Save Yourself

The Midnight Sun

Nana had organized a dinner a dinner party at her house to make Gerard feel more at home and so he can meet some of the other people. Gerard looked around the room at all the unfamiliar faces until his eyes fell on Rae. He never noticed before how beautiful she was. Her deep red hair was radiant and her piercing blue eyes could look into your soul. Her skin was flawless. Where she stood across the room from him, he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. She was dressed in a midnight blue off the shoulder dress that brought out the color of her eyes. He was distracted from his thoughts when he suddenly noticed Frank running in his direction.
“Slow down!” he exclaimed, stopping the teen. “Where are you going?”
Frank immediately hid behind Gerard.
“I need to hide,” he said, slightly out of breath.
“From?” Gerard asked, eyebrow cocked.
“Them!” Frank stated, pointing in the direction of two young girls.
As Gerard processed the words, a smile started to from on his lips until finally he burst out laughing.
“Let me guess, you dated both of them at the same time?”
Frank smiled guiltily.
“You little asshole,” Gerard chuckled, looking in the direction of the girls.
They were both pretty. One was short, about 5’1, with long, straight, dirty blonde hair and sea green eyes. She had a curvy build and was slightly pale. The other girl was tall, about 5’9, and also had a curvy build. She had short blonde hair with red streaks.
“As you can see, they’re both really beautiful and they’re great girls as well. I was lucky that they both liked me, but it resulted in me being unable to choose. I thought I could handle it and for the first couple of weeks it was actually going great…” he trailed off. “They somehow found out that I was dating both of them and now they want my blood.”
“Well, you deserve it. If you can give it you can take it. You’ll just have to face the consequences,” Gerard told him.
“Not if I can help it,” the teen stated, hurrying off in another direction.
He barely disappeared when the two girls stood in front of Gerard.
“Hello, ladies,” he greeted them with a smile.
Both girls flushed slightly, giggling nervously.
“You’re the new arrival?” the tall girl asked.
“Yeah, I’m Gerard.”
“I’m Erin,” she introduced herself. “This is Alex.”
“You live here with Nana, right?” the short girl he now knew as Alex asked.
“I do,” he said, still smiling.
“Then you know Frank?” she checked.
“I’m staying out of it,” Gerard stated, turning around.
“We just want to know where the little shit is,” Erin stated. “You’ll be an anonymous tip-off.”
Gerard had to laugh at her words.
“I’m sorry, I really don’t know where he is,” he told them.

Rae watched from across the room as the two girls advanced on Gerard. She knew them well, especially Erin since she had helped her settle in. The two girls were best friends and both just happened to like Frank. Right now though, they were getting on the red head’s nerves and she decided to interrupt their little conversation.
“Please Gerard,” she heard Alex beg as she neared the threesome.
“Hey!” Rae greeted them, forcing a smile in the girls’ direction.
“Rae!” Gerard exclaimed, surprised at her sudden appearance, but also relieved that she had come to rescue him.
“Are you ready to go?” she asked Gerard, turning her back on the other two.
“Go where? It’s after dark,” he pointed out a little confused.
“Yes, well, I know I told you that Una doesn’t have a moon or stars, but that’s only half true. We do have a moon, sort of. It only shines once every three months and… well, it’s blue,” she explained.
“But what difference does it make? What about the Rebellions?” he wanted to know.
“They don’t come out when the moon’s in the sky,” she informed him. “We don’t know why that is, but it’s a fact. There’s always a hell of a celebration when the moon’s out.” Rae then turned back to the girls, “Excuse us, girls.”

