The Drums of the City Rain

Chapter 14

A couple of months had passed and I still wasn't over him. I was on my laptop again, in an attempt to drown out thoughts of Gerard. I haven't even listened to a single song by Gerard, because I knew it would just remind me of him. And then I would be visited by more tears.
As I was doing my usual internet browsing, I had a magnificent idea. I was going to be eighteen in two days. A legal adult. Able to do things on my own. I grinned. I was going to fly back to California. After some searching, I found that I could schedule a flight for tomorrow. My mood was instantly boosted. I didn't want to get my hopes up, though. I scheduled my flight. I had everything in order. What could go wrong? All I had to do now was tell my mom. I ran down the stairs.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"Um..." This was going to be harder than I thought. "I uh... I might be leaving..."
"Oh. Well I kinda expected that," my mom said with a frown. "How soon?"
"Tomorrow?" I said, refusing to make eye contact with my mom.
"Oh. How long will you be gone?"
"I don't know exactly." I tried to make up an excuse, without not completely lying. "You see, I actually grew fond of California... and... I thought I might like to go back."
My mom looked down at the floor. "Okay."
I didn't know whether to be happy or sad. I ran back upstairs to pack the things that were important to me. My laptop, my phone, my earbuds, my two chargers, and of course some clothes. All I had to do now was wait.

I could barely sleep, knowing what was going to happen in the morning. But somehow, I managed to make it through the night. My flight left at two o'clock. It was around noon. I decided to pack a few more things. I didn't want to overdo it, though. In case Gerard didn't want me around. I wasted more time on the internet so two o'clock would roll around faster. It did. It was about one-thirty when I left the house. I said my goodbyes to my mother, and she said hers. I hopped in my car and booked it for the airport.

I finally made it to California. Butterflies filled my stomach as I hopped off the plane. As I left the airport, I realized that I had no form of transportation. I decided to just call a cab to get to Gerard's house. When I got there, I slowly made my way up the front steps and onto his porch. As I approached the door, I stopped, hesitating. I took a shaky breath before softly tapping on the door. After a few seconds or so, I heard the bittersweet sound of the door knob slowly turning. My stomach churned and turned sour. Did I really want to do this? It was already too late, anyway. The door creaked open, and I could see the pale face of Gerard. He had dark circles under his eyes and the expression of a sad puppy. I could tell he was crying. God, I hope Gerard Way wasn't crying over me. He cowered in the doorway. When he noticed it was me standing there, his face lit up. His lips curled up into a weak smile.
"Frankie?" he asked in a shaky voice. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you, Gee."
"Wh-why? Frankie, you can't be here," He tried to shut the door.
"My birthday's tomorrow. I'll be eighteen. I just had to come see you. My mom knows I'm in California, and she's fine with it. Just stop making things complicated, Gerard. I don't see why we just can't be together again!"
Gerard shot me a hesitant look. "You--you don't really love me-"
"Stop saying that, Gerard! Why do you think I came all this way? For nothing? Of course I love you! The question is, do you love me?"
"Y-yes?"
"Then why won't you let me in?"
Gerard paused for a second before finally opening the door with a shaky hand. As I walked inside, he pulled me into a tight hug. He picked me up and spun me around. He let out a soft laugh.
"God, Frankie, do you know how much I've missed you?"
"As much as I've been missing you?"
"More," Gerard said with a smirk.
His lips then collided with mine in the most passionate kiss I have ever experienced. He pushed me onto the couch as he continued to kiss me. He bit my lip as he pulled away.
"That was for all the months I've been missing you," he growled into my ear.
I wore a mischievous smile. "My birthdays tomorrow," I whispered seductively.
"Oh, yeah?"
"Yeah."
It was eight o'clock.
"Four more hours, then." Gerard pointed out. then it will be official.
"Mmm, can't wait."
