You Only Hear the Music When Your Heart Begins to Break
The End.
Gerard’s POV:
I walked back over to my house at around two in the morning, with a grin on my face that was so huge it could make the angriest man in the world smile. For once in my life I finally had something stable. I finally had someone that cared as much about as I did about them. It was a feeling that was so fresh and new to me that I didn’t even know how to put it into words. I couldn’t even feel the thick cold air because I felt so warm inside. I walked over the threshold into my house. It was pitch black, my Mom was probably asleep and Mikey was probably in his room doing something weird. There was this one time where I walked in on him about to stick a fork in a toaster. My brother is so weird. I felt around the dark for the living room lamp and clicked it on so I could have some sort of light. The darkness in the room quickly disappeared. I made sure to move slowly and quietly to the kitchen, so I wouldn’t wake my Mother. I flicked the light on in the kitchen and darted for the pantry grabbing bag of sun chips and a coke. I quickly turned both lights up and walked up to my room. I lay on my bed with a huge grin on my face.
“Hey Gerard, when do you get back?” Mikey poked his head into my room.
“When does anyone get back from anywhere Young Michael? Why even ask? Just live life without question?” I sighed in happiness.
“Oh shit, no. Not this again!” Mikey said as he made his way into the room.
“What, can’t I be happy to see my little brother?” I stared at the ceiling, slowly putting sun chips in my mouth.
“So how did it go with Rachel, I am figuring this is the reason you are oh so happy.” I could hear the uninterested tone his voice, but I didn’t care.
“It was wonderful Young Michael; one day when you find someone you love so much that your own heart hurts you will understand.” I could hear the words coming out of my mouth, but I wasn’t saying them. It was a beyond weird feeling.
“Gerard, I have my girlfriend Laura; who I love very much I might add. If this the way loving someone makes you I would rather you go back to asshole Gerard.” He chuckled and sat down in the rolling chair he had injured himself on a few nights ago.
But Mikey did have a point. I needed to snap out this strange way I was being.
“Fuck dude, you’re right. But I am just so happy that it just happens sometimes.” I sat up on my bed taking a sip of my coke.
“So besides it being wonderful, what happened?” Mikey asked sounding a little more intrigued.
“She said it.” Was the only thing I managed to get out of my mouth, probably because I still didn’t know how to react?
“She said it?” Mikey looked at my confused. He always never got things right away.
“Really Mikey?’ I cocked my eyebrow and just waited for the pieces to fall together in his head.
“OHHH! She said she loved you!” Mikey exclaimed. “Dude that’s great!” I could tell he was genuinely happy for me.
“Thanks man.” I was really glad he was happy, especially since we weren’t on the best terms a few weeks ago.
“Just don’t fuck it up again. I really like Rachel, and I would like her to stick around.” I heard the sudden sincerity in his tone.
“Believe me I won’t. Not this time.” I looked him the eyes. I meant every word I had said, I had no intention of ruining the best thing that I had ever walked into my life.
Rachel’s POV:
What the fuck just happened, my heart was beating so fast as I walked into my room. I couldn’t believe it. I could not believe that I had just uttered those three words to Gerard. It was insane how three little words could mean so much to someone. I did love him though, I don’t know how he managed to yank it out of me, but he did. I was actually grateful. What I felt with Gerard was nothing like I had felt with Chase. I didn’t know real love with Chase. I was so scared of my feelings for Gerard because I didn’t know what they were. But now I know, I know that it’s love. I couldn’t be anymore happier.
“I need a cigarette.” I muttered to myself rummaging through my drawers for the pack I had hidden from my parents. They hated smoking and they would kill me if they ever knew.
I climbed out onto the ledge on my roof and sparked it up. The wind made it difficult to light but I finally got it to light and breathed the smoked into my lungs.
“Well what’s up?” I heard Gerard’s voice and it caused me to look across the way.
I should have guessed that he would be out here.
“I am convinced that you are following me.” I chuckled lightly and smirked at him.
“But really you’re the one following me.” He smirked devilishly back.
I noticed how handsome he truly was, his porcelain white skin seemed to shine in the moonlight and was contrasted by his dark raven hair. Even though Gerard wasn’t right in front of me I could see the glisten in his eyes and I could see a changed person. When I first met Gerard his eyes were empty and dark. But now they were full and shined bright in the night sky.
“You really are different now aren’t you?” I felt my tone change.
“I am.” He said shyly.
“Why? It couldn’t have all been because of me, I know you said it was, but I just can’t grasp that
I could change someone.” I was confused, but I really didn’t understand how I could have done something like that.
“But it was all you. Even though you didn’t wanna see me at all for a while, even though I had hurt so badly, you still loved me. Even when your refused to admit it, and it was that love that you had for that made me knew I could be a better person. Because deep down, I mean really deep down you knew I could do it.” He spoke, and as each word came out of his mouth I became more and more speechless.
“I love you Gerard. So much.” I beckoned back to him from my roof top as I inhaled the last of my cigarette.
“I love you too Rachel, I will never let you down ever again.” He smiled back.
I would remember tonight for the rest of my life. Tonight was the night where I had found love, a great love. A love with a person who constantly made my heart soar. I couldn’t believe that I could be so lucky. I didn’t know what the future held for Gerard and I, I didn’t know if we would be together long, if we would get married, and have kids. But I did know that in this moment that I loved Gerard, I loved him with all my heart. I didn’t need to look into the future because I had everything that I needed in this moment and that was all that mattered. So I would never forget our night on our rooftops, ever.
