Lady Of Sorrows? I Think Not!
The Ghost of You
"I..." Gerard glanced at Frank before turning his tortured expression on his brother. "Mikey, I don't know what to tell you." He shook his head and turned away. "Look, nothing happened. Just leave it alone. I need to go back to work, okay." Mikey shoved away from the counter, his emotions carefully controlled behind his mask of apathy. It was a face he was used to wearing; all through his teen years he had been the shadow in the back of the class. A shadow didn't have scars, or feelings. Gerard kept his back turned although he knew that his brother woulnd't forgive him, not for a long while. They had their mother disappear on them one too many times for Mikey to be okay with it. But Gerard had only heard one set of footsteps behind him. Turning around with his hopes held too high, he could have melted at the sight of Frankie still standing there, framed perfectly by the bay window, the sunlight shining off of his black hair.
"Frankie?" Gerard's voice was soft, hesitant even, and Frank didn't seem t hear. Glancing at the only group of customers, Gerard descided it was okay for him to go over. Half way across the room, he hestitated again. Why was Frank so quiet? Had he forgotten? No. He must have just changed his mind. Gerard shook his head and strode over to the beautiful man, wanting so desperately to just take his hand and be with him again. But based on this cold, twisted feeling in his chest, he knew it wasn't going to happen. "Frank, I don't understand why you're being so quiet, but if I did something wrong, please just tell me so I can fix it." Gerard reached out and laid his hand lighlty on the shorter man's shoulder. As soon as his hand touched Frank, he flinched and jerked himself away as if he hadn't known Gerard was there.
"What the fuck! Don't sneak up on me man." Frank rubbed his face and took a couple deep breaths. His hazle eyes narrowed as they drifted over Gerard's pale, scuplted face. His deep gaze was unsettling, as if he was memorizing every tiny detail. Gerard shifted under that stare, a little scared and a lot uncomfortable. "Sorry for snapping. You just gave me half a heart attack there." Frank smiled slightly, and Gerard couldn't help but look down at his soft lips. Frank leant in close, his lips close to Gerard's soft cheek, and took in a slow breath. He did so love that smell. Frank bit his lip and schooled his features carefully before stepping back. "Goodbye, Gee."
"Goodbye? Fra-" Gerard gasped softly as Frank pushed past him, being none to gentle. Gerard spun around to watch him walk away, never looking back. He hadn't moved when the door swung shut, hadn't moved a muscle. What the hell was going on here?
As his foot hit the sidewalk, Frank trailed his fingertips across the gothic tribal patterns freshly tattooed on the backs of his hands, and the letters written across his knuckles. Grinning, Frank started walking down the street, going in no general direction. His thumbs rubbed over his fingers where they were interlocked in front of him. How had Gerard know his birthday was on hallowe'en? The sketch had been so perfect... Meant for him... Wasn't it?
Notes
Ugh sorry for the short chapter guys; I have tests to study for and I have to maintain my grades or else. But the news is good, we got a little look at Gerard again, but now (for you guys at least) there are only more questions. I wonder, how did Frank know about the missing sketch...? Or...
