Mr. Way - Frerard

Chapter Twenty Two

I can't believe I snapped at Frank. Jesus. It was like kicking a puppy - no, worse than that. I'd kick a thousand puppies before I ever snapped at Frank again.

I was standing at my desk, my head bowed and my palms flat against the wood. Frank would be here any second, unless he'd decided he didn't want me any more, which would be understandable.

I didn't hear him approach, but he signalled his arrival by hugging me from behind and kissing my cheek.

"I'm so sorry, Frank," I whispered.

"It's okay, Gee. Forgot about it, there's no harm done. Everybody has those days," he reassured me. It made me feel so much worse. I wanted him to argue with me, tell me I shouldn't have done it.

I turned to face him. "But Frank-" I was silenced by him pressing his lips to mine, and I forgot about everything in an instant.

I couldn't distinguish my moans from his and I was separated from reality. I was brought back when Frank's hand gripped my ass and I melted into a puddle on the floor. It took the strongest willpower I could manage to pull away and say, "I'm going to be late for Bandit."

He didn't roll his eyes, or complain, but nodded understandingly. That was one of the things I loved about Frank. He never made you feel bad that you had responsibilities, never forced you to make him a priority when it wasn't possible.

"You could come with me if you wanted," I offered.

He agreed and we drove to the elementary school in a comfortable silence. We entered the school together, and soon saw Bandit with some other girls that seemed to be the friends she'd made. Glitter was smeared across her cheeks, and even seemed to be in her hair.

I groaned, but when Frank failed to stifle a chuckle, I burst out laughing with him. "B, what happened?" I asked her. She giggled as a reply.

Her teacher approached us. "Hi, you're Bandit's father, right?" I nodded. She turned to Frank. "And you must be...?"

Bandit piped up, "That's Frank, he's daddy's boyfriend."

I choked. "No, no, we're just friends," Frank protested.

The teacher laughed, luckily finding the situation amusing rather than concerning.

We left the school with Bandit. "B, Frank and I are just friends," I explained to her once we were in the car and on our way home.

"But I saw you holding hands," she said, confusion etched upon her small features.

"That's just what best friends do," Frank told her.

"Oh. Okay," she accepted this and moved on.

We got home and I sent Bandit to watch TV whilst I ran water for her bath. I turned to Frank, who was leaning against the open door with his arms folded. I placed my hand upon his smooth cheek.

"We have to be more careful, keep our guard up more," I said quietly. He nodded, his eyes locked onto mine. "We can't slip up like this again," I whispered.

"I wish we could be a normal couple," he said, his tone dripping with sadness.

"I know baby, I know." I pressed my lips to his lightly.
