Changes (Gerard Way Fan-Fiction)
An Announcement
I told the guys that I could hang out with them as soon as I found my phone and they answered that they would tell me when they all could meet up. Sadly, that doesn't happen too often because one of them always has something else to do.
It was my second week in Jersey and I was sitting in my art class. Happily, Mr. Way didn't make a big deal out of our first encounter, instead he just glared at me when I entered the classroom. When I gave him a cheeky smile as an answer he was about to say something but was cut off by a student who needed to ask something. The case was done after that.
Right then, we were practicing shading. We got some black and white scratches of a random face without any shades. Our task was to shade it with different pencils and out of different angels to find out what pencils are best for shading and just practicing doing it, really. Mr. Way kept walking around glancing over some works here and there but other than that, the room was silent.
I was torn out of my focus when suddenly the door to the hallway opened and revieled the headmaster in all his glorry. I've seen him once but only from a far. He was in his late fifties and wore jeans combined with a dress shirt that was tucked into his pants. "Mr. Way, I need to do an announcement." he said serious with a straight face. Mr. Way seemed surprised but nodded and remained in the back of the room where he currently was.
"Allright class please stop doing whatever you're doing right now and listen. This is important."he started and everybody, me included, put down their pencils. "I'm going to make it short and I won't argue with any of you." he said and I could swear that he was glancing at me and at Mr. Way, as well. "I have to announce that until tomorrow any kinds of piercings are forbidden at this school. The only exception being eyerings but only one per ear, everything that goes beyond that and is visible is not allowed. Also, haircolors that are not natural such as blue, green or what color ever are forbidden. You are allowed to dye your hair of course but either way you dye it in a natural colour or you cover it with a hat. In that case, hats in class are allowed from now on but only for those who need to cover their hair! Thank you." You could tell that he wasn't the one who made this new rules. He was reading them from a piece of paper in his hands and he hated saying those words. What was going on now? What's the point of this bullshit? I touched my lipring for a second feeling like the entire class was watching me. One boy in the front of the room was lifting his hand. "Yes?" the headmaster asked nodding in his direction. I guess he didn't know his name. "What about black hair dye?" he asked with a cheeky grin and pointed towards the back briefly. I looked at the direction he was pointing at and found Mr. Way standing there with a pissed expression on his face. "That has yet to be decided." the headmaster anwered without looking at the guy but at Mr. Way.
"Who made those rules?" Mr. Way suddenly asked, vomit dripping from every word that came out of his mouth. The entire class turned towards him. The headmaster looked down at the paper in his hand and back at Mr. Way, folded it and put it back into his back pocket. "I'd like to talk to you after this lesson Mr. Way. Meet me in my office." and with that he left.
You could cut the air with a knife, that's how thick the tension was lingering in the room. Nobody said something, everybody was staring at Mr. Way as if asking what to do next. Only after some seconds he noticed as well, the anger still present in his face. "Keep on going, guys. Lesson's not over, yet." he said and made his way over to his desk where he was desperately typing something on his laptop.
"Seems like you have to get rid of that lip ring." I voice came from next to me. Mica. I turned my head towards her, already tired of her shit. "Looks like it." I mumbled not wanting to let the conversation keep going. "You know, if you have to dye your black hair in some other colour I could help you. Blond would really suit you." she added. I gave her the best "what the fuck" look I could handle. I was about to gave her a snappy answer but was cut off by another voice: "Noone's going to go blone because of this rubbish, now go on shading, Mica." Mr. Way snapped voilently without looking away from the screen. Mica was caught off guard while I had a hard time holding back the laughter. Though, Mr. Way wasn't amused at all. Instead he shot Mica a death glare that I'm sure wasn't supposed to see.
The lesson was over far too soon for my liking. We had to hand our works back, with our names on the back of course. Some students just wouldn't get it... . I was again one of the last people leaving the classe because I only had some more shading to do before the face was done. This one was my best, I thought. I hurridly wrote my name down on the back of it and rushed to the front of the classe where Mr. Way was still sitting in front of his laptop, the frown on his face still present. I wanted to ask him about what just happened some minutes ago but I didn't know if I should. He seemed quiet upset about those rules so I decided it couldn't hurt to ask him about it because I sure as hell, was too. "Excuse me..." I began much more shy than the other times I talked to him. Maybe that was because he looked like he wanted to tear something into tiny little pieces. He looked at me, his head not moving one inch, only his eyes shifting towards my direction. "Was the headmaster serious? I mean, can he just do that?" I ask, kind of naive. Instead of answering Mr. Way let out a deep sight and rubbed his face with both of his hands in a desperate manor. "No idea. I'm going to talk to him about it now." he said while turning off his laptop and packing his things. I wanted to ask something else but I didn't quiet know what so I just stood there awkwardly, wathing him pack his things. "Anything else?" he asked, lifting one eyebrow. I shook my head briefly in order to pull myself together.
