Chapter 1

Frank pov

"You're different."

"You're special."

I'm sick and tired of hearing these sentences day after day. There is nothing special about me whatsoever, and i don't deserve to be in here. A few weeks ago, I went to my first doctors appointment EVER. I was absolutely dreading the trip, and the result from going, wasn't exactly the best either. Let me rephrase, it was the worst thing that happened to me.

*flashback*

I sat in the blue, leather chair that was in the waiting room, while my mom checked in with the secretary at the front desk of the office.

"Iero, Frank." She said, telling the secretary my name.

"Ah yes, he'll be in at about...ten thirty which I'd say is in about ten minutes." She says, handing my mom some papers which she fills out with all of my information, since they have literally no information other than my name.

My mom walks back over to where I'm sitting and finds a seat right next to me. She takes the pen and begins writing on the paper, writing out all that she knows and leaving the things like 'past doctor visits' out.

When she finishes with writing my information down, she takes out her phone and begins scrolling through Facebook and texting friends, while im sitting here, anxiety rising up in my stomach making me feel as if I'm about to puke or pass out. I try not to show my emotions though, im more of a quiet kid, not so much outgoing and definitely not popular. I'm the quiet music kid that brings his earbuds everywhere he goes and stays silent most of the time. I'm not bullied, no, I'm just ignored.

Sometimes I think being ignored is the worst thing that can happen. At least when you're getting bullied, someone is acknowledging your presence, but when no one notices you it can make you feel a whole lot worse. I'm not saying either option is good, because either way you end up making bad decisions based on your self esteem, but sometimes I wish that someone would maybe just acknowledge my presence.

"Frank." My mom says with an irritated look on her face and I look up and see a nurse in blue scrubs standing in the doorway with a impatient look on her face.

"Sorry." I mumble and then get up, following my mom to the room where the torture begins.

The nurse leads me and my mom to a blue room with rocket ship wallpaper lining the middle part of the walls. I look at it in disgust and my mom just judges my shoulder giving me a look. There's a bed looking thing sitting in the middle of the room and I jump up to sit on it.

"So Frank." The doctor says, as she sits down and turns on her computer.

"I'm going to ask you some questions and you're going to answer them. Don't worry they're very easy questions." She says, giving me a sickeningly sweet smile.

"Ok." I mumble, shoving me hands into the pockets of my sweatshirt.

"So, is your eating normal? Do you eat three full meals a day?"

"Yes."

"What about physical activity? Do you get at least sixty minutes a day?" I chuckle a little bit at this question.

"No."

"Frank, that is very important, you need to be getting exercise." She says, a serious look on her face. I roll my eyes and she moves on to the next question.

"Do you get at least nine hours of sleep every night?"

No because I'm up on my phone until three am every morning.

"Yes." I lie.

"Good and do you smoke or have you ever consumed alcohol?"

I gulp a begin to sweat a little when she asks this question. This one i can't lie about because the doctor will figure out eventually, but the thing is my mom doesn't know.

"Um.." I say and I can tell she knows I'm nervous.

"I'm taking that as a yes." She says, and my mom has a look of shock on her face. If only she knew that what was coming later would completely take her mind off of the fact that I smoke and more than occasionally drink beer.

"Ok, well now we need to do some tests. We're going to do a blood test and then listen to your heartbeat and check your eyes," She says, and pulls out a stethoscope. "Ok I'm going to listen to your heartbeat." She puts the cool metal circle on my heart and I breathe in and out carefully.

"Well, I'm happy to say that your breathing is fine. I'm going to check your eyes and then we'll have a blood test and then you can come back next year or sooner if you need to." She says smiling and taking out a device with a light on the end. She walks over to the light and turns it off before waking over to me and taking the device and shining it in my eyes. I have an urge to blink, but I don't want to make her have to start over. The light burns my eyes and it feels like I've kept them open for forever. Finally, she finishes after what seems like forever.

"Your eyes look very good," She compliments. "Are you ready for the blood test?" I nod and my stomach begins to churn. I stand up and follow the nurse into a separate room, leaving my mom in the other room.
This time the room has gray walls and another seat in the middle of the room.

"Take a seat, this won't take very long." She says, and walks over to the cabinets, taking out a needle. She brings it over to my arm and I can see the needle being filled up with blood. I begin to feel woozy at the sight of my blood being held in a syringe.

"It's alright, just stay sitting down for a minute." She says, when she sees my fatigue. I stay sat down and take quick breaths, trying my best not to pass out.

When my dizziness is finally gone, I stand up and she leads me back to the room where my mom is in.
"We'll have the results in a few minutes." She says and leaves the room.

******

"Come in." I say when I hear a knock on the door.

"Ah yes Mr. Iero," A voice says and I can tell it's now a male. "I've been told there was something issuing your blood test." He says and I begin to get nervous.

"And..what would that be..?" I ask nervously.

"Well," He begins. "You have a type of blood that we have never seen before in any other human. We'd like to see if it's in any other humans and we just don't know about it yet, or if you are truly the only one." He says.

"Um.." I say and can feel the words not coming out.

"I suggest you pack your bags now." He tells me.

"Wait..why?"

"You're going to be tested on."
