The Poets Screamed For Us

Over the next few weeks, Gerard began noticing changes in his appearance. His cheek bones were more pronounced, and he was much paler. He was hardly ever hungry, and he always woke up in the morning with terrible chest pains. He had to stop sleeping in the same bed with Frank because whenever he woke up, he would cough so loud that Frank would wake up and it made Gerard feel bad.
He spent his nights in his cold, dark room all by himself and he cursed his cancer for it. He could really have something with the short tattooed man across the hallway from him, but he was going to die and he would never forgive himself if he had fallen in love before he went. You see, Frank is just an easy person to love. He always laughs a little too loud and his hands are almost always moving. Wether he was playing his guitar or he was just using them while he talked. Those tattooed fingers were never still.
Gerard always smiled when he thought about Frank. He owed so much to him. Frank was the only reason Gerard hadn't killed himself yet. If Gerard hadn't stumbled across that small red car parked a few blocks from his house, he would have tried to end his life before the cancer could do it for him. Gerard didn't like not being able to control things, and that's probably why he ran away in the first place. His mother wanted him to do chemo, and that's not what he wanted. He knew he was going to die, so what was the point? The chemo would just hurt him and make his last few months a living hell.
He knew he didn't have to worry about his mother anymore, though. She had always kept him at a distance since she had found out that he was gay. She wanted grandchildren and thought she wouldn't get them if he was with another man. Gerard didn't mind that she ignored him most of the time. He liked being alone, he just didn't like feeling lonely, and at this moment in time, he felt very lonely and wanted very much to just run across the hall and fall into Frank's bed with him.
