Hesitant Alien
Chapter 1
Frank POV
I kick my flat's door, frustrated. It's 5am, I couldn't sleep, decided to take a walk and motherfucking locked myself out. Now I have to waste fuck knows how many hours until Ray wakes up, sees my text and brings me my spare keys. I storm out the building and along the street cursing under my breath. I'm not sure where I'm going and if somewhere along my way to nowhere I end up under a truck I won't be that disappointed.
After a while I reach the woods on the edge of town, I must of walked at least a mile but that doesn't stop me. I stomp through the undergrowth, almost satisfied by the number of sticks snapping underfoot. My hoods up and I'm acting like a fucking 13 year old. Eventually I run out of energy and lean against a tree, my fists clenched, breathing heavily. I'm fucking pissed off. I'm pissed off that my parents hate me, I'm pissed off that I'm failing senior year, I'm pissed off that I feel this shit, I'm pissed off that I forgot my keys, I'm pissed off that I can't seem to control my own fucking emotions, I'm pissed off that I can't fucking sleep like every other person on this shitty planet, I'm pissed off at every fucking thing. I let out a growl before kicking the tree behind me with all the force I can muster. I hear a terrified squeak and my heart stops. Holy shit did I just hurt a poor defenceless animal? I freeze and listen closely with baited breath. From the ground just behind me, I can hear shaky sobbing. Human sobbing. All my anger melts away, replaced with worry, curiosity and empathy. I take a step and look round and spot a tiny figure dressed head to foot in black, curled in a ball in the undergrowth facing away from me.
"Hey" I murmur. They freeze dead still, holding their breath "What's up?"
No reply.
"It's okay" I try to reassure.
Still nothing.
I crouch down next to them, their face still hidden, nothing but a quaking ball of black visible. If anything their breathing quickens at the movement. I slowly reach forward to rub their shoulder, an attempt at comfort but as soon as I make contact they instantly spring up into a crouched position. I get a glimpse of their face for the first time and let out a shriek, causing them to shoot behind a tree. Holy shit that was not human sobbing. I'm filled with terror and bolt in the opposite direction onto the path. I lean against another tree and breathe heavily trying to piece together what the fuck just happened. They- It- Fuck knows can't be human. It must be an alien or a mutant or something. No human can move that fast. Am I fucking tripping? It's hair was shoulder length, black with teal roots, almost like teal is it's natural colour. It's skin was tinted a lime green, not noticeably bright though, like only a bit more intense than the colour you go when you're about to puke. It's lips were a gross shade of green, brussel sprout green, actual puke green. And it's eyes were like a snakes, bright green, poisonous. Fucking terrifying. My heart races at the image and I wonder why the hell I stopped running. I'm rooted to the spot though now, frozen in fear. The entire forest is silent except for it's rapid breathing. And then it hits me. This being is clearly in so much distress and I'm stood terrified calling them an 'it', thinking of them like I scraped them off my shoe. Hell I treat spiders better than this. Goddammit Frank get your shit together and fucking help them.
"Fuck" I hiss under my breath, trying to compose myself. My heart pounds and I think I'm about to throw up but I take my pussy ass back off the path, back in their direction. What if the crying was just an act to lure me in? Make me feel safe then pounce? But surely with those reflexes, when I tried to touch them they could of just grabbed my wrist and attacked me? The jumped away, surely they can't mean any harm. I cautiously poke my head out from behind a tree and look around. I can't see them. Suddenly I spot a shimmer of green poking out from behind a tree trunk. A bright green eye. Every bone in my body wants to run but I try and keep it cool. They're about 3metres away and we lock eyes, staring eachother out. Their expression gives away nothing and mine is probably a complete mess giving away everything. Their lips are more of an emerald green, not puke green. And their eyes are oddly intriguing. Slowly my fear dissipates as time goes on, if they were gonna attack they would have by now. However gradually they begin to look more and more uncomfortable until after a few minutes, I can clearly see a single tear roll down their cheek. I feel a pang in my chest and slowly step out from behind the tree.
"I'm not going to hurt you" I murmur, still in shock from this entire situation. Softly, I take another step forward. Suddenly, the creature pulls out a round metal ball, clutches it with a shaking hand and points it at me. I gulp.
"W-what's that?" I ask.
They frown slightly before making a point of looking at me then the ball, I follow their eyes and look at it too. They point it at the ground a few metres away and squeeze it. I scream as a bolt of lightning shoots from it, incinerating a patch of the forest floor. I begin shaking, holy shit that was terrifying. They look down at it and look back up at me as if to say 'that'll be you soon'.
