Good Nite Dr Death

Revelations

“I have betrayed everything I know. My friends, my family and six generations of hunters just because I was scared of death.”
“A human reaction to a rather nasty dilemma. Do you regret it?”
“Fuck no….”
Kier wriggled and grinned as Gee flicked his nipple with his tongue, one hand still buried in my hair. The last month had been a revelation on many fronts and none more so than this. Kier had been distraught when he had woken up a vampire and in some ways he had literally become my puppy as he followed and learnt at Gerard’s heels. He had been reticent to talk about his former life and none of us had pushed. When you have eternity you can afford to be patient and there would be more learned by bringing Kier into the group than pushing him out of it.
It had finally happened by chance. We had been clubbing out of town, an unusual thing for all of us to leave home together but Mikey had insisted we needed a night out and Claire had been determined to make everyone relax and have a good time. It had become harder to move around and we had heard tales of The Council clearing smaller covens at the north of the city all the time looking for Kier. We hunted carefully and quietly, building alliances with another coven north of us that Frank knew well. Everyone else seemed to have run.
“Drink up.”
Frank raised his glass and kissed Mikey full on the lips which started a kissing battle. I took my chance as I had been longing to kiss Claire for quite some time and it was only when there was a polite round of applause that we broke free of each other. I blushed, Claire giggling as Frank and Gee clung to each other in mock horror.
“Quit it, not like you two don’t kiss.”
“We never do! Lies!”
Mikey chuckled and began listing the bed hopping as I looked a little amazed. It seemed to be a hobby and none of them were embarrassed about it. I listened quietly until Gerard noticed the slightly stunned look on my face. He put his drink down and gathered me up into his arms.
“It bothers you?”
I winked at him and pulled Claire’s face back to mine. There was no doubt now that I wanted to share my man and my bed with Claire and whoever else wanted. There were cheers and laughter as Claire returned the kiss passionately, our hands already wandering. Mikey and Ray passed a one hundred dollar bill between them, I later learned that there had been some betting involved. When civility had been restored we all noticed that Gerard had Kier by the hair and was pretty much repeating what he had just seen. The boy looked flushed and shocked when they broke apart, his smile shy.
“Wow….”
I giggled, kissing Gee tended to have that effect.
“Haven’t you kissed a man before?”
“No. I wanted to, hell I was in love with my best friend but it never happened.”
Mikey smiled, his mind tended to leap ahead before the rest of us and Claire nudged my arm. Clearly a plan was forming as another bottle of whiskey appeared on the table. Gerard stroked down Kier’s neck and mine, the smirk on his face revealed the predator within. Claire and Frank were entwined with Ray leaning against Mikey, all of our eyes fixed on the youngest among us. Mikey slid the glass across to him.
“Now you can. You can do whatever it is you want. Frank and Gee may have found their others but that relates to love, not sex. If you want Gee I am sure he will be happy to oblige.”
The boy blushed again and gulped down the whiskey.
“I have a lot to learn and I suppose I have to. Can’t pretend that I have a choice.”
There was a silence, all of us knowing that he had not exactly become one of us from free will. Kier pushed his fringe back and smiled, the first genuine smile we had seen. He finally told us more about his life before. He had been born into a family of hunters that had belonged to The Council for generations. Kier had been expected to join too despite it meaning giving up a normal life and relationships. He had been sent out to learn the hunters ways at fifteen and now helped lead his own troupe with the other men I had met, Laurence, Shane, Drew and Luke.
“It was drummed in that being a vampire was worse than death but it’s not. I feel more alive now than before.”
Gerard smiled, his eyes now firmly on mine.
“Of course they would tell you that. We feed of them to stay alive and nothing more. If we wanted we could have waged war on mankind but what’s the point of that?”
“They intend to wage war on us.”
It was the breakthrough we had been waiting for and now we had the advantage. Over the next few weeks we all tried out the revelations of that night. Claire and I now often shared a bed and each other with either Frank or Gerard, sometimes Mikey would appear to. It was relaxed and entertaining, Gerard explaining it that while love may last eternally it was fun to enjoy other bodies to pass the time.
Kier had been a revelation. Once he had embraced his new life it became clear that he was a sensual man, now free from all that had held him back. He killed cleanly but without mercy, soon joining with Frank to teach us all how to fight better and faster. He wanted to see his friends again, to turn them so that we would have a Trojan horse strategy to employ.
We were discussing it now, Gerard’s head lay on Kier’s chest as I ran my fingers down his back. The open window was letting in the rain in a cooling mist as we came down from the hour or two of frantic enjoyment. I liked to hear them discuss strategy, Kier was smart, the long fringe that fell into his eyes when he got excited was now jumping and I could hear the laughter in his voice.
“The Council has become complacent. They won’t see it coming.”
Gerard’s reply was a little muffled until he pulled himself up between us and we rested, heads together as we listened to the distant thunder.
“Which is good but we mustn’t underestimate them. Don’t think that just because you have come to embrace this life that your friends will too. Not everyone does.”
A little surprise crept into my voice as I kissed him.
“They don’t?”
“No. Some reject it and you never see them again.”
His voice was slightly bitter, Kier and I looked eyes and I shook my head slightly. Gerard still remained reticent about his past and I didn’t want to push when it really didn’t matter. Claire said it was best left alone and even Mikey wouldn’t say so we avoided the topic. Now I wondered who had betrayed him so badly.
“I hope they do. I miss them.”
The mood seemed to have darkened so I pulled the covers up over us, Gee’s head resting in the crook of my neck. He always slept that way and now Kier slept too, his arm around Gee. Only I remained awake and plotting. I would make sure that at least one of Kier’s friends remained with him and find out just what had happened to the man I loved.
