Miss

Chapter One: A Faulty Brain

Efficacy was an imperative trait to Bandit. She felt that to do something wrong was equivalent to not do at all. When failure-stricken, she often had to look back at her past successes to remain positive and productive. However, this plan of action hadn't proven to be of much use to her for quite some time. In fact, it had been roughly two years since she had been what most would call a child prodigy. She had made top marks in class, her final grades never scraping "B territory", she had played the lead in her school play of "West Side Story", following her father's footsteps, she was the assistant editor in her publications unit, and she played flute in the highly sought after District Band and County Band to boot, even as a mere freshman. She had the world going for her.

Then, as the precious few last days of her freshmen year began to dwindle, she noticed herself becoming less motivated, more distracted, irritable, and less inclined to work on her drawing and writing skills. She felt like she was in a fog of decaying mental capacity. Her grades however, didn't fall due to the fact that she had already been studying for her finals for weeks in advance, proving the material to be second nature to her. She retained most of her previously acquired information, but any new bits of thought-provoking information had the tendency to abruptly pass through her mind without just cause. All the poor girl could think of in her downtime was why her past brilliant cognitive abilities had gone down the drain without so much as an apology letter, excusing itself for its unfair behavior. Like a bad break up, of which she had never experienced, the event left her feeling inadequate and alone.

So, she knew what she had to do. Instead of ducking the problematic situation she was in, allowing it to fester and eat a hole in her heart, telling no one of her troubles, she figured it best to confide in her parents
