Descent Into Madness
Chapter 1. Perfect Beginnings For Not-So-Perfect People
“Well… it all started that summer, the day I came back… 1995… Ray told you I was someone at the door, asking to use the phone…” I began, watching the two as they got swept into my story. “That was the day I met… him…” I wistful smile spread over my face, “Do apologize to him for me…?”
I hadn’t been home for two years now. I missed Ray, and I especially missed my baby brother Mikey. I was also quite eager to meet this friend of theirs. Frank. That was the name that they told me to call him. They told me that he was like me. Mikes said that we’d get along really well.
I knocked on the front door, three solid knocks, before pushing my hand through my matted hair. Ray swung the door open and smiled at me, “Whatcha want, stranger?” I could see by the goofy way he was looking at me that he was joking.“C’mon, let me in, fuck face.” I told him.
“Who is it, Ray?” I heard Mikey shout from inside the house.
“Some guy who wants to use the phone!” Ray shouted back. I shoved him gently and scowled playfully at my friend.
Mikey shuffled out of the kitchen, “Well tell them to go fu- Oh my god! Gerard!” He practically tackled me off the front stoop. “I was not expecting you! I haven’t heard from you in two god damn years! Why haven’t you called?” He shouted.
“M-M-Mikey?” A quiet voice came from the living room, and I saw a pair of big hazel eyes peering out at me over tattooed fingers. “I-is it the police? Or my dad?” The voice asked in a frightened tone.“No, Frank. It’s my big brother. Stop hiding you big lout!” Mikey said with a laugh. The owner of the voice, a short boy with long brown hair, big hazel eyes, and lots of tattoos, stood up straight from behind the couch.“H-hi…” The boy stammered, nervously twirling his thumbs, “Y-you’re Gerard, r-right?” He said, shuffling silently towards me. I put my hand out towards him, and he gently took it, shaking it a little. Instead of shaking his hand, I kissed the top of it, and I could see him blush furiously. Mikey was scowling at me from behind him.
“Yes, that would be me. I’m Gerard.” I said, a smile ghosting acrossed my chapped lips. “You must be Frank.”He nodded shyly, and removed his hand from mine before going to hide behind the couch again. I laughed a little, and walked into the house, “Mikes, you need to clean up. I’m going to get sick.” I grimaced a little as I looked around the house.
“No, You’re just a hypochondriac, Gerard.” Ray replied. “You think I’m a hypochondriac? That makes me sick!” I said.
The people around me laughed and I sighed, “Shut up, would you?” I said, laughing a little myself as well.
Frank was the only one not laughing. He was just staring at me from the couch, peering at me like a wide-eyed meerkat.“I’m starved.” I said. My voice caused Frank to flinch.
Ray smiled at me, “Come into the kitchen, and I’ll make you something to eat.” He said, taking my wrist, and leading me into the kitchen. Mikey stayed out in the living room, and he crossed the floor to speak with Frank.
I could hear them speaking quietly, “My brother is friendly, I promise.” I could hear Mikey tell the younger boy.I could picture his little frame shaking for some reason as I heard the next words he said, “Can I… Can I meet him?”
I heard Mikey snort, “Of course!” He said. I could almost see the big grin on his face that I heard in his voice.
Moments later, Mikey and Frank joined us in the kitchen. Frank was clinging to Mikey’s side and he stared at me intently. “Can we talk..?” He asked me curiously.Another smile ghosted across my lips, and I opened my mouth to speak, but my mom entered the kitchen, “Gerard! You didn’t tell me you were coming home!” The pretty brunette woman’s squealing was insufferable.“Hey mom.” I greeted, giving Caroline a big hug.
She ruffled my hair, and stepped away, before turning to Frank and saying, “Frankie, honey, I picked up your medicine, and I need you to take it.”Frank folded his arms, “No.” He said bluntly.Caroline frowned, “Frankie, you have to take it.” She said.Frank shook his head, “I don’t want to!” He said in the loudest voice I’ve heard him use, just a little over a normal volume.
Mikey took his arm and looked Frank in the eye, “Frank, you need to take the pill.” Mikey pushed, quietly.
Frank looked to me, and then wormed out of Mikey’s grasp. Caroline almost moved to grab him, but didn’t when he came to me, grabbing my arm.Mikey got that angry look again, but said nothing.
I sighed quietly and looked around the room, My mom offered me the bottle of pills and I emptied one out on my hand, “Why wont you take the pill?” I prompted the little man grabbing my arm, watching him curiously.
He wiggled his nose at me before saying, “Because. I don’t like pills.” He sounded determined not to take the pill.
“Please take it?”
The little bitch then proceeded to bite me.
“Frank!” My mother and Mikey shouted in unison. Ray pulled the younger boy off of my arm, and forced him to swallow the pill.
I wrinkled my eyebrow and looked at my wrist. It was bleeding, “That little fucker has sharp teeth!” My mom shot me a glare, “Sorry.” I smiled a little and rubbed the back of my neck. “So… Food?” I asked.
Mikey sighed and nodded, going to the cabinet to get some food down for me to eat. He threw a can at me, and I caught it right before I got hit in the face. “Jeez! Are you trying to hit me!?” I snapped, glaring at my brother. He smiled at me then left the kitchen with Frank and Ray in tow. “What was his problem..?” I muttered.
Caroline laughed, “He’s nursing a bit of a crush on Frank, and he’s jealous that he’s so respondent to you.” She answered in a very matter-of-fact manner. I raised an eyebrow and smiled a little before opening the can of tomato soup and emptying the contents into a pot before getting milk, cheese, and bread.
Ten minutes later I joined my brother and his friends in the living room to eat. “Gee, could you get Frank something to eat as well?” Mikey asked the second I sat down. I sighed, and offered the soup and sandwich to the little man. He shook his head at me, “I’m a vegan…” He murmured. I stared at him incredulously, “What am I suppose to fix you, little man?” I asked. Mikey laughed, “He likes the soup we have on the third shelf in the pantry.” He answered for Frank. I stood up and walked back into the kitchen.
After I fixed more soup, I returned to the living room, and handed Frank the bowl. He smiled at me gratefully, and I sat down to eat my now cold food. I glared at Mikey as I ate. He was watching some stupid horror movie with Ray. I love horror movies, but I was, for some reason, in a very bad mood at the moment.
I was surprised to feel something in my lap. The feeling dragged me back to reality, and I saw Frank sitting in my lap, eating the crust I had picked off my sandwich. I raised an eyebrow and laughed lightly, “What are you doing?” I asked. “Eating.” He replied, leaning back against me, and yawning. I could feel Mikey’s glare bore into the back of my head. “Maybe you should get off of me.” I prompted. He got off my lap and sat next to me instead, leaning back between Mikey’s legs, which made my brother smile.
I liked seeing my brother smile. He had such a nice smile, but he never shows it, and it’s upsetting. He gently brushed Frank’s hair out of his face as they sat there together. It was kind of cute to be completely honest.
I looked at Mikey and Ray. They were half asleep. “Get up you two.” I said with a booming voice, They snapped upright, “We’ll continue this tomorrow… alright?” I mused, smiling a little. They nodded and shot to their feet, “Goodnight Gerard.” Ray said, before leading Mikey out so they could walk home.
I stayed here...

Notes
Okay, so the lay out of this story may be hard to follow. All chapters will have at least a little bit of the present, but sometimes it will be Gerard telling the story, other times it will be Mikey visiting Frank. Sorry if it's tricky.
Later lovelies!
