The Storm

The List Goes On

After returning from the creek Gerard and Lucy quickly stowed away the chainsaws in preparation of the storm that was moving in.

Once done Gerard glanced across the field. “Man, that is cool looking. Shit, you’d think after what happened I’d hate storms.”

Lucy followed his gaze. “I’ve always loved storms, the sheer beauty and power.” Just then a large flash of lightning zigzagged across the darkening sky. “Been through a few tornados in my time but they never changed the way I feel about storms.”

A loud clap of thunder hit just as she finished speaking.

“Think this is gonna be a bad one?” Gerard asked still watching the rolling clouds.

“We should probably turn on the weather radio.”

They headed towards the house with Rex trailing behind. It was a relief to discover the electricity had been restored. Taking seats at the kitchen table they listened to the automated voice on the radio drone on about a thunder storm warning for the area.

“So” Gerard finally said, “Doesn’t sound too terrible.”

Lucy laughed, “Doesn’t right now but that can change quickly.”

“Think we can chance heading out to the barn?” He was hoping to watch the approaching storm from the high vantage point.

“Well” She answered looking around the kitchen. “First I’d really like to get the food from the cooler into the fridge.”

“Sure.” He stood moving towards the humming appliance. However when he opened the door he frowned, “Wow, you really didn’t have much in here, did you?”

She shrugged, “Good thing I didn’t or I wouldn’t have had enough ice that first night to keep things from spoiling. Besides since it’s usually just me I don’t need a lot of groceries.”

For several minutes they worked together placing the food into the fridge from the cooler.

“Okay” Lucy said when they were done. “Let’s head out before the rain gets here.” Suddenly she frowned, “Oh, what do you want for dinner tonight?”

“Hey, how about letting me make dinner?”

“You want to cook?”

He laughed, “What? Don’t think I can?”

She stared into his eyes, “I have no idea if you can cook. I really don’t know a lot about you.”

While he realized what she said was true this was something he was afraid to discuss, there were too many secrets. “You know Rex likes me, you know I’m a writer, you know…”

She held up her hand to silence him. “I know what you’ve told me. I also know there is a lot you haven’t told me.”

He struggled for some way to change this subject. “Lucy, I’m just a guy trying to figure a lot of shit out.”

She nodded slowly, “Yeah, I know. How’s that going for you?”

God, he hated himself at that moment because he realized it wasn’t going well at all. He’d come here looking for answers but as of yet he feared he’d only made matters worse for himself and for her.

Suddenly Lucy smiled, “Let’s go.” In her mind she just wanted to enjoy the time they had together. She wouldn’t allow herself to believe this could ever be more than just a brief fling. He’d grow tired of this place, and then he would move on.

Relief coursed through his body. “Yeah, should we take the radio?”

“Suppose we could.”

He looked over at the table where the weather radio sat. “I don’t like that voice.”

She laughed, “Yeah, it’s pretty annoying.”

Together they left the kitchen to head out to the barn.

When Mikey returned he was frowning. “She’s not answering again.”

“Did you leave a voice mail?” His wife asked as he sat down next to her.

He nodded, “Yeah, for all the good it will do. Lindsey doesn’t want to talk to us.”

Alicia looked over at Ray. “What exactly is Karli saying?”

Ray sighed looking very uncomfortable. “Well she posted a few photos of her and Gerard.”

Mikey spoke up quickly, “Yeah, we saw.”

“And some of her comments sound bad, I mean she’d making it sound like she and Gerard are really close.”

“So what’s she saying about Lindsey?”

“She called her bitter for one thing. Said that Lindsey let her go for no reason and how much she misses being around Gerard and Bandit.”

“Can’t anything be done?” Alicia asked looking over at Mikey, “Didn’t she sign a contract preventing her from discussing anything about them?”

Mikey sighed, “Since Lindsey is the one who hired her I don’t know if they ever made Karli sign anything.”

“We really need to talk to Lindsey.”

He nodded, “Yeah, you’re right but what can we do?”

Ray shook his head sadly, “This could really get out of control fast.”

“I’m sure that’s already happening.” Alicia guessed.

“This is great.” Gerard said leaning back against a small hay bail. “And much cooler than before.”

Lucy took a seat on the hay next to him. “Yeah, much cooler.”

