The Poets Screamed For Us

“I know I never do this. I know this is something that is entirely foreign to me. I know this probably won't work, but it’s all I have left. It’s all I can do. So, here it goes. Dear God, please please don’t take him from me. Please hold off for a while longer. You don’t get to do that, you know. You don’t get to give me this amazing person who I couldn’t imagine my life without, and then just decide you want him back. Look, he’s everything to me, so please make him better. If you do, I swear I’ll change. I won’t be such an awful person anymore. I’ll get my shit together. I promise.”
Frank smiled to himself before standing up off of the ground. He has no clue why he prayed.
He’s never been entirely religious, but when it comes to Gerard, he would do anything if it meant he would get better.
“Hey, do you want something to eat?”
Gerard glanced at him from his spot on the couch. “Actually yeah. I’m starving.”
Frank grinned. Gerard hasn’t been hungry in days, and now he’s finally ready to eat.
“I can order us a pizza?” He offered. Gerard nodded, and Frank grabbed his phone.
Twenty minutes and a pizza later, the two boys were sat on the floor in the living room laughing about an overly cheesy horror movie they had been watching. “I can’t believe she ran right into his trap! It was obviously there.” Gerard said in between giggles.
“I swear, these movies get worse and worse each year.” Frank laughed out.
“Frank, your birthday is coming up! God, we’ve been so preoccupied with doctors visits and treatments that I almost completely forgot. I’m so sorry.”
Frank smiled at him, “It’s totally okay, Gee. You’re more important to me than another day of getting old.”
Gerard rolled his eyes at him. “What do you want for your birthday?”
“I already have everything I could want. I have you.”
Gerard blushed a little and slapped his arm. “You cheesy fuck. I’m serious. Actually, I know what I’m going to get you.”
“What is it?” Frank said, intrigued and curious.
“It’s a surprise.”
“I hate surprises.” Frank sighed out. Gerard laughed.
“No you fucking don’t! You’re like a five year old. You love surprises and you know it.”
Frank shrugged. “Yeah, true. I guess you just know me too well.”
“Well, I’ve lived with you for almost half a year. I figure I ought to know you.”
Frank nodded. “It also helps that I am hopelessly and completely in love with you.” Gerard said quietly, so quietly that Frank hadn’t heard him, and maybe Gerard should have said it louder, because it was really all Frank had wanted to hear that morning. It was all Frank ever wanted to hear, because Gerard really was his whole world, and it’s always comforting to know that your world loves you too, even if it allows you to destroy it.
