Can I Be Your Dying Wish
Meeting The Family
[Gerard's P.O.V.]
I woke up with Frank lying nearly on top of me. My head was leaning in the most uncomfortable position- courtesy of the couch arm, of course, and the weight of Frank on me. I moved my head to relieve the dull ache; my movement, along with the fact that he was already near the edge, caused Frank to fall off the couch. "Fuck!""Uh, sorry." I said, trying not to laugh."Fucking asshole, it isn't funny! Help me up." He smiled.I let out a giggle,"I didn't mean it." I sat up and reached for the blanket that held him captive and pulled it away, still giggling, "You okay?""Fucking peachy." He grumbled. I giggled again,"Hey, I didnt mean it. I was just trying to move to get a bit more comfortable."He smiled,"I know, I'm not mad.""Good, you shouldn't be, you looked perfectly comfortable using me as a pillow.""I was, and now I'm on the floor.""Well, get back up here.""Help me up." He held out his hands. I grabbed his hands and pulled him up,"Well, good morning.""Good morning.""Did you sleep well?""Very well, you're very comfortable." He smiled."Good to hear. I wish I could say the same about your couch." I smiled back."It's better if it's only one person." He giggled, brushing a strand of hair out of his eyes.I couldn't help but giggle at him, his hair all messy. As I recalled what happened the night before- I felt my mood instantly drop, and he noticed."What's wrong?" He asked.I looked to the ground before answering,"Nothing, just thinking about last night.""Oh... what about it?" He asked."I'm just... shocked, you know?" I replied, still looking down."I'm really sorry about just dumping it all on you like that.""Well, there's no way to tell someone that without it hitting them like a ton of bricks.""Still, I don't know... I just feel kind of guilty; that's a lot to dump on a person.""What really shocked me is that you're really not getting treatment.""Plenty of people refuse treatment." He shrugged."Well yeah, old people who have lived a full life, people who have fucked their life up beyond repair, poor people who can't afford it. You're none of those. So why?""I told you last night, Gerard, I don't want to pollute my body with the chemo. I mean yeah, it could possibly help but it would just be biding time. Cancer will always come back and it comes back twice as hard when it does.""But it could go away, for good."He shook his head, "It will always come back, it's only a matter of time.""You don't know that. Worst comes to worst, you'll need a lung transplant, and if you get that it won't come back.""My body could also reject the transplant."I felt my heart drop, "You can't live like this. You're living in the 'what ifs' and that's no way to live.""No, I'm not. You are. You're living in 'what ifs', Gerard. 'What if chemo works?' 'What if I simply need a transplant?' I'm living in facts. I am going to die. That is a fact. It is inevitable. So what if I get a little more time. That time means nothing if I spend it sick and exhausted from the chemo."I paused; I had an idea, "Frank, hand me my jacket please."He handed me my jacket, "Here."Without saying anything, I took my cigarettes out of the pocket and put them on the coffee table in front of us. Knowing he'd have something to say, I just looked at him and waited for his reaction. "You smoke?" He exclaimed, completely shocked. "Yes." I stated."Why? Since when?""It calms me down. I've done it since the first year of highschool.""Why? It's gross. You're polluting your lungs, your healthy lungs. You're wasting them."I shrugged, "I guess you don't think about that sort of thing.""It's a shame to waste perfect lungs.""You can save yours; it's a waste to throw your life away.""If I get chemo and it doesn't send it into remission, then I'd die poisoned from the chemo, exhausted and sicker than if I let the cancer take me""You're acting like you have cancer that's incurable; you told me the doctor said that there's a 70 percent survival rate. Frank, you can beat this.""But at what cost, Gerard?""Okay, I'm clearly not winning this today. Will you make a deal with me?""What do you have in mind?" He asked, curious."I'll stop smoking if you give me a chance to convince you to get chemo."He sighed and thought about it."Well?" I added."It's a deal." He agreed."Shake on it?" I offered. He smirked, "Or we could kiss on it.""That does sound better.""I agree." I leaned over and kissed him. He smiled into the kiss and leaned in a bit closer. He pulled away from the kiss quickly and went into another coughing fit. "Are you okay? - well, obviously you're not okay." He continued coughing rather violently.I sat there, unable to do anything but hope that he would stop; it sounded excruciatingly painful. After a few moments, filled with painful coughs and desperate breaths, he finally stopped. "Sorry about that." He said after he caught his breath."Don't apologize. Isn't that painful?"He nodded, "Very.""Are you okay now?""Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you.""Are you up for going somewhere?" I asked."Depends on where." He shrugged."It's a surprise. I want you to meet someone, but we can stop and get coffee on the way.""Coffee? I'm in." He smiled."Sounds good. Why don't you get dressed, and then we'll go.""You mean this isn't appropriate attire?" He asked sarcastically as he got up from the couch, "who am I meeting? The queen?""Well no, but just get dressed."He stuck out his tongue, "kill joy."I giggled, "how old are you, 6?"He crossed his arms like a defiant child,"I'm 6 and a half; get it right.""Sorry, now go get dressed.""Fine, fine." He walked into his bedroom.I got out my phone and scrolled through the contacts to find Mikey's. I clicked on it and texted him, "Hey. Are you guys home? There's someone I want you to meet." A few moments later he replied, "Ya, we're all home. Who do you want us to meet?"I didn't reply, he'd find out when we got there. After a few minutes, Frank came back out of his room wearing jeans and a black t-shirt."Ready?" I asked."Yeah, I'm ready.""Then lets go." I grabbed my jacket and slipped my shoes on.I opened his apartment door for him,"after you, princess."He rolled his eyes and locked his door before making his way down the stairs. We got to the bottom of the stairs and went out to my car."So where to?" He asked as we got in."You'll see when we get there; I already told you that."We drove in silence most of the way. We stopped to get coffee, then for the remainder of the ride, we talked about music. When we got to my parents house he turned and looked at me after looking over the house, "Whose house is this?""My parents', and Mikey's.""O-oh... your family.""Is that a problem?""No, I'm just feeling a bit nervous.""Don't worry, they're friendly and I'm nervous too.""Why are you nervous? They're your family." He looked back at me from where he sat in the passenger seat. "Well yeah, but they don't know I'm gay yet.""Oh, right... I forgot.""Well, let's go." I said, getting out of the car.He got out of the car as well, "Do they know that I'm going to be here?""Well I texted Mikey and asked if they were home and told them that I wanted them to meet someone... so, he knows; I don't know if he told my mom or dad, but he knows.""Oh."We walked up to the door and I opened it."Gerard! I didn't know you were visiting, and you have a friend." My mom said as soon as she saw me."I texted Mikey; I figured he'd tell you, but clearly he didn't. And yeah this is Frank.""Yes... clearly he didn't tell me.""Where is he anyways?""Probably in his room.""I'm gonna go see him. He's still in my old room in the basement right?""Yeah, he's still living in your old room... I'm starting to think he's never moving out." She joked.I laughed, "Come on, Frank; let's go see Mikey.""Okay." He replied, looking up at me.I walked through the kitchen and down the stairs to the basement. "Hey you little shithead. Why didn't you tell mom I was coming?" I said as soon as I saw mikey."You didn't tell me to..." He shrugged."It was implied. You know, manners? I know mom taught them to us.""Look at you, going in about manners when you haven't introduced me to your friend yet." He countered.I rolled my eyes at him, "Mikey, this is Frank; Frank, this is my little brother, Mikey."Frank looked at him,"Hello.""So this is Frank? Oh, Gerard talks about you so much.""I've never even mentioned him to you.""Oh, come on. I'm trying to embarrass you. And you actually have mentioned him before.""That doesn't work, little bro, and you know that."He just laughed. "Don't you ever clean up down here?""Compared to how you kept it, this place is fucking immaculate.""You know I kept it spotless, aside from my drawing stuff.""If by spotless you mean you couldn't see a spot on the floor, then yes.""You're such a smartass.""I learned it from my big brother. He's 10 times worse than I am, he's uglier too.""Don't make me beat you up like I used to when we were kids.""Oh, I'm so scared." He said sarcastically"You should be, but anyways, come on upstairs." I began heading back upstairs."Hey mom, can you come into the living room with dad?" I asked."Of course, honey." She smiled.Soon enough the whole family was gathered in the living room.I looked around to find Frank sitting behind me, "Frank, get up. Come here."He did as I asked and stood next to me. I looked around at my family before I spoke,"So guys, this is Frank, and he isn't just a friend," I paused before adding, "he's my boyfriend." I put my arm around him. After taking a moment to get over the initial shock, my mom smiled, "Oh, sweetheart, that's wonderful.""Really?" I asked, shocked as I removed my arm from from around Frank."Of course. I haven't seen you this happy in ages." She replied, smiling a bit wider. I looked down and smiled a bit as I felt my cheeks flush red. Then Frank interlocked his fingers with mine. "You raised a gentleman, Mrs. Way." He smiled at my mother."Awh- look Gee, you're blushing!" Mikey taunted jokingly.Frank looked up and smiled at me as I felt the blush spread across my face."Shut up, Mikey." I said in reply."Make me.""Maybe I will.""Go ahead. I'm not afraid of Peter Pan.""Mikey! Don't bring that up now!""Peter Pan?" Frank asked curiously."Uh nothing-" I said before adding,"Mikey's still afraid of the dark.""Gerard played Peter Pan in