigh.” He looked at me with a smirk. I considered the deal, knowing that either way Gerard will be checking my thigh so I might as well get something out of it.
“And you sneak me a bacon cheeseburger in?” I raised my eyebrow at him as he sighed loudly.
“Deal.” He mumbled moving the cover away from me. Since I was healing Frank said I wasn’t allowed any unhealthy processed foods and everyone was sticking by that rule. Even my own best friend hadn’t snuck me some much needed junk food.
“Ahh ahh shake it buddy.” I held my hand out accompanied with a challenging look, which quickly changed into a gleeful look when he shook my hand.
“To get him out of your mind you just need to think of two things at once. One is a distraction of the real thing.” He told me as he checked over the scar, breathing deeply through his nose. “So you’re thinking about trying to escape, you think about two scenarios. One where you use the window, the other where you use the door. He doesn’t know which one is true, if any. Or you think about something completely different that will distract him.” He carried on running his thumb over it as I flinched slightly. “Does that hurt?” He looked up at me with a frown on his face.
“No its fine.” I shook my head looking away.
“No you need to tell me the truth.” He told me moving his hand away completely, “Or I get Frank and he will find out.”
“It just… it feels weird.” I told him hoping he’d drop it, but knowing he wouldn’t.
“What do you mean?” He shuffled slightly, stroking his thumb back over it watching me closely.
“Your hands are different to his. They’re warm which should be more comforting but it’s not?” I asked in a sort of confused way, hoping he’d understand what I meant.
“No one is like the guy who did this Lydia. No one is going to hurt you again like that Lydia. Not while Frank’s around. You mean too much to him for him to lose you.” He understood. “It looks fine. I’ll go get your bacon cheeseburger.” He smiled at me as I readjusted my pyjama’s.
“Fries and a Coke!” I shouted out at him as he got to the door turning round to say something. “It’s cheaper to get a meal then a burger on its own.” I shot him my best innocent smile as he walked out.
I heard mumbling outside of the door and I knew it was Gerard filling Frank in on the results of his check. “I know you don’t wanna hear this mate but you need to get her help. She flinched when I touched it. No I don’t think it hurt, I think she’s scared, she trusts you and that’s why she hasn’t flinched around you.” I tried to listen to what Frank responded but he was either talking super quietly or he wasn’t talking out loud at all. “I didn’t smell a trace of him on her either so that’s some good news right?” Gerard finally spoke again. I decided I’d had enough of hearing the one sided conversation and thought I would try one of the techniques Gerard told me about. I quickly got comfortable and closed my eyes thinking about the underwear he caught me looking at yesterday, it was black lace with navy blue bows that were the ties on the front of the bra and the side of the panties. I thought hard about much Frank would enjoy it and I’d just got up to him pinning me on the bed when I heard the door swing open.
“You can stop now. I’m here.” He spoke out as I opened one eye slowly to look at him smirking. There he was stood with; an annoyed look on his face, a tent pitching in his pants and a brown paper bag with the contents of my junk deal.
“Oh hey I was just thinking about you.” I shot him my best smile as he glared with a ‘sure’ and walking over holding the bag out to me. “Oh god I am so excited for this.” I snatched it off him before ripping open the bag to find the burger and fries. I quickly unwrapped the delicious bad stuff and scoffed it. I mean I literally face planted the thing I was that excited, I didn’t even notice him watching me with an amused look on his face. I finished in record time and wiped my mouth looking over at him. “What?” I asked puzzled as to why he was smiling like that at me.
“I’ve just never seen someone get that happy about a burger.” He laughed moving the brown bag that contained the empty packaging, producing a cup with the fizzy contents I’d been craving.
“Oh god I love you!” I shouted out reaching for the cup, instead realising what I said and freezing instantly to look at him.
“You want to pretend you was saying that to the coke? Because I’m pretty sure the coke loves you too.” He told me smiling as I relaxed at how smoothly he took it.
