The Drums of the City Rain

Chapter 9

I awoke to the bright, warm sunlight. Gerard was still holding me tight in his arms. All of last night confused me. Why? What did I do to deserve to be in Gerard Way's house, trapped in his arms? Comforted by his warmth, listening to his soft breathing as his chest would gently rise and fall? What were we really? What was I to him? I kept thinking these thoughts as I drifted off to sleep.

I awoke again, all rolled up in blankets. I instantly realized the loss of Gerard's embrace. I sat up.
"Gerard?"
"Right here!" He called from the kitchen.
I wandered into the kitchen to find Gerard making breakfast. I rubbed my face.
"Good morning, sleepyhead!"
"Mhm." I replied. "Mornin'."
"One waffle or two?" Gerard asked.
"Two, please," I replied.
"Okie-dokie."
"You okay, Gerard?" I laughed.
"Never better!" Gerard exclaimed as he leaned forward to give me a kiss on the forehead.
I rubbed the spot he kissed, blushing. I watched as Gerard finished making breakfast. He started singing softly to himself. God, his voice was beautiful. I stared at him. He looked dazzling. His sloppy hair and cute morning voice along with the way his face glowed... just beautiful.
"Whatchu starin' at?" Gerard asked.
"Something beautiful," I replied.
Gerard jokingly looked behind him and shrugged his shoulders.
"It's you, dipshit!" I giggled.
Gerard came over and gave me a hug. "Hmm, I love you."
I pulled back and stared at him. "What?"
"Oh, I mean... oops. That kinda slipped." Gerard explained.
"It's not that big a deal. Just tell me if that's really what you think about me."
"Well, err, yeah?" Gerard replied.
"Gerard, for real, what are we? What am I to you?" I finally asked that burning question.
"I really don't know." Gerard sighed.
"Well, I can't know unless you tell me," I told him.
"Frank?"
"Yeah?"
"Um... how would you like to be my boyfriend?" Gerard asked.
"Oh, Gerard, I would absolutely love that!" I accepted.
"Is that what we are now?" He asked.
"I suppose so," I replied.
"I don't think we should tell anybody until you're eighteen, though. Because um... it would be bad publicity and I could get in trouble," he trailed off.
"Okay," I replied.
"You sure you really want to do this, though?" Gerard asked.
"What kind of question is that?" I said in reply. "Of course, Gerard. I'm old enough to make my own decisions."
"But you're only seventeen," Gerard noted.
"And you're only twenty-two," I replied.
"Okay, fine. But still, don't tell anyone."
"I won't. Cross my heart," I said as I made a crossing motion with my hand over my heart.
Gerard nodded.
"Okay, shall we eat?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah, I'm starving!" I exaggerated.
"Well, come on, then," Gerard said as he carried two plates over to his dining room.
Okay, the dining room was stunning, as well. All walls were black except for one, which was painted red. On the opposite side of the red wall sat a clock with a thick red rim, hanging on a black wall. The table was dark brown polished wood, with a hint of red. I was sort of noticing a theme in Gerard Way's house: Lots and lots of black. Not that I had a problem with it. I actually liked black. Just an observation. Gerard sat down a plate of waffles with whipped cream and raspberries with syrup, and a side of bacon. I sat down and Gerard sat at the opposite side of me. He reached over and touched my hand. I gripped it and held his hand while I ate. Okay, I actually thought we were cute. My boyfriend. Gerard Way, my lovely boyfriend. Shit, I was still in disbelief. Every second I looked at him or felt his soft, warm hand in mine my heart skipped a beat. I guess you could say it skipped so many beats that it may as well have stopped beating. But it didn't. It beat just fine. Perfectly, even. More perfect than it ever did. My stomach fell fuzzy, and I knew at that moment that I wanted to be with him forever. That was the moment I fell in love with Gerard Way a thousand times and I knew I could fall in love with him a thousand times more. It was more possible than you would think. I exhaled after apparently holding my breath.
"You okay?" Gerard asked.
"I'm great, actually," I replied, closing my eyes an humming softly.
I had just finished my breakfast, and so did Gerard.
"Come on," Gerard said, letting go of my hand. I was actually slightly disappointed at the loss of his grip.
Gerard gathered up the dishes and I followed him as he went into the kitchen to put them in the sink. He then took my hand and pulled me into the living room. He let go of my hand and sat down on the couch, patting his leg, indicating that he wanted me to sit on his lap. As I did so, Gerard instantly wrapped his arms and legs around me and toppled over on the couch.
"You're mine," he declared.
"I know," I replied.

Notes

I actually think this is kinda cute.
