Everyday
Chris Cutler
This morning’s wake up call was abrupt and less than pleasant. Some guy is laying beside me cuddles up to me making noises I really wish he wouldn’t and pressing tighter against me. Once the situation sets in, I have to decide if I’ll reciprocate or carry on. Personally, I’d pass, but this is someone else's life I’m borrowing and I learned the hard way just how catastrophic rejecting coitus could be to a relationship.
After accessing for a moment, I know that the “some guy” is actually Sterling, Chris’s roommate with benefits, and unfortunately my temporary roommate is seeking benefits. He apparently in no rush as he holds me to him with no obvious intention. This is a relief seeing as I’m not much for intimacy although I wouldn’t have been worse off if he just left me alone or made me coffee.
I lay there while he kisses at my neck for a while and can’t help but wonder what it would be like to have this be my life for the long term. It’s completely unrealistic for me and definitely out of the question, right? but I’m curious what it would be like to have repercussions and broken friendships and shitty memories and a kind of sensitivity that my line of work holds no room for.
Sterling suddenly pops up and heads out of the bedroom. After a moment or two he ducks his head back through the door. “C’mon, jerkwad” He says with simply before smiling widely and chuckling softly. “The one time I wordplay and you give me nothing. Sheesh, tough crowd.”
I pull myself out of bed, raising my arms and doing an almost backbend to stretch. “How is that wordp- oh.” I feel myself go red as I access that particular memory before ducking my head and recovering “Three’s a crowd, not two” I yawn falling him to the kitchen.“And did you just use wordplay as a verb?” I raise an eyebrow always happy when a body can.
“Well,” he says starting a pot of coffee “I’d like to think Bam Bam makes three.” He nods his head at the pug on the sofa. Right! I should’ve checked for pets. I usually do, but I’ve been trying to be more present these past days and unfortunately that leaves more room for error.
“Please, Bam Bam doesn’t care about wordplay. He wants bacon.” A bell rings as Sterling pours himself a cup of coffee with a sickening amount of cream. I access to find I have to leave for work in five minutes which is just as well. It’s not like I planned to sleep in with my touchy roommate.
I rush back to the room pulling on a fitting grey shortsleeve and the only jeans I saw not ripped to shit. On the way out I snatch a kiss and say bye because that’s apparently a Chris-like thing to do and I haul ass to work which I’m actually excited about seeing as I’m a barista and actually have an idea of what I’m doing.
As soon as I get my apron on and I’m working the register a dude walks in. Nothing against this dude, but he was the stereotypical fuckboy, insolence and all. After ordering some jibberish and adjusting his backwards snapback he takes a seat and haughtily waits for his drink.
The next dude to walk in though is beautiful. He has tattoos covering his lean arms and peaking from the sliver between his pants and his shirt. As he approaches the counter I can’t hold back a smile. “Hey there, handsome. What can I get you?”
“Large medium roast black coffee please.” I blushed a bit which seemed to be the name of the game today, but wrote it off as him being nice when the last guy was rude as fuck.
I ended up subconsciously murmur-singing “I like my coffee black just like my metal.” while punching in his order and giving him the receipt. “That’ll be out in just a minute, sir. What name?”
He thought for a minute which I found odd because I’m the only one who actually need to remember their name. “Imma go with Metatron.” He smiled all goofy and cute and I wanted to smile too, but…
“Who’s Metatron?”
“Aw, man. You don’t watch Supernatural?” He didn’t say it in a teasing way. He was just apparently floored by the information as he shook his head. A few moments and one other customer later, I handed him the coffee and as I pulled back he caught me. “What’s your name?” He searched Chris’s eyes for an answer.
“C-Chris?”
“Are you sure?” He giggled before handing me his phone. “I need a way to contact you since I live out of town. You can just give a fake number or email or whatever if you don’t want me to bug you.” He tucked his hair behind his ear and shrugged like anyone would dare deflect this beautiful, beautiful person.
I handed it back to him. “Look, I gotta get back to work, but that’s my email.” I obviously would have preferred to give my number but under the circumstances. “It was nice meeting you, Metatron.” I chuckled sending him on his way.
“Name’s Frank” He chirped before cradling his cup and walking out into the cool morning air.
I was held at knifepoint on the way home. I decided to save some money and maybe a little bit of the planet by walking the short distance home. After that, I maybe ran as fast as Chris could -which for the record was pretty dang fast- and went straight for the computer to make the email I gave him hoping the address wasn’t taken even though I was nearly positive it wasn’t. Then, I spent the day fooling around and watching the Goonies with my roommate for the day, starting to warm up to the benefits even if I kept Frank in mind.

Yes! I love you so much right now. David Levithan is second only to Cassandra Clare and I love the book so much! ^-^ I really just wanted to make a mcr spin off, but I read the book quite a while ago so it kind of just took a turn from there and so yeah, but seriously keep your enemies close and your book worms closer. Read the book, though. It's so friggin good. ;D