For several minutes they watched the lightening enjoying the spectacular light show before their eyes.

“Sounds weird I suppose.” Lucy said softly, “But the storms here are one of my favorite things. Not the violent storms but just thunder storms. I love the lightning.”

Gerard agreed, “Yeah, I can see why.” He said as another bright flash went straight down to the ground followed by a clap of thunder. “Storms much closer now.”

Lucy leaned back beside him. “Yep, should start raining any minute.”

He rolled his head slightly to look at her. “Lucy do you think fate brought us together?” While he believed that with all his heart he wanted to know how she felt.

She looked over at him. “I think a tornado brought us together.”

“But the tornado was fate.”

She smiled slightly, “You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“It wasn’t the wrong place.” He said slowly, “If I hadn’t come up your road and started to turn around in your driveway….”

“We don’t know what would have happened.” She said turning to look back out at the storm.

“You know that’s not true. I couldn’t have outrun the tornado in my car.”

She sighed, “Things happen all the time if you’re lucky you make it though if not…” She closed her eyes a moment, “And sometimes you make it though even though you don’t want to.”

He reached for her hand but she quickly snatched it away.

“Lucy”

“Not going to talk about it.” She said without looking at him. “Don’t even think for one minute you can change my mind.”

“Okay” He said sadly.

She heard what she believed was hurt in his voice. “There are things I keep buried for a reason. I have to in order to try and go on. Can you understand that?”

He nodded, “Yeah, I guess I can.”

Fearing the darkness that lay just beneath the surface of her existence would surface she forced herself to smile, “So what do you want to do tomorrow?”

He understood she wanted to change the subject. “Maybe you could teach me how to drive that truck?”

Her emotions were so raw at the moment that his suggestion was taken wrong. “Yeah, then you’d have a way to escape this place.”

Gerard sat up. “What?”

“Well you must be getting pretty tired of this farm. Can’t say I blame you. If you learn to drive the truck you can at least head into town. Work on getting your car replaced.”

“I’m not tired of this farm, I don’t want to escape.”

She crossed her arms trying not to release the anger she was feeling. But always in the back of her mind she knew he’d be leaving someday soon and the fact that she didn’t want that to happen was causing the anger. She tried to convince herself that his leaving would be a good thing. Once he did her life would go back to the way it had been before, empty and meaningless. “Shit.” She whispered realized she’d just admitted to herself the truth, her life was empty and meaningless.

“What?” Gerard was staring at her trying to understand the look on her face.

“Nothing.” Lucy said shaking her head.

“Come on.” He coaxed, “Tell me what’s going on in your mind.”

“You don’t want to know.” Her voice was now full of anger, not at him but at herself.

“Yeah, I do. I want to understand you.”

“Why?” She said sitting up. “What difference could understanding me possible make to you? I told you before and I’ll say it again. There will never be anything between us, nothing that really matters. So why the fuck can’t we just enjoy this short time we have together without getting all deep?”

“Because I care about you.” He whispered.

“No” She stood abruptly, “No, don’t.”

Gerard stood grabbing her shoulders. “You might not want me to care but I do.”

“That’s your problem.” She said wanting her words to push him away.

For a moment they stared at each other then Gerard pulled her into his arms. She tried to fight her way out of his embrace but he held tight. He wanted desperately to kiss her was afraid if he did she’d completely withdraw. The more time he spent with her the more he was beginning to understand. She did care about him but that fact was one she was fighting. So for now, until he could finally break through the walls she’d placed to protect her emotions, this was what they had. He leaned down and whispered in her ear.

“Right now you’re sexy as hell and I want you.”

His words caused her to stop struggling.

He loosened his hold on her then stepped back. “Haven’t changed your mind about enjoying each other while we can, have you?”

God, help her she wanted to feel something, anything. For so long she’d moved through her life going through the motions of everyday life like a zombie. She wanted to once more feel alive. “No, I haven’t changed my mind about that.” She said slowly feeling her heart begin to race.

“Good” he took a step closer. “Cause I’ve always wanted to do it in a hay loft.” He saw her tongue dart out to lick her bottom lip. “Undress for me.”

