The Poets Screamed For Us
Two
The boys took turns driving, while the other would rest, and within a few hours, they had arrived in Jersey. Frank decided it was probably time he took the wheel, so that he could drive them to his neighborhood. He wasn’t really sure if he was going to bring Gerard to his house, but he didn’t want to leave the young, mysterious boy homeless.
“Do you have a plan on where you’re going to stay?” Frank asked, as he looked at Gerard in the rearview mirror. He had still refused to move his guitar.
“Um, not really. I guess I didn’t think I would make it this far.” He said, without looking up at the smaller man in the front seat.
Frank immediately started feeling bad for the boy.
“Well, I have a pretty good sized house if you maybe want to crash there until you figure out what you want to do.” He said, and he didn’t know if this was the right thing. What if he woke up to Gerard cooking a cat in the microwave or something? You never know. Frank giggled at the thought, and realized Gerard had been talking.
“Sorry what was that?”
“I said, only if I wouldn’t be a burden.” Gerard said with a small smile. Frank loved the boy’s smile. It showed his little teeth, and when you really made him laugh, his cute little nose would crinkle up by his eyes.
“Nah, you wouldn’t be a burden. It actually might not be so bad, having a roommate.” He said, and continued his focus on the busy road ahead of him.
After another hour or so, Frank parked the car in his long driveway.
Gerard slowly examined the outside of Frank’s house. It was a one story brick house, with a few plants outside, but they were dead. It had a black door, and a porch swing.
Frank walked over to the other side of the car, and unstrapped his guitar, then closed the door and walked to the front door, with Gerard walking behind him. Frank unlocked the door, and pushed it open.
“Follow me” He said over his shoulder to Gerard, who did as was told.
Frank led them down a long hall, full of posters on the wall, to his small living room. He placed his guitar on the leather loveseat and Gerard sat down next to it.
“Okay, I just have a few rules.” Frank said, and immediately cringed at the fact that he sounded like a parent.
“One, please don’t cook any cats in the microwave.” Gerard looked shocked.
“Has that happened before?” He asked and Frank laughed.
“Anyway, two, if you see a spider, smoosh that motherfucker. Don’t call me in to do it, I swear to god. That’s about it. Dinner is usually around 8.” He said, and picked his guitar back up.
“Come on, I’ll show you around.”
Gerard got up from his comfortable position on the couch and followed the small, tattooed man.
Frank led him back down the hall they had came in. He pointed to his right, where there was a door with a Misfits poster on it.
“This is my room, and this one is yours.” He pointed to the guest room across from his room. It didn’t have any posters on the door. “Feel free to decorate your room and door any way you want to. The bathroom is down the hall to the left, right by the front door, and the kitchen is connected to the living room. Let me know if you need anything. I’m gonna take a nap.” Frank smiled at Gerard, and went into his room. He opened his guitar case, and took it out, then put it on the stand he had next to his closet, and tossed the case on the floor. He pulled his jeans off so he was just in his boxers and a shirt, and crawled into bed, snoring away within minutes.
Gerard walked into his room and sat down on the bed. It was a pretty soft bed, and the blankets were red. The walls were uncomfortably white, and he decided he would get some posters soon. He sat there awkwardly for a few minutes, seeing as he couldn’t unpack because he didn’t bring anything with him. He just had what he was wearing, which was an Iron maiden shirt, a leather jacket, and jeans.
He stood up off of his bed and decided he would snoop around. Gerard always was a very nosey person. He liked to know what was around in case he needed it for.. purposes.
He slipped off his shoes, and walked into the long hallway. He made his way back into the living room, and looked around. There was a big flat screen on one wall, and the leather loveseat on another. There was a few shelves above the couch, and he walked over to them. They were packed with movies, cds, and vinyls. He smiled at all that Frank had.
He noticed a few pictures on the wall near the tv, and decided to look at them. There was a picture of Frank and what must be his band, and there was a picture of Frank and a woman who looked a lot like him, so he assumed it was his mother. He noted how cute Frank looked in the picture. He had a genuine smile on his face and it made Gerard’s heart flutter. Frank really was an attractive dude. He had dark brown hair that came down to his shoulders, and his bright brown eyes, that had flakes of green and yellow in them. If it were any other situation that Gerard was in, he would have maybe asked Frank out.
He made his way into Frank’s little kitchen, and looked in the cabinets. Frank actually had a lot of food. He would always find himself hungry at random times throughout the day, so he found it good to have food in the house. Gerard grabbed a bag of chips and walked back into his room.
He felt slightly uncomfortable because his closet door was a full mirror, so if he looked in that direction, he would see himself.
Gerard was always very uncomfortable with his body, and he knew it was only going to get worse.
You see, a few days before he got into Frank’s car, Gerard was given some pretty terrible news.
He has cancer, and he’ll be lucky if he lasts another three months.