"I-I'm n-not gonna hurt you I-I fuck I want to h-help you, I don't even have a-anything to hurt you with uh s-see" I gabble, turning my pockets inside out, dropping my phone to the floor and raising my hands.
They drop their hand, still holding onto the weapon but not pointing it at me. I can see nothing but terror written across their face, this isn't aggression, this is defense.
"Shh, I promise you, I'm not going to hurt you. It's okay" I keep talking, I doubt they even talk let alone know English but hopefully it'll somehow relax them.
"Do you know English? Nod if you do" I tell them, nodding to demonstrate.
They frown slightly as if they only partly understand.
"Do you know the language I'm talking now?" I press. To my surprise they nod slightly and I feel a wave of slight relief.
"Good. So you've understood everything I've said so far?"
They nod again.
"Okay, then you should understand when I say I swear to fucking God I won't hurt you. Please come closer or talk to me if you can, I want to help you. Listen dude, I don't know who you are or where the fuck you're from but there is no way I could hurt you. I mean I'm an asshole sometimes but I'm also that annoying person who spends 10 years trying to get a bug out their house instead of just treading on it, I'm vegan, so I don't eat anything living or anything that came from something living so not meat or eggs or anything, and I'm sounding so anal right now but I could never ever harm or kill another being, please believe me when I say that" I rant, praying they understand.
Slowly they step out from behind the tree, their eyes fixated on mine. I offer a tiny encouraging smile as the tiptoe closer. After a few moments, they're stood directly in front of me, almost uncomfortably. To my surprise, they blow softly on my collarbone and I involuntary giggle and jump back at the sensation. They step back too and I notice their cheeks flush apple. Are they blushing?
"What was that about?" I ask nervously. They whisper a foreign word that I don't catch but I feel oddly happy that they spoke.
"What?" I question.
"D-do you not flyta here?" they ask under their breath.
"No I don't think so, what is it?" I reply.
"A sign of trust or affection, I'm not sure how to explain" they explain, barely audible.
"Okay" I reply. It makes sense. I think. I take a risk and 'flyta' back. The corner of one side of their mouth turns up slightly and I can't not smile "Do you wanna sit and chat?"
"Yes" they reply and we sit on the floor next to the patch where he shot that motherfucking lightening bolt, leaning against an oak tree.
Neither of us speak for few moments as I frantically try to think of something to say. Not sure if the usual ice breakers work when you're talking to a hesitant alien.
"Who are you?" they pipe up, surprising me.
"Frank Iero" I reply.
"What does that mean?"
"Um it's my name"
"Sorry. Hello Frank Iero"
"Call me just Frank"
"Okay just Frank"
I giggle, unsure whether they're joking.
"Did you just make a dad joke?" I laugh.
"What's a dad joke?" they question.
"Nevermind. Where are you from? Who are you? Why were you crying in a forest at 5am?"
"Uh, I'm a pyramydling. And my parents put me on this mission to be one of the first to move our race to 280415 because in 10demies lylem will collide with pyramyd and wipe out everything but we want to integrate here because you have oxygen and water too and we're a parallel species, we evolved the same but also opposite but that means we're compatible but the reason I was crying is because it didn't really go to plan"
"What's pyramyd? and lylem? and 10demies? and that bunch of numbers?" I question.
"Pyramyd is my home planet, lylem is a planet nearby which is due to collide, a demy is like a measurement of time"
"And the numbers?"
"280415?"
"yeah"
"that's here like this planet"
"what earth?"
"what's earth?"
"our name for this place"
"oh okay"
"So what went wrong?"
They don’t reply but tense at the question, I’d imagine the memory is quite traumatic.
“Who are you, anyway” I ask, changing the subject.
“Uh the name I was assigned is Gerard Way, here read this” they reach over to their bag and pull out a piece of paper. It’s weird, yellow but like soft silk, the same material as a spiders web or cocoon.

I scan through the page of information on this being, most of it meaningless to me.
“So should I call you Gerard?” I ask.
“Yeah, that’s what I’ve been called for the past 40demys”
“And he pronouns?”
“I don’t really care, gender is messed up”
“Okay, how though?”
“They colour code you based on your pleasure organs, and you throw parties over finding out what pleasure organs your children have, even though they’re too young to form thoughts and work out whether the strict rules they have enforced on them are right for them”
It does sound weird when you put it like that.
“I see you’re point, do you want me to use they pronouns?”
“No, ‘he’ is what I’ve been using this whole time and it doesn’t matter because the concept of gender is completely meaningless to me”
“Okay, got ya”
We spend the next 4 hours talking until 10am when my phone rings and Ray arranges to give me my keys. I’m yet to work out how to explain the fact I’m bringing home an alien.