This was what she needed, the chance to shut off her mind and simply let her body react. As Gerard took a seat on the hay bale his eyes were on her. He watched as she slipped the tee over her head then removed her bra. Soon her jeans and panties were lying in a heap next to those items.

“Nice” He whispered. “Just wish there was more light.” The early evening was growing darker by the minute.

“I could get a lantern”

He shook his head, “No, I don’t want you to move.”

Another flash of lightning brought a smile to his face. The sight of her nude body illuminated by the bright flash was prefect.

A cool breeze announcing the rain caused her to instinctively cross her arms over her chest.

“No” He said forcefully. “Don’t cover yourself.”

Her arms dropped to her sides.

“Come here.”

She slowly walked towards where he sat. When she was close enough he reached out to brush his fingers down her stomach. “You have a beautiful body.”

She was looking straight ahead to a spot over his head.

Try as he might to ignore it he hated how she turned off her emotions. He wanted to see the passion in her eyes. “Lucy what are you thinking?’

“Not thinking” She admitted, “Don’t want to think just feel.”

Her honest answer made it easier to accept her actions. “Well you’re gonna feel a lot and soon. Is that what you want?” His finger trailed down her stomach to the V of her legs.

“Yes.” She whispered.

He’d glanced up to look at her face when another bright flash of lightning illuminated the interior of the barn. What he saw just beyond her gave him an idea. Standing up he brushed past her. “This is perfect.”

Lucy turned to see him pulling on a rope suspended from the rafters.

He pulled again. “Nice and strong. Perfect.”

“What?” Her imagination was already running wild with thoughts of what he might be thinking.

Since she was so short he pulled a hay bale over then smiled, “Come here.”

There was no way her body would let her deny his command.

He took her hand to help her up onto the hay bale. “Lift your arms.”

“Gerard” Suddenly she wasn’t sure.

“Lift your arms.” He said more forcefully this time.

Slowly she lifted her arms, as soon as they were over her head he grabbed her wrists bringing them together. Lucy inhaled sharply when she felt the rope being wrapped around her wrists.

Gerard secured it tightly then stood back. “Yeah, I like.”

“I…”

“Shut up.” He barked silencing her. However a moment later he whispered in her ear. “You want to feel. I’m gonna make you feel but I’d never harm you. You believe that don’t you?” He stepped back to look into her eyes.

She nodded.

He smiled, “Good. But sometimes pain and pleasure go together.”

Her whole body trembled.

“Are you scared of me?”

“No” She said staring into his eyes, “I fear nothing.”

Sadly he realized the truth in those words.

Lucy saw the indecision in his eyes. Whatever he had planned her body wanted. “So what are you going to do?” She asked in a taunting manner. “Just stare at me?”

His eyes flashed with desire. “No, I’m gonna make you scream.”

Again her body trembled with anticipation. “You can try.”

Gerard knew she was taunting him. “Oh, you’ll scream, Lucy. You’re gonna scream begging me to fuck you hard.”

Her breasts were heaving now. “Dream on.”

He laughed, “We’ll see.” Slowly he walked around her. Lucy tried to turn her head. “Look straight ahead.” He shouted as he delivered a solid smack to her bare ass.

Her head snapped back around.

“That’s better” He whispered leaning near her ear as his fingers caressed the spot he’d just struck.

Lucy’s fingers wrapped around the rope to help her remain steady.

“Changed my mind. Where’s the lantern?”

“By the truck.” She answered.

“Be right back.” He said but as he moved past her he tweaked her nipple.

Lucy closed her eyes listening as he went down the ladder. When she heard him returned she saw he already had the lantern lit.

“Much better.” He said sitting it down not far from where she stood on the hay bale.

Lucy looked over. “Uh, if anyone goes by….”

Gerard laughed, “The only other humans I’ve seen here were the power company workers today. You know as well as I do no one is gonna drive by.”

“But if they did…”

“I’m not going to close it.” He said, “I like the way the cool breeze is making your body react.” He stepped closer to cup one breast. “Yeah, I like it a lot.”

Lucy’s eyes fluttered shut as his thumb roughly rubbed her nipple.

“Don’t close your fuckin’ eyes.” He said pinching the nipple hard.

Her eyes flew open.

“Don’t you dare close your eyes again. Understand?”

She nodded.