It was unlike anything Gerard has ever seen. The streets were filled with people. The street was one massive flea market. Stalls were set up everywhere and people were buying trinkets and even furniture. Children were running around and laughing happily. Fireworks lit up the night sky and in the far off distance you could see a blue orb floating in the sky.
“Amazing, isn’t it?” Rae shouted over the noise.
His mouth hung open in awe at everything. He simply nodded in response, unable to put it into words. Rae laughed happily before being dragged off with a dancing parade. Gerard stared after her in amusement. Everybody dancing suddenly reminded him of his sister. She always loved dancing and she was exceptionally good at it too.
“Come on!” a girl with dark red hair, brown eyes, a curvy build and a height of 5’3 urged, pulling him into the parade.
The girl danced and twirled, obviously giving her heart to it all. It was amazing to witness. Gerard fought his way forward through the crowds of people in search of Rae. The street was terribly overcrowded and he decided to get away for some fresh air. When he reached the end of the street, he noticed that it ended at a field. Walking slowly through the long grass, he saw a huddled figure a few feet away and eventually decided to approach the person. The person had her knees brought up under her chin, her arms wrapped around them and she was staring up into the sky.
“Do you mind if I join you?” he asked, breaking the silence.
Rae looked up at him in surprise.
“Uhm… yeah, sure.”
He took a seat next to her on the soft grass. She barely paid attention to him as her eyes stayed fixated on the moon.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” she stated.
He stared up at the blue orb and was stunned by what he saw. Even though the blue orb was high up in the sky, he could clearly see what looked like small flames jumping from it.
“Gerard,” Rae’s quiet voice pulled him out of his trance. “What’s it like on earth?”
“Earth? It’s… Don’t you remember it?” he asked, when he couldn’t immediately formulate the words.
She shook her head, “No, I never knew it.”
“What do you mean?” he asked confused.
Rae looked up at him, her blue eyes locking on his hazel pools.
“I was a stillborn,” she explained. “I never knew a mother or a family. I never knew earth. Nana found me nineteen years ago when she was on her way to work. I’ve been living with her ever since. She raised me. She’s the only mother I ever knew. I always ask everyone what earth is like, because it intrigues me. Everyone has a different opinion and it seems to me like earth has endless possibilities.”
“It does,” he nodded, stunned by her revelation.
His heart suddenly went out to her. It must be terrible to not have anything or anyone.
“That’s why I don’t understand everything everyone else goes through when they first come here, because I never experienced it myself. I don’t remember it,” she said.
Gerard wrapped an arm around her and she rested her head on his shoulder.
“Earth isn’t always that great,” he started telling her. “Actually, it is great. You can be whatever you want to be, but sometimes people get so lost in their desires that they forget what’s really important.”
Rae sighed contently, closing her eyes.
“I just wish I knew my mother,” she breathed.
They sat in silence just staring up at the moon. It was a cool night and a light breeze was blowing, rustling the leaves of a lonely tree nearby. A sudden scream tore through the stillness of the night and they both sat up to see what was going on.
“Noo! Stay away from me!” Frank shouted, running for all he was worth. “Shit happens! You weren’t supposed to find out about each other!” he called over his shoulder at the two girls short on his heels.
Gerard and Rae’s eyes grew wide in amusement at the sight in front of them.
“Get back here, Frank Iero!” Alex called.
“We not finding out about each other still wouldn’t have justified what you did!” Erin yelled after him as well.
Seconds later, the two girls tackled him to the ground. It was the funniest thing Gerard has ever seen in both his lives. A guy being taken down by two girls. It was beyond epic and he burst out into a fit of laughter.
“Aaahhh!! NO! Let go of me!” Frank shouted a little hysterically. “What are you… no, wait! Don’t do that! Erin! Alex, oh, fuck!”
The two on the grass rolled around laughing hysterically.
“Oh, please… come on!!!” Frank’s desperate pleading could be heard for almost miles around. “I’m sorry! Okay? I’m sorry…Just, no! Stop... Awww…”
“Suits him right,” Rae told Gerard quietly, trying to suppress her laughter.
“It does,” he agreed, barely able to breath. “Do you think we should go help him?”
“Nah, let him suffer,” she chuckled.
“Heeeellpppp!!!!” Frank’s screams kept ringing through the field.

Hey, okay, so, depending on interest, there is a sequel to the story. It's not quite on par with this one, but it explains what happened to Mikey. If not, then all you have to know is that he's fine.
Thanks again for reading!
xoxo
