You Only Hear the Music When Your Heart Begins to Break
I Did It All So Maybe I'd Live This Everyday
Rachel’s POV:
Friday had to be my favorite day of the week. But then again, Friday was probably every angst filled teenager’s favorite day. Regardless it was finally the weekend. This meant parties and not worrying about a certain boyfriend who had confessed his love for me; who I haven’t spoken to in three days I might add. I wasn’t mad at Gerard or anything; I was still just really confused. This weekend would be just what I needed to sort things out. At least that’s what I was telling myself. I was just finishing getting ready and waiting for Laura to pick me up. She didn’t tell me exactly what we were doing, but she just told me to be ready around eight, so I was. I looked at myself in the mirror; my auburn hair rested just past my shoulders and was curled perfectly. Damn, I loved that I had bought that wand, it was the best thing I could ever done for my hair. My makeup seemed to just agree with my face today, usually it takes me half an hour to put it on because my eyeliner never cooperates. But today the light wings I always try to do seemed to look amazing. I smiled proudly at myself for actually accomplishing being a girl today.
“Honey Laura is here!” My Mom beckoned from downstairs.
I grabbed my golden brown cardigan and headed out of my room and down the stairs.
“Hey!” I greeted Laura happily as slipped on my toms.
“Ready to go?” she replied as she twirled her keys around her finger.
“Yes ma’am! Bye Mom!” I waved.
“See ya Mrs. Waters!” Laura smiled at my Mom as we walked out the door.
“So what exactly are we doing tonight?” I asked as we climbed into Laura’s green jeep.
“Ah, you know…stuff.” She smiled strangely.
“Oh okay?” I said confused as we pulled out of my driveway.
I couldn’t help and look over to Gerard’s driveway. I noticed his car wasn’t there and wonder where he was.
“I gotta go by Frank’s and pick something up before the festivities begin.” She raised her eyebrows at me and turned up her stereo.
We jammed out to Make Damn Sure on the way to Frank’s. It ended perfectly as we pulled into his driveway. I absolutely loved when songs ended when I got to my destination.
I got out of the car with Laura and noticed Gerard’s car was here.
“Shit.” I muttered.
“What?” Laura stopped walking and turned to face me.
“Gerard’s here.” I said quickly and darted my eyes towards the pavement where clumps of melted snow resided.
“Seriously Rachel? What are you five? He is still your boyfriend.” Laura huffed and kicked some of the melted snow towards me.
“Don’t do that!” I scuffed. “I just haven’t spoken to him, I just don’t want him to be mad at me, ya know?” I kicked the remnants of snow between my feet.
“I will only be here for five minutes, just come in and say hey.” She urged and grabbed my hand pulling me to the front door of Frank’s house.
I just groaned like a child as she rang the doorbell. Frank quickly appeared in the door with a big smile on his face. I hadn’t really seen Frank either in the past week. I knew he would know exactly what to say in this situation but our relationship has changed since I have been back with Gerard. Not in a bad way. We just both knew that space was best for our future friendship right now.
“Hey guys! Come in!” Frank ushered us in excitedly.
As I walked into the house I didn’t see Gerard at all, but I did see a brown haired girl fiddling with her fingers on the couch.
“Oh, you guys this is Walker by the way.” Frank introduced us.
“Hey, I’m Rachel.” I smiled friendly and shook Walker’s hand as she got up from the couch. I had no idea who she was, and Frank wasn’t being clear about it either.
“Hey I’m Laura!” she practically screamed at Walker. I forget how loud Laura must sound to people who don’t really know her. I guess I have just gotten used to her loudness.
“It’s nice to meet you guys.” Walker smiled, and her lightly freckled face wrinkled up a bit.
After we all said our hellos it was deathly quiet. We all just stood in a circle not really making eye contact.
“Uhhrmm.” Frank cleared his throat loudly and looked at Laura.
“OH!” Laura suddenly exclaimed. “Right.” She then muttered quietly to herself. “So
Frank do you have that thing I came to get for the thing tonight that I need that thing for.” Laura spat out her sentence quickly.
I looked at her confused and she just shot me back a half smile and shrugged her shoulders.
“Uh yeah, it’s upstairs in my room. Walker and Laura come with me and get it.” He gestured as he started walking up the stairs.
“Oh so I don’t get to come.” I laughed.
“No, you keep watch.” Frank winked at me and continued up the stairs.
“Keep watch for what.” I mumbled to myself.
I sat down on Frank’s couch and still hadn’t seen Gerard, I was puzzled as to why his car was even outside if he wasn’t here. I could feel a chill start to infest my skin. Frank’s house was always freezing. I just sat and messed on my phone waiting for the three to return.
“What’s up?” I heard a voice no other than Gerard’s say softly.
“I- uh.” Once again I froze up as I looked up to see the angel faced man that was my boyfriend in front of me. It was pretty sad that I couldn’t say anything to him.
“Really? You’re still broken.” He sighed. “Well we are gonna fix that tonight.”
“What do you mean by that?” I managed to form a question.
“He means that you are going on a date!” Frank smiled as he rushed down the stairs.
“And not just any date, a double date with Walker and I!” he walked over to Gerard and nudged him.
“What, we can’t. Laura and I have plans.” I said firmly. I didn’t wanna go on a date tonight, especially not a double date with my boyfriend who I could barely say two words too and Frank who I let down constantly with my inability to choose the good guy, and his date who I didn’t even know existed. It all just sounds like a nightmare to me.
“Oh that reminds me. Laura you work here is done.” Gerard winked and smile at me deviously.
“What! You were in on this? Wait that’s a stupid question, of course you were in on this.
I should have known better.” I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.
“And I love you for your gullible nature.” Laura smiled widely and started walking towards the door.
“What happened to five minutes tops?” I said sarcastically.
“I never said you were gonna be here for five minutes. I said I was gonna be here for five minutes.” She said slyly. “Now if you all will excuse me I have my own date to attend.” She gracefully let herself out with a smile on her face for being so clever.
“Thank for nothing!” I beckoned as the door shut.
“Now we are all gonna have a fun evening!” Frank said determined as he pulled out a stack of movies.
“Ah dude House on Haunted Hill I love that movie. We are watching this.” Gerard fist pounded Frank as he looked through the collection.
Frank smiled as he made his way into the kitchen with Gerard to make some popcorn. I was glad we were watching movies, that way I didn’t have to speak. I can’t lie and say I haven’t felt guilty for neglecting Gerard lately, because I have. This whole feeling sorry for myself for being incapable to return love thing was really starting to annoy me. So the more I thought about it, the more I was actually kind of glad that I was tricked into this.Walker came over and sat next to me on the couch. I was not about to sit through another awkward silence today, so I tried to start a conversation.
“So how do you know Frank?” I asked, turning towards her.
“Oh we met at Bob’s New Year’s party.” She smiled lightly. “What about you?” she returned the question.
“He was one of my first few friends here.” I smiled realizing how grateful I was for Frank’s friendship. I kept it short and simple too, because lord knows this poor girl doesn’t need to know about my weird triangle situation with the two of them.
“All right let’s start this sucker.” Gerard said as he and Frank reappeared into the room.
“Yeah!” Walker said excitedly.
Frank popped the movie and sat on the floor, Walker moved herself to sit next him, and Gerard came and sat next to me on the couch. I could feel myself get insanely nervous. But I embraced it and let the night take its course, because as usual this night was going to be anything but boring.