“Good.” Again he walked around her but this time he removed his tee before pressing his chest against her back. His arms came around so his hands could cup her breasts. “You like that?”

“Yes” She moaned leaning back slightly.

Immediately he removed his hands. “Stand still. Don’t lean. I decide when your body gets to feel.”

Lucy took a deep breath.

Again his hands cupped her breasts. For several minutes he gently caressed until he heard her softly moaning then stopped. “You’re enjoying that way too much.”

“That’s your fault.” She muttered.

A sharp slap on her ass was his response. “You’re mouthy and I’m tired of it. I don’t want to hear you speak unless I tell you to.”

As much as her body wanted this she snapped, “You’re enjoying this aren’t you?”

For a moment she was afraid her words had made him stop. However when he ran his fingers down her sides she knew he had no intension of stopping.

“Yeah, I am.” He whispered, “And so are you.” To illustrate his point his hand pushed between her legs. “You’re so fuckin’ wet.”

The moan was something she couldn’t control.

As before his hand was quickly pulled away.

“Damn you.” She spat.

Gerard swatted her ass again. “Silence.”

She closed her mouth biting back an angry retort.

“That’s better” He cooed into her ear. “Just be a good girl and soon you’ll feel more than you could ever imagine.”

He walked back around to face her. “Now if I remember correctly down at the creek so did something and I need to return the favor.”

Lucy’s eyes grew wide as he reached down, carefully settled her legs further apart on the hay bale then sat down between them.

“Just right.” He said leaning forward slowly to bury his face between her legs.

She tightened her hold on the rope as his tongue slowly slid down her wet slit.

“You taste as good as you look.” His words vibrated against her skin.

“Oh” She threw back her head.

This time he didn’t reprimand her because he was too busy licking and sucking. Just when the feeling was building he leaned back.

“Tell me what I’m doing.”

Lucy’s eyes were glazed, “What?”

“Say it.”

Her breathing was rough as she struggled to catch her breath. “I don’t understand.”

Gerard was fighting his own urges so he snapped. “Say it Lucy. Be graphic.”

She just wanted to feel his tongue on her again. “You’re making me feel good?”

He smiled up at her. “Sugar, I’m eating your pussy. Your hot, wet pussy. Now say it.”

Using words she’d never imagined using before she whispered, “You’re eating my pussy.”

“Yeah, I am and it tastes so fuckin’ good.”

A jolt coursed though her body when he once more placed his mouth on her. He ran both of his hands up her legs slowly then used his finger to pry her open. Lucy moaned loudly. “Yes”

The tip of his tongue entered her wet hole causing her body to shake.

“Don’t stop.” She felt like screaming but couldn’t.

A moment later when he sat back Lucy saw her juices running down his chin.

“Had to stop.” He said carefully moving from between her legs. “Don’t want you to come yet.”

“Why?” She moaned in fustigation.

“Not yet.” He said as he moved to stand behind her.

She heard a rustling of clothing and tired to look behind her.

“Eyes straight ahead.”

Her arms were aching, the rope cutting into her writs. She welcomed the pain, she wanted more.

“Good girl.” He whispered into her ear as he pressed his nude body against hers. “That’s a very good girl.”

“Gerard, I need…”

His hand came up to press his finger against her lips. “I know what you need. But you need to be patient.”

“It’s hard.”

He laughed, “Hard? Do you mean hard to be patient or…” He pressed his dick against her ass. “This is hard.”

“Both” She panted.

He stepped back then walked around her again. Lucy’s eyes grew wide when she saw his dick was in his hand. She watched in growing fascination as he stroked it slowly. Gerard saw the look in her eyes. “You’ve never seen this before?”

“No” She whispered not taking her eyes off the sight of him stroking himself.

He moved his other hand to wipe some of the moisture from between her legs then using that hand he stroked his dick.

Lucy couldn’t tear her eyes away.

“Is this making you hot?’

She nodded.

He continued to stroke himself while looking into her eyes. “I’m getting ready.” He said his voice low and rough. “Trying to decide what to do.”

“What to do?”

“Yeah, should I finish myself off while I fuck you with my fingers or should I bury myself deep in your heat.”

“In me” She said without shame, “Bury yourself deep in me.”

His smile was slow, “Should I take you down first? Do your arms hurt?”

