Danger Days: Hold on Tight... And Don't Look Back!!
Look Alive, Sunshine!
Hot. Hot, and sandy, and dirty. That was how you describe the setting of this tale. Battery City, California. Once a nice place worthy of a middle class neighborhood, now a nearly empty desert. Aside from the tumble weeds, and the cacti, and the occasional skeleton with an old jacket, it looked like they died in the middle of a parade. This place was nearly uninhabitable by anyone, that of course aside from the infamous Fabulous Killjoys, and anyone who wanted to follow in the footsteps of those gritty, dirty, bold heroes of this new age. No one who listened to the new government agreed that they were heroes but if you weren't brainwashed, they were your best shot to follow as role models.
To be a Killjoy, and fight back against the new world order as of 2019, there was but one rule. Be yourself.
Killjoys were rebellions, they did not conform to a life of black in white as provided by their arch enemies, Better Living Industries. They wore whom they were proud and loud!
As the sun rises on a new day, awakes the role models of many misunderstood teens across the desert that once was Battery City.
First to yawn and stretch out on his bed was their leader, Party Poison. His bright pink hair was always a mess and he didn't even care to comb it down that morning.
“Wake up, dumbass!” with a harsh kick his bed mate, Jet Star, was sent sprawling to the un-vacuumed floor below and his tangled mess of brown hair was thrown askew.
The impact of Jet Star’s fall woke Fun Ghoul with a jolt. “Huh!?” he snorted looking around confused.
“Sorry, Just waking up our pal,” Party Poison grinned and turned a knob on the small portable radio on the chipped window sill above his head.
“Look alive, Sunshine!” a deep voice came through the static.
Party Poison hopped up and started digging through his drawers for something to wear besides his much hated BL/Ind underwear.
With a loud voice suddenly filling the house Kobra Kid, Ghosted Revolver, and Girl finally woke up.
“109 in the sky but the pigs won't quit,” the voice continued through the radio, giving them a vague but accurate weather report, especially for being in the desert near factories and all.
Ghosted Revolver yanked open the curtains flooding the main room with golden sunlight. For a moment they relished in the warmth, until it suddenly got too hot and she shut the curtains with haste.
“Ugh,” Jet Star groaned rubbing his sore head and joining Party Poison in picking out clothes.
“You're here with me: Dr. Death Defying…” the radio continued with a normal sort of good morning.
Girl came out of her and Ghosted Revolver’s room rubbing her eyes and yawning.
“Good morning Uncle Party,” she yawned again.
Party Poison smiled proudly with the same face he got every time she called him that and he would proclaim ‘I’m the coolest uncle! Uncle Party! Everyone else go home!’
“I'll be your surgeon, your proctor, your helicopter! Pumpin' out the slaughtermatic sounds to keep you alive!” Dr. Death Defying charmed in again.
“Come on, get ready you lazy bums!” Party Poison coaxed Fun Ghoul out of his bed and pushed him towards where his clothes were folded on the counter “Let's hurry up and get breakfast! We’ve got things to do! People to kill! Chop chop!” he flopped Fun Ghoul down like a rag doll.
“Riiiiiight…” Kobra Kid and Ghosted Revolver mumbled and pulled on their own clothes.
Party Poison pulled on his favorite leather red and black jacket over his bland shirt and zipped the front. On the back was his sign, his identity as a Killjoy. Then he pulled his mask over his head and wore it pushed above his eyebrows, tucked his yellow laser gun in its holster and was out the door.
“Ugh slow down!” Ghosted Revolver complained while pulling her black patched vest and favorite goggles on.
Girl happily put on her helmet and followed Fun Ghoul and Ghosted Revolver out the door.
Jet Star finished adjusting his pants and grabbed his laser gun and dashed out the door leaving Kobra Kid to turn off the radio and lock the house.
Once all geared up in their dirty yellow car, Ghosted Revolver tuned in the same pirated radio station and it was like they hadn't missed a beat.
“A system failure for the masses, anti matter for the master plan! Louder than God's revolver and twice as shiny, This one's for all of you rock'n'rollers! All you crash queens and motor babies!”
The car sprung to life and the loud hum of the engine filled the air around them.
“Yahoo!” Party Poison hopped up and poked his head out the open window, his pink hair becoming even more tangled in the wind.
Despite the sand the car kicked up as it sped along, Party Poison, Ghosted Revolver, and Kobra kid were having the time of their lives hanging out the window like drunk teenagers.
Jet star drove along careful not to cut a corner too sharp so his pals did not fall out the window.
Suddenly Fun Ghoul chimed in with what Dr. Death Defying was saying over the static.
“Listen up!”
Jet Star, without skipping a beat continued with him “The future is bulletproof!”
“The aftermath is secondary!” Ghosted Revolver shouted ignoring the sand she inhaled to say it.
“It’s time to do it now! And do it loud!” Party Poison and Kobra Kid continued with the DJ.
“Killjoys! Make some noise!” Girl giggled loudly and poked her little head out of the moon roof over the car.
