The Summer Of Belleville Park
Chapter 1
Dear Diary,
Today was day one of 'Project Save Belleville Park', but we didn't really get further than introductions and far-fetched ideas. I really believe we can save the park, I mean, we have all summer. I mentioned starting off with the cliché lemonade stand, but Hayley turned it down. We need 3000 dollars for the city to consider keeping the park, and nothing will stand in my way.
Frank closed his diary with a satisfied sigh. (His mother had suggested he start writing down his feelings after his dad left, and he figured it sort of just.. Stuck, really. Sure, he usually got shit for writing in a diary, but, hey, it was relaxing.) Summer had just started, and the warm night breeze invited him into the promising season.
He had just gotten back from their local community center's meeting, and feelings of apprehensive excitement had been welled up in his throat ever since. Saving Belleville Park was beyond important to him, and he knew that it would take a lot of dedication and hard work. After meeting his team, however, he realized that a lot of that work would be placed on him.
He plopped his diary on his nightstand and rolled over to lay on his back. He closed his eyes, focusing only on the 3000 dollar gap that was between him and his beloved park.

When Frank had arrived at Belleville Park, the rest of the supporters had already adjourned at a weathered table under a thick beech tree. His friend, Hayley, was orchestrating with a clipboard in hand. Alicia, Hayley's girlfriend, flashed him a supporting smile. A guy from their school, Brendon, and his boyfriend, Ryan, sat cross-legged and facing each other, smiling and twisting their fingers together. Patrick was content with just sitting in the grass, admiring the tiny flowers. This was one of the few parts of the park that hadn't been overrun with debris and graffiti.
Frank gave a little wave at the group, which they casually returned. Grinning, he jogged the rest of the way to the table, only to waltz right in the middle of this conversation:
"I'm just saying, Ryan! If you killed me, you would totally bury my body in this park!" Brendon chattered, "You're predictable like that."
He rolled his eyes and said, "Brendon, I would never kill you."
Alicia interjected, "Because you looove him, dude! Just admit it!"
Ryan glowered at the girl with dyed-black hair and replied, "Look who's talking! You and Hayley were sucking face for like, fifteen minutes before Frank showed up."
Alicia pondered this and said, "Just because you make out with a person, it doesn't mean you love them,"
That, Hayley overheard, to which she responded, "Well, Alicia, I personally don't have any problem with killing you!"
Frank shook his head, saying, "Okay guys, let's talk strategy."
As the small group discussed the future of Belleville Park, another similar discussion was taking place not too far from there.