They hurt like hell but she loved it. “No, I want it this way. I want you to fuck me now, hard.”

He nodded, “Yeah, I want that too.” When he stepped up on to the hay bale he placed his hands under her ass to lift her. “Wrap your legs around me.” He ground out as his dick came in contact with her heat. As he thrust in hard he put his arms around her back just as she locked her heels behind him. “Fuck” He cried out.

Lucy leaned back slightly allowing him more room to thrust. When his hands moved down to her ass she leaned back even further. Suspended from the rope his thrusts were deep and hard. “Yes” She screamed. “Oh fuck” The orgasm hit just as she felt him empty into her. “Oh fuck” She whispered trying to catch her breath.

Gerard’s head fell forward on to her chest. Afraid his legs would give out he urged her to slowly lower her legs then he pulled out. Neither said a word as he reached out to untie her hands. However a moment later he was cursing.

“Damn it why didn’t you tell me how tight this was?” He asked as he struggled to untie the rope.

“Didn’t care” She whispered, her whole body was still humming.

Finally he got her wrists released and immediately her arms fell limp at her sides. Gerard helped her down off the hay bale. “Lucy…”

She shook her head, “I’m fine.” Then before he could stop her she turned off the lantern plunging them into darkness. Through the shadows he saw her lay down.

Slowly he lowered himself to lie next to her.

“I didn’t know...”

“Gerard” Her voice was sharp. “I told you I’m fine. That was…” Her voice trailed off and yet she wanted him to understand. “I’ve never done anything like that before in my life.”

He waited hoping she would go on.

“I loved every minute.” She whispered.

“Does that bother you?”

“No” She answered after a few moments. “It doesn’t.”

He reached out needing to touch her. When he gently laid his hand on her arm he was pleased when she allowed the touch. “I meant what I said I’d never purposely harm you physically.”

“I know that.” Her voice was gentle. “I told you, I do trust you.”

Her words caused guilt to wash over him. She shouldn’t trust him, he was a liar and a cheat. He was a married man with responsibilities he’d run from…

“Gerard?”

Her voice caused those thoughts to be pushed away. “Yeah?”

“Are you okay?”

At that moment he wished he could take her into his arms but knew if he did she’d withdraw. In Lucy’s mind this was strictly physical, nothing more. She feared anything more. “Yeah, sure I’m fine. Just trying to catch my breath.”

“Me too.” She stretched out trying to ease her aching muscles.

For several minutes they simply lay next to each other.

“Tomorrow I’ll teach you how to drive the truck.”

He rolled his head over wishing he could see her face clearly. “Don’t think it will be too hot?”

Lucy giggled, “Once again you just aren’t very observant. The truck actually has a working air conditioner.”

“What? Why the hell did we drive to Iola and back without turning it on?” He had seen it but had assumed it didn’t work.

She sighed, “Guess I was trying to change your mind.”

“About staying here?”

“Yeah, I was trying to make you see how much more comfortable a nice air conditioned motel room would be.”

He was happy she was being honest about her feelings on that matter. “So still want me to go?”

“I didn’t say I wanted you to go.” She answered quickly “But…”

Wanting to save the good mood she was in he spoke up quickly, “Well that’s good because I don’t want to go anywhere. Besides…” He gently squeezed her arm. “That motel room definitely wouldn’t have had a rope suspended from a beam.”

Her whole body heated again at the thought. “That’s true” She whispered. “That was fun.”

“Fun?” He teased.

She laughed, “Okay, fun, mind-blowing, hot… the list goes on and on.”

“Yeah it does.” He said softly, “It really does.”

Notes

Thanks so much for the comments. Big thanks to Blue to help me fall for the link to the history of Neosho Falls. As the story progresses I have several things to share about the town from my own personal experience. I even have a great antique real photo post card of the town from the early 1900’s and I will post a pic. It is sad to look at the photo and see how the town was once thriving then to look at the photos of how it looks today.

I was going to wait but decided to share one thing now. In 1988 the rock group Kansas did a concept album based around a ghost town…you guessed it, Neosho Falls. The first song on the album is beautiful and fits in with this story very well. It is titled “Ghosts”. You can find it here.

Again…thanks from the bottom of my heart for reading.