"I think this rules just upsets me. It's not right." I mumbled, getting ready to leave. "I agree completely." he answered which made me turn around again. I didn't think he would say anything else but he did. "This sucks. They tell us we have freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of fucking everything and then that? Something's really wrong with this country." he said, mostly to himself I think. I didn't know how to respond but then something came into my head. "I wonder who'd make such a law." I said lost in thoughts. "That's what I'm about to find out, I hope." he answered, a determent look on his face. With that he opened the door for me to exit the room which I did with him right behind me. I was about to make my way to my next lesson while he was locking the room but his voice made me stop once more: "I'm going to fight for our black hair." he said, a smirk reappearing on his face as he said it. I smiled too when I saw that he was smiling because it was a nice thing to hear. At least one person here was still in his mind. "Do your best, see you next week." I half yelled and once more made this awkward hand wave of mine. "See you next week." he answered and made this awkward hand wave of mi-. Wait? I turned around to make sure that my eyes weren't tricking me but he was on his way towards the headmasters office, allready.
Shaking my head out of confusion I finally made my way to my next class, being late because of Mr. Way, once more.

"So, you heard the headmasters announcement?" was the first thing I asked when I sat down by the usuall table with Bob, Ray and Mikey. "Yes and it sucks." Ray said. The usuall carefree and light tone in his voice was replaced by anger. "Even though I'm not affected, I still hate it. We're supposed to be able to decide what we want to look like by ourselves." he almost yelled which made me jump slightly. "Mr. Way almost got into a fight with the headmaster when he announced it." I said, nibbling on my so called food. Mikeys' head snapped up in a rush: "I'm sure he did." he mumbled. "Talking of the devil, you wanna come over this weekend?" he added, again this knowing smirk on his lips. "Okay, what's this smirk about every time I mention Mr. Way?" I asked determent. Ray and Bob were giggling like idiots, Mikey just kept smirking. "You like him?" he asked out of the blue which caught me off guard. "What?" I asked wide eyed. "He's my art teacher. He's cool somehow but..." I trailed off, having nothing else to add. Mikey nodd, the smirk not leaving his face. "This weeking at mine then?" he asked then. Now was my turn to nodd.
The rest of the break as well as the rest of the day went by quiet eventless. On my way out of the school I ran into Mikey again just like the first day we met. "We should stop running into each other." I said laughing, helping him getting up. At least, he hit the ground this time not me. "Agree."
"Your brother picks you up today?" I asked, not because I wanted to know but because I didn't want to walk on my own and Mum said it would be okay. Mikey mumbled something I couldn't quiet make out but finished with a rushed: "...can't bring you home, sorry.". Well, damn. "Aww, why not. I don't want to walk!" I whined but Mikey, for some reasons, were getting more stressed out by the second. "We need to rush to an other part of town. We're already late, I'm sorry." he finally said. Well, it sucked but I wasn't going to complain. The reason seemed solid, so it was alright. "Well, alright then." I said, still pouting. Just then about ten meters away a car honked which made us both look up to our right. I only saw the back of the car so I wasn't abel to see Mikeys brother but I didn't bother going over there, I was going to meet him that weekend anyway, so why should I. Mikey ran toward the car and waved me goodbye which I responded with my dorky handwave. "Such a Gee-thing to do!" he yelled before closing the cars door and driving off.

"You're not allowed to wear your lip ring...at school?" my Mum asked in disbelief while we ate. Dad was at work just like most of the time since we were here. "Exactly. Mr. Way got all furrious when he heard that. I got, too." I said, putting a folk of potatos into my mouth. "And we're not allowed to dye our hair in 'unnarutal' colours. They even want to forbid black hair." I added. Only hearing it made the anger boil inside of me. "That's bullshit. They can't just to that. Nobody's going to follow these rules, it's nonsense." she said, just as furrious as I did.
"I wonder what Mr. Way will do. He's a teacher, he has to follow the rules..." I mumbled, mostly to myself but Mum heard anyway. Mr. Way without black hair just wasn't right. "If he's a good teacher he'll be a good rolemodel and keep his dignity. Because honestly, that's what they're taking from you next to your freedom."
I thought about what she said. She was right, I guess. Ray was right, as well. It's up to me what I look like and to noone else. Maybe I should just keep the lipring tomorrow just to see what will happen. "Should I keep the lipring for tomorrow?" I asked my Mum. She hesitated. Sure, she wanted me to stand my ground but on the other side, she was my Mum and wanted nothing but the best for me. And advise me to break the rules wasn't something she'd do. "I think this is for you to decide, sweetheart. If you do, be careful. When you get into trouble because of it, I'll be there for you, I promise." Well, her point was clear even though she didn't said it directly. I should stand my ground. "Also, I wanted to hang out with Mikey, Bob and Ray at Mikeys. Is this allright?" I asked to change the topic towards something more comfortable. "Will you stay over the night?" she asked suspicious. I rolled my eyes playfully. "Mum, you just adviced me to break the schools' rule and now you don't want me chill with my male friends? Really?" I asked, laughing slightly. "No, I just don't want you to stay over night." she just said and continued eating. Rolling my eyes again, I answered: "Fine."
After putting my plate into the sink and helping my Mum cleaning up, I made my way back upstairs, my phone already attached to my hand:
Ty: I can hang out with you guys. Just can't stay over night. Mums...:D
Some minutes passt but then I finally received an answer
Mikey: No problem, Gee can just bring you home later. He can't wait to meet you xD
Ty: Okay? cu tomorrow :)
Mikey: C ya :)
Tomorrow couldn't come fast enough. I went to bed early that day because I wanted it to get over as soon as possible. Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep, not even knowing what time it was.
Just started to read this. It's good. I hope to see more chapters.
