A Little's Enough
coffee.
“You know you’ll still be welcome here whenever you’d like, right?” Nancy smiled warmly at me.
“Thank you Nancy. I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me. I don’t know what I would have done without you and October. Thank you for making me feel so at home.” I was trying my hardest not to cry, I’d done enough of that the night before with October.
“Like we’ve been telling you Teigann, you’re a Sider now. “ She wrapped her arms around me in a motherly hug and kissed the top of my head. “If you need anything, you just let us know okay?”
I nodded in response, not trusting my voice to come out steady enough.
Within a few minutes, there was a knock at the door and I knew that it was Gerard, come to pick up me and my belongings. My heart raced, I couldn’t believe it was actually happening. Mr. and Mrs. Way inviting me into their home during their absence was a huge deal to me. My own parents had never shown me such concern, such kindness and so it was overwhelming to have it come from my boyfriend’s parents. It seemed to be a common theme in my life over the last few months- parental concern and love coming from everyone’s parents but my own.
I gave Nancy one more hug, and told October I’d see her later before exiting the Sider house one more time.
Gerard had the biggest grin on his face when I walked out the door. “Good morning sugar, you ready for today?”
“Mhmm, I think so.” I gave him a small smile, followed by a short kiss. “You’re sure this is all okay? It kind of feels like a dream, like it couldn’t possibly be real.” I laughed.
“Oh it’s real, and it’s perfectly alright. Mikey has been up for the last hour, making coffee and making sure the house is semi-clean for your arrival.” Gerard smiled.“He’s excited to have a new roommate. Plus, if you’re at our house more often, October will be too and that’ll make him extra happy."
The house was quiet when we arrived, I thought maybe Mikey had crashed again, it was unusual for him to be up so early to begin with. Since I only had two bags of my things with me at Octobers’, moving my things to the Way house was pretty quick and easy. Once we brought my things up to Gerard’s room, I decided I was in desperate need of some caffeine.
“Hey Gee, I’m gonna go get some coffee, you want a cup?” I smiled over at him, trying to organize things in the ‘spare’ room so that I could keep my stuff in there.
“Sounds great. I promise this shouldn’t take too much longer, then we can do whatever you want.” He stopped long enough to wrap me in his arms and place a kiss on my cheek.
“Depending on if the coffee does its job or not, a nap might be in order.” I blushed a bit. I’d been so nervous the night before that I really hadn’t slept very well. I gave him a grin and rushed downstairs.
“Hey roomie!” I was greeted by Mikey as I entered the kitchen.
“Hey Mikes.” I smiled. “I thought you went back to bed.”
“Nope, I think I was in the shower when you guys got in. I didn’t want to bother you too much while you were getting your stuff settled. Was Boo up when you left?” He readjusted his glasses.
“Mhmm, although chances are she went back to bed for a bit. How are you even awake right now?” I laughed. He was almost never awake before noon, and it was only like 10:30am.
“I’m really not sure.” He grinned that crooked grin of his. “Maybe I’ll go surprise her and wake her up.”
“You do that Mikes, I’m sure she’d love it. She won’t kill you at all.” My sarcasm was heavy, my smile was ridiculous. “Glad to be here with you guys Mikes, I’ll see you a little later.” I grabbed the two cups of coffee and headed back upstairs.
It felt good to be home.
