The Insiders

In Which We Discover That Leigh Hates People

Leigh Evans is not a "people person." Sure if you come up and talk to her she'll probably respond, maybe even (if your lucky) carry on a small conversation. But if you want to be friends you have another thing coming. And BOYFRIEND? Sorry, dude, looks like you're out of luck.
Did she used to be a people person? Sure she did, long ago, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and seventh grade hasn't happened, aka The Year Leigh Lost Faith In Humanity. But that's over and done; so long and goodnight. Now, it was time to begin junior year, and carry on the long tradition of avoiding human interaction and sitting on the ledge by the window and observing.
Observing was fun; you could make fun of stupid people and their stupid highschool problems without getting involved in their stupid highschool drama. It was a win-win situation. Leigh wondered how many boys Courtney (the resident bitch) would burn through this year. She was betting seven.

"WE'RE MOVING?!?!" Leigh stood in front of her mom and younger brother, Ryan, shocked.
"You knew I had been considering it since dad... left." Touchy subject.
"Yeah, but you could have let us know AT LEAST a month in advance AND NOT TWO DAYS BEFORE THE MOVING TRUCKS SHOWED UP!" Leigh frowned. Honestly, she didn't really mind moving. She just didn't want to have to pack up all of her stuff and she would have liked a little time for mental preparation.
Her mom sighed.
"Look, it was a very last minute thing. The house was just lovely and I knew I had to have it."
Leigh frowned at looked at Ryan for support. He just shrugged his shoulders and tapped away at his phone, probably playing something stupid like Flappy Bird. No help there.
"Honey, I know it's a shock, but you've got to help me out this once. Ever since the... incedent it just hasn't felt right here for any of us, and you know it," her mom pleaded with her. Leigh sighed in resignation and started up the stairs to her room.
"Then I guess I'd better get packing"
***
The door creaked open as Leigh entered her new room hesitantly. This was weird. No, this was beyond weird. She read about moving in fanfiction and assumed it was no big de, but this was the real thing. Her small, comfy home back in PA was gone, and now here she was stuck in stupid, stinky Belleville, New Jersey. Not her first choice for moving.
Her new room was decent sized, though maybe a bit smaller than her old one. The walls were a shade of dusty pink. Leigh crinkled her nose in distaste. That was change soon enough though. Soon, the walls would be unreconizabke underneath all of the Doctor Who, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day posters.
She smiled in spite of herself as she unpacked her things; band merch always cheered her up. She cranked up blink-182's "First Date" on her iPod.
Maybe this year wouldn't be so bad, after all.