a musical!" Mikey blurted out."Oh my God." I said under my breath."Were you really?" Frank asked. "No!""Yes he was," my mother replied happily," and I have the video.""Mom no.""Mom yes" Mikey encouraged her."Why must you torture me?""Because this is the first date you've brought home. I haven't gotten the chance to embarrass you in front of your girlfriend or boyfriend.""Please no, can't you just show pictures?"Frank looked at me and gave me the puppy dog eyes, "Please? I'd love to see the video."I sighed, "You're lucky you're you. Go ahead, show the video." He smiled and kissed my cheek quickly,"Thank you.""How long is the video? It can't be too long. I was only on stage long enough to sing two songs.""It doesn't even take one whole song to make you look like a dork though." Mikey smirked."Shut up, nerd.""Gerard Green-tights." He mocked."I hate you so much right now."He smirked at me, "I know.""Go get the video, mom, what are you waiting for?""For you two to stop arguing.""Just go get it I promise not to beat him up like we're 6 again. But if I do, I'll wait for you to get back.""You two boys need to behave in front of our guest.""He started it." I pointed my finger at him,"besides, I have something better to worry about." I sat down and tugged Frank's hand to sit next to me before putting my arm around him. Mom smiled at us, "I'll be right back in.""So, Mikes, do you ever plan on moving out of here?" I asked."Do you ever plan on getting a life.""I have one. I have a house, and a boyfriend. Do you still talk to that weird fluffy haired kid down the street?" I asked."He has a name you know. And he isn't a kid.""I'm sorry. Do you still talk to your boyfriend down the street?""He isn't my boyfriend.""You sure about that?""Fairly certain.""What about that time I caught you kissing him?"He went pale, "You didn't see anything!"I laughed "Yes, I did. You two were at that park, by the tree, kissing.""We were not!"I wanted to say more but Frank cut me off, "Gee."I looked at him, "What?"He gave me a look that told me I should stop."Fine. But mikes, you shouldn't be embarrassed there's nothing wrong with it.""Oh my god, let it go.""I will, for now. You're lucky Frank is here.""I got the tape!" She said happily as she walked in."I'm probably gonna be single after this." I sighed."Dude, if you haven't already scared him away by now, I don't think he's going anywhere.""Yeah, Gerard. I mean you took me to a comic book store as a date. I don't think you have anything to worry about.""Good point.""You took him to a comic book store? That isn't very romantic, Gerard." Mom chimed in.I shrugged, "We had fun.""I don't really care for comics, but it made Gee happy.""Gerard! He doesn't care for comics! I thought that was a deal breaker." Mikey gasped."Yeah, well I love him." I smiled and looked at Frank. He looked at me and smiled, "I love you too""Ew, guys, get a closet.""We could get a tree at the park. You seemed to enjoy that.""I said let it go.""Mom, play the video already. What's the holdup?""Waiting for you to pipe down.""Fine, we'll shut up."She pressed play and the old low quality video began with a few other kids and me on stage, singing 'I Won't Grow Up' and dancing to the horrific choreography that was planned."Oh my God," I said under my breath, putting my head down, "we were so bad.""Oh my God!" Frank smiled, "you were so cute! Oh my god. Look at you!"I put my hands over my face,"Why did I agree to that play?""Shut up, this is adorable.""I looked like a girl.""You still look like a girl." Mikey laughed."Yeah but at least I'm not prancing about in tights.""I dont know, you might do that at your apartment. " Mikey smirked."I don't.""Sure you don't."After it was over, Frank just looked at me and laughed,"You were so cute.""No. I wasn't. I'm surprised nobody figured out I was gay after that."He kissed my cheek, "It was really cute.""Thanks babe," I smiled at him before looking at my mother, "well mom it was nice visiting, but there's somewhere else I want to take Frank so we're gonna get going now if that's alright.""Sure thing, dear," She smiled and looked at Frank, "it was great to meet you.""Yeah, you too." He smiled at her."Bye Mikes.""Bye. Cool meeting you, Frank.""You too, Mikey"We got up and walked it the door. Once we got out, Frank turned to me, "So where are we going?""You'll see."We got in the car and I turned it on. I put my seatbelt on before checking if Frank was ready. Then I drove off."Where are we going, Gerard?" He asked again."Well we're going to get something to eat, then were going to hang out at a park for the day, unless you have plans.""Sounds good." He replied, smiling.
Notes
sorry for not updating yesterday i forgot to.
and also it may be a bit before the next update because up untill now the chapters were pre written.
You know what I do to counter the weird format problem, I put an extra space in between each person's dialog. Idk if that helps anyone else, but thats just what I do. There is def more space put in my stories in general, but I figured that ppl would rather have that then one huge paragraph massed together. I hate when that ends up happening in my fave stories.