Before they could even get to the first line of the upcoming track on the radio they heard a shrilling deep scream for help.
Ghosted Revolver was sent flying to the ground when Jet Star slammed the brakes and came to a sudden stop.
“By god man! You're gonna kill her!” Kobra Kid smacked Jet Star upside the head and jumped out the window.
“I heard someone scream!” Jet Star protested and turned off the car.
Now only the sounds of nature surrounded them.
“I did too,” Party Poison jumped out his side and looked around “Did you hit someone again Jet?” he looked back at Jet Star a bit too serious to be joking.
“WE ARE IN THE DESERT MAN! I’D SEE IF I HIT SOMEONE! THAT ONE TIME POISON! ONE TIME!” Jet Star was offended by Party Poison’s accusations, and refused to take his shit even for a second.
“Ghoul, you stay with Girl, those pigs are always sniffing for truffles around these parts,” Party Poison commanded.
Any screams they heard had stopped now and not even birds chirped. This set Party Poison on edge, it was too quiet, when even birds would sing that meant Draculoids were nearby.
“Are you alright, Ghost?” Kobra Kid watched her dust her jeans and vest off.
“Well nothing's broken! I’ll be sore, but I think I’ll be alright!” she pulled her goggles down over her eyes. “He cracked my goggles…” she harshly mumbled.
There wasn't much to care deeply about in a world with few materialistic items, but anyone who knew Ghosted Revolver knew, you DO NOT mess with her goggles.
She started after Jet Star, her face almost matching the deep shade of magenta her hair was “I’m gonna kick your damn ass Jet!!” she picked up her speed and her dirty Chuck Taylor’s pounded the sandy ground sending some sand flying back.
“No don’t!” Kobra Kid pushed up his shield on his helmet and grabbed her and in a panic.
“Kobra is right we need to see where that scream was and where those Draculoids are, I know there here…” Party Poison flicked her cracked goggles “We’ll get those fixed for you later,”
Ghosted Revolver nodded and glared with fire at Jet Star.
The less fine sand crunched beneath their feet as the four of them crept in the direction they thought they’d heard a scream from.
“Get ready…” Party Poison cocked his gun and held it close. “Where are they…?” he mumbled and scanned the immediate area. In his vision he saw nothing but sand and the heat waves it gave off near the horizon, giving the ground a warped look.
They violently jumped when a shot from a laser gun whizzed from behind them and struck the ground at Kobra Kid’s feet.
With immediate reflexes they spun around and shot in the direction. Laser beams of orange, yellow, red, and blue flew across until it hit the ground, or a person.
“Don’t shoot me! I’m not with them!” in the short distance a kid no older than 17, just like Ghosted Revolver, dove to the ground.
Behind him Draculoids tried to run up on him. They ran with jerky movements like they couldn't hold their own guns. Their rubber masks must have been suffocating and they were just over heating. Their normal dirty clothing seemed much dirtier than normal, they must have been chasing the kid for a while.
After all the ugly twisted Draculoids were lying on the ground the kid ran up to the four of them.
“Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” he brushed his dirty pale red hair out of his face and smeared dirt on his forehead.
Ghosted Revolver, and the other three studied him close. He had a short sleeved red shirt and a torn up vest, as well as purple skinny jeans. A stuffed animal lemur was strapped to his back as well as a chain and a crossbow. None of which likely had any ammo.
“I was just trying to get to the diner over here but it's a hell of a walk and they were following you so I tried to take them out for you but uh…” he gestured to the lemur on his back. “I may or may not have forgotten to pack extra ammo”
“Expected,” Ghosted Revolver rolled her eyes and pushed her goggles back up.
“Whats your name, kid” Party Poison started walking back towards the dirty yellow car he was proud to call their ‘Killjoy Mobile’.
“Haunted Romeo,” the boy stated and shook the sand out of his hair.
“Nice to meet ya Romeo, I’m Ghosted Revolver, that's Party Poison” she pointed her gloved hand at the grinning red haired man. “That's Kobra kid, with the good luck helmet,” she pointed at him, to which he waved at Haunted Romeo. “That dingus over there is Jet Star,” he waved nicely at Haunted Romeo before showing off a choice finger to Ghosted Revolver. “In the car is Girl, and Fun Ghoul” she pointed at each of them.
“Hi!!!” Girl giggled and waved excitedly and smiled at the thought of a new friend.
“I’d be a little surprised if you didn't already know that though, our faces are all over in this place” she pointed at a paper that fluttered in the humid wind. “There's a poster of Kobra right now,”
Haunted Romeo watched the paper fly by with a determined look in his eyes.
“You you guys are…” he started looking at them with wide Hetero-chromatic blue and grey eyes.
Ghosted Revolver and Jet Star crossed their sunburned arms and leaned against the car while Party Poison and Kobra Kid sat on the black painted spider that adorned the hood of their car.
They all grinned at Haunted Romeo before joining in together “The Fabulous Killjoys!”
