The Drums of the City Rain
Chapter 11
It was Sunday. This day, like the past two days, consisted of nothing but cuddles, kisses, pizza, laziness, happiness, and love. That is, until my sudden realization. It was Sunday. Sunday. I was supposed to go home tomorrow. My week with Gerard was coming to an end. And worst of all, my mom was coming back, so if I didn't come back, she would start to wonder. I walked into the kitchen where Gerard was making a snack.
"Gerard?" I started.
"Yeah, babe?" Gerard turned around and wrapped his arms around my waist.
Ugh, why did he have to make this so hard? I sucked in a deep breath. "Gee, today's Sunday."
"Oh, really? I thought it was still Saturday," Gerard joked.
I frowned. "No, Gee. I was supposed to spend one week with you. One. I met you on Monday. Tomorrow's Monday."
Gerard let go of me and took a step back. After a moment or two of contemplating Gerard spoke. "Well, you don't have anywhere to be," he explained.
"Yeah, but my mom will wonder where I am. It's been hard enough for her to know that her son was going to leave sooner or later, but I can't leave her sooner than she expected. I am still seventeen, you know."
Gerard sighed. "Well, you better pack," was all he said.
"Gerard," I started.
"I knew I'd be nothing but trouble for you," Gerard snapped. "See, I am a screw up."
"Stop it, Gee," I demanded.
"You really love your mom, don't you?" Gerard asked quietly."
"Yes, but I love you, too, Gee," I insisted.
"Don't call me Gee," Gerard mumbled.
"Why are you getting so emotional?" I raised my voice slightly.
"Because I'm scared!" Gerard shouted. I could see tears forming in his eyes. "I love you, Frank. But you're only a child! I have barely known you for a week!" he cried out. "I don't know what's wrong with me." His voice had begun to crack.
"Goddammit Gerard! Here, just let me call my mom. It's not that hard!" I shouted.
"Please don't yell at me," Gerard whispered.
"No, no, no, Gee, I didn't mean to yell," I comforted him. "I'm sorry."
Gerard sat up on the counter. "Frank, you're not the problem, anyway. I just let my feelings get in the way of your trip."
"Well, maybe I let my feelings get in the way, too," I replied suddenly.
"You're not the one who kissed me, though. And then asked to be my boyfriend," Gerard argued.
"But I wanted to!" I exclaimed.
Gerard looked at me. "What?"
"You heard me," I sassed.
"Do you still love me, Frank?" Gerard asked.
"Of course I do, you big dummy!" I said loudly.
Gerard exhaled sharply. "Will you come back when you're eighteen?" Gerard asked.
"I don't even want to leave anymore," I admitted.
"But you are still seventeen."
"Almost eighteen," I corrected him.
"Come here." Gerard hopped off of the counter and picked me up, carrying me into the living room. He threw me on the couch and hopped down beside me. "No matter what, I will always love you. Even if you leave. I don't care. You don't even have to love me back."
"But I do, Gee," I repeated. "How many times do I have to tell you before you get it through your thick skull?" I asked, while ruffling his hair.
Gerard laughed sadly.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm sorry,"
"Why are you sorry?"
"I dragged you into this. I'm sorry."
I kissed Gerard on the cheek. Gerard smiled at me. I snuggled into him and pressed my face into his neck.
"You didn't drag me into anything," I said with a muffled voice.
Gerard gently patted my back. "God, you're so cute," Gerard noted.
"I know," I giggled.
Gerard let out a breathy laugh and shook his head. I hugged him.
