I need to ask you a favour
Chapter 3
Gerard's apartment was the one directly opposite mine, but our two buildings were separated by a small road. Our whole street is made up of identical flats, each with two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room and kitchen. I had to admit, they were a nice place to live. I'd only seen inside of Gerard's apartment a few times, and even then only the hallway when we happened to leave at the same time, or I was bringing round some wrongly delivered mail. That wasn't really much to go off.
It occurred to me as I was getting ready for the night ahead, that I didn't really know much about Gerard. Hell, I didn't even know his last name. Maybe this was a mad idea. It could easily turn into a night I would regret- my acting skills had never really been strong and what if his grandparents figured out we are lying? That wouldn't be fun. Last minute nerves started to form as I took a long look in the mirror. I was wearing an old suit, that was just old enough to look casual, yet presentable. I wanted to make a good impression on my, albeit fake, new inlaws. But to be honest I wasn't sure if that was going to happen. Gerard's grandparents seemed like fairly judgemental people- if he had to make up lies just so they'd leave him alone. I wasn't sure that me, with the neck tattoo and facial piercings, was really going to help his situation. Sighing, I slid out my lip ring and pulled up the collar on my shirt, trying to seem more genetically presentable. There wasn't really much I could do about the shaved, bleached side of my hair, or the nose ring, but you win some you lose some I guess. I took one last glance at myself before grabbing the essentials and leaving my flat, locking the door behind me. It was only 7:30 but I figured that the more time we spent together before his grandparents arrived, the better. I needed to know more about Gerard for this to be believable. I found myself darting across the road as rain continued to fall from the sky and thinking to myself that the tables have turned since this morning as I knocked on Gerard's front door, like he had done at mine this morning.
