Three Cheers for Red Hair and Love

“Where are you taking me?!” Gerard interrogated.

“Wherever you live. You’re in no shape to get home yourself. No offense.” replied Frank. That smile is going to be the end of me, thought Gerard. He nodded graciously and walked alongside Frank in the direction of his home. After a long, silent walk the decrepit baby blue house where Gerard and his slut mother lived. He never saw her. She was always in her room with some strange man who regarded Gerard as nothing more than another man’s mistake, trying to feel something that wasn’t there.
“Well, here we are,” said Gerard, breaking the silence. He had learned long ago to stop being embarrassed by his mess of a house. Frank followed Gerard to the higher of the two steps leading up to the doorway. Gerard stopped, and fiddled with the rusty keys for a moment.

“Thank you, Frank. You’re the only person who would’ve done that for a freak like me.” And before Frank could respond, Gerard leaned in and kissed him, hard, on his soft thin pink lips.

The sudden closeness surprised Frank. He hadn’t even kissed before, much less with a boy. He couldn’t believe it. His first kiss was with a boy he just met that very day. But in a strange way he enjoyed it. This red-haired boy’s tongue running itself over the inside of his mouth, his lips sucking on his own. Gerard pulled away long before Frank was done with the kiss. His lips tingled and shivers went up and down his spine. Something deep inside had been lit. A fire within.

And Gerard looked les sad, maybe even happy. His eyes shone a little bit brighter than they had minutes earlier, and then aura of blackness around seemed to have turned into a nicer gray color.

“Thank you.” Then Gerard disappeared into the building. Frank was left bewildered on the walkway and walked home in a happy daze. A whole part of him had just been discovered. He had never understood his friends’ obsession with girls and breasts, and now he knew why. All thank to Gerard.
