A Little's Enough
nerves.
Gerard’s POV
I wanted to go get Teigann as soon as I woke up, but I knew I had to wait. My mom’s suggestion to have her over for dinner surprised me, but I was hopeful that Teigann would accept the offer. While things between us probably seemed super intense to people who didn’t know us, they were second nature to us. Everything felt so natural to us. We’d only actually known each other for a little under 6 months, and we’d started to date just a few months ago.
It was like I had told her on her birthday, it felt like we’d known each other in another life or something. It seemed so crazy, but we had made a connection with each other so quickly when we met though, so it was the only explanation I had. I wanted to spend the rest of my days with this girl. I knew this and understood it better than anything else I’d ever known.
It was a pretty peaceful drive over to October’s. Teigann had said that the only condition to her coming over was that she had to keep her phone on in case October needed an escape plan from her fathers. I knew that from October it was a joke, with a small bit of truth. Of course, when I mentioned this to Mikes, he instantly got worried. I had told him not to worry, that if it came to it he could take my car and go get her. This seemed to put his mind at ease.
The car ride back to my place with Teigann was mostly quiet, we listened to the radio which she had turned to a station playing all Christmas music. I had laughed, but didn’t attempt to change it on her. I loved seeing her smiling face, I didn’t want to make it stop. When ‘Last Christmas’ came on, she began to sing along, and I made side glances, grinning like a fool at her. It took her a few moments to catch on that I was looking at her and she blushed, but didn’t stop singing.
When we pulled into my driveway, I turned the car off, but didn’t budge to exit the car.
“Thank you.” I turned to look at her. I wasn’t sure what she was thanking me for.
“You’re welcome? I’m not sure what you’re thanking me for.” I laughed. “I should be thanking you, I’ve been wanting to come get you all day, and when you called to tell me you were coming for dinner you made my day. It’s the best Christmas present.” I sounded like a total goof, but I didn’t care.
“Did you open your actual gift yet?” She bit her lip, looking a bit nervous.
I shook my head. “I wanted to wait until I saw you today. I wanted to give you yours at the same time.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” She blushed.
“But I wanted to.” I smiled, despite the fact that I was wrecked with nerves about giving her the gift I‘d picked. “We should get inside, it’s getting cold sitting here.” I changed the subject and unbuckled my seat belt, moving to get out of the car before her voice stopped me.
“You’re sure it’s okay that I’m here?” She asked quietly.
“Sugar, it’s perfect that you’re here, okay? Mom wanted you here.” I answered reassuringly.
“Alright.” With that, she started to get out of the car as well.
