The Hunted And The Damned
Search and Destroy
*Gerard's P.O.V*
Walking down empty allyways and streets late at night had somewhat become a regular occurrence for me now, ever since I got promoted to section leader. Usually when you hear that title, Section Leader Way, you would thik I'm In the Army or the Air Force, but no. I am the Section Leader of a squadron base of Demon hunters. Yes, strange isn't it? My family have grown up in this- area- and I have been dragged into it, rather than having a normal life with a wife, children and a normal house. But I roam the streets, waiting for my commander to give me the orders or directions to the nearest demon in the block or any supernatural disturbances. I guess it has it's advantages, you get treated with respect- sort of- and as soon as I age out in a few years, I get no more of this killing bullshit. It's almost like murdering humans, some of them are in their natural forms- ugly as shit- or they can form a human figure to allow them to walk amongst us which is the hardest part, killing something that looks like a man or woman.
Transition noises started coming through my ear as that signaled a new target. Great.
"Mr Way, we have news of a new target near your position, if you wish to take it." the commanders voice came through strong and clear. The familiar shiver went through my spine as the thought of killing struck me hard. God I hate this job, but it's the only thing I'm good at.
"Of course sir, just send through the coordinates and I will have that target eliminated within the hour." I replied sternly. I immediately received directions to the target that was only a few blocks away to my luck- I guess.
I prepared my blade at my side that was specially designed with holy water and runes. This blade has murdered and slaughtered many of different species of those damned things. I pulled my blade out of its holster and gripped its handle as I turned round the corner to witness the demon. The talent we have been taught in 'training' to be a fucking murderer is to be able to see a demon even when it's in it's human form, as if to see its aura, to ensure that we don't scare ordinary civilians. I began to focus my eyesight so I could see this demon and scanned the area. Soon enough I spotted it, the thing. It had shifted into a womans body and walked nervously down the street, probably trying to feed by acting hopeless and attracting some attention to a helper just to feed off it's body. Its disgusting and to witness that is unbearable. Watching a hopeless civilians life being pulled away without a reason other to satisfy the needs or a disgusting creature. I must stop this.
I walked silently up to the thing, ensuring that he couldn't hear me and thought out my strategy plan, what I would do to make sure that nobody saw this happening. Just as I made my move to dig my blade in this monster, it turned and faced me. It made some kind of low growl at the back of its throats it began to change.
"Fuck," I whispered as its body grew and clothes ripped to shreds as its grey body pulsed with muscles and bulge.
Rule one of demon hunting; don't piss off the demon.
And I just broke it.
The things teeth grew into fangs that sat jagged in its mouth and spit dripped down its mouth and chin as it let out a mighty roar. I had to move, I had to get it somewhere out of public. I pulled out my smaller dagger, climbed to the top of the car next to this demon, jumped on it and stabbed it in it's arm to make sure it's pissed off that much that it will follow me. I jumped away with the dagger and ran off to the direction of the derelict field nearby.
Luckily enough, it followed me. Great.
"Gerard, this is a grade 3 demon you know?" the commander said through my headset.
"Sort of figured that out sir!" I shouted as I sprinted as fast as I could with this fucking pissed off demon snarling at me while he's hot my heels. Finally, I had reached the field and turned to face my opponent. It continued to run at me and I had to think quick.
"Fuck you!" I cried as I ran back at it and rolled under his feet, sticking my blade in its underbelly. It let out a mighty roar and stumbled to its feet. I took my chance and climbed to the top of it. I swung my blade above my head and shoved it through its chest.
One last roar and the beast took its final breath before disappearing back into its unknown dimension.
I lay there, half in triumph and half in defeat as I look back at my stupid mistake. I am the bat hunter around and still I fuck this up and get chased at fucking midnight by a grade 3 demon. Damn.
"We see the target has been eliminated. Well done Section Leader Way but we have more coordinates for you in the morning, we've been tracking this one for a while and seems to be out of the ordinary. Good luck." commander said before the transition cut off. I sat in the grass and brushed my black hair out of my face and looked up at the sky. Maybe someday I could be normal, maybe someday I could stop running and looking over my back, but that day doesn't seem to be near.
