The Drums of the City Rain

Chapter 3

As my mom and I arrived home, I immediately slipped off my shoes and flopped down on the couch. My mom looked at me for a while before speaking.
"I'm going to run a few errands real quick."
"You want me to come with?" I asked.
"No, you really don't have to," she assured me.
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
"Kay," I stated quietly.
"Buh-bye!"
"Bye!"
I watched as my mom's car pulled out of the driveway. Shortly after, I retreated to my room. I ran up the stairs and opened my door. I was immediately greeted with my piece of art. Then I remembered. I quietly closed the door behind me and got back to work. I took only about two to three breaks in between, but other than that, I was pretty busy for the next few hours. I know it was taking a long time, but I wanted it to look perfect. And the fact that I wasn't artistic didn't help very much.
After a while, I sat back and admired my work. It wasn't really half bad. I was actually proud of myself.
"Done," I whispered to myself as I held up my "masterpiece." I stared for a whole minute or two at the portrait I had painted of Gerard Way.
Of course, I didn't want to get my hopes up. I'm not really that type of person. Nothing real great ever happened to me. I knew that millions of kids were taking part in this contest, so I didn't really have a chance to win. Therefore, I started searching for a place on my wall I could hang it if my entry is not picked. I eyed a spot right above my bed. 'There,' I thought. Perfect. So now I could get something out of this no matter what happens.
I dragged my laptop from my bedside and onto my bed, and pulled up the contest instruction page from earlier. Ok. I had to take a picture of it and send it via e-mail to the address enlisted on the bottom of the page. Easy enough. I grabbed my phone from my pocket. Holding it cautiously up to my painting, I pressed down on the screen and then heard the satisfying *Click!* of the camera, indicating that my photo had been taken successfully.
"Yes!" I mouthed.
I took another moment to look at the photo. It actually looked pretty good! I tapped on my email and uploaded the picture, ready for submission. I stared at the send button, and hesitated. I closed my eyes and swiftly tapped my screen. I opened them again. It was sent. I was done. I let out a sharp sigh. I did it all I had to do was wait.

Notes

Another short chapter! Just bear with me, guys. The interesting parts are coming up soon, and that's when the chapters will start to be more lengthy. I know it's kinda boring now, but I gotta build up a story line and just bring up a few key points. Trust me, it gets better. Please don't give up on reading this just yet! And since it's winter break for me, y'all can 'spect some more uploads from this gal! Okie, so thanks for reading! I do take constructive criticism, just keep in mind, that I am already intending to make these upcoming chapters more well written than the first ones. Comments, rates, and subscriptions are always very much accepted. <3
