My -High School- Romance
Chapter 14
narrator's POV
Mikey sighed, watching his cold breath float away in the winds infront of him. Why the fuck did he have to like Frank. The one guy he couldn't have. The one guy who actually made Gerard feel happy. Wow, he felt like such a dick. He had to go and ruin Gerard's life, didn't he? He just felt like shit.
"Hey, Mikey?"
He regained his focus, looking over. "Yeah, Gee?"
"Are you okay?" Gerard frowned. "Dude?"
Mikey knodded, uncertain. "I'll be fine." He regretted telling Gerard. It just made it so awkward.
"Somebody said that in order to get over someone you have to find someone better..." Gerard sighed. "... Or you'll just end up falling back on that crush whenever you're feeling lonely."
Mikey knodded. "Thanks, but I'm fine -really."
Gerard knudged Mikey in the ribs. "Aha I heard Pete's gay too." He seductively wiggled his eyebrows. "Or is he too emo even for you Mikey?" -to be honest, Gee felt there was some emo competition going on there.
Mikey forced a smile and shoved his hands in his pockets. "I'll try talk to him."
"Good."
"Hey! Emo faggot!"
Gerard turned around and stared for a second. Josh. "Mikey, go home."
"Wait, what?!" Mikey raised his voice. "I'm not going anywhere. What's wrong?"
"I said go home Mikey!" Gerard screamed at the top of his lungs, crossing the road to meet the boy.
Mikey hurried off, glancing back.
Gerard waited until he was fully around the corner before approaching the kid. "Hey, Josh. What the fuck did you say?"
"Oooh, language, Gerard." He cackled. "I see your... 'boyfriend', isn't here to protect you today?" He asked, looking around.
"No," Gerard said. "Gotta detention..."
"Shame- gotta hand it to him, he has a decent kick." Noticing Gerard's stern expression, Josh raised his fists over his face jokily. "C'mon then fag."
"Oh, you can fuck right off." Gerard murmured.
"Wow tough guy."
Nope.
Not a tough guy.
A very... VERY scared guy.
"Please, leave me alone-"
Gerard felt himself being thrown against the floor, redness filling his vision.
"Ow..."
A kick in his stomach.
"...Please..."
Another in his groin.
"...Stop." Gerard wheezed, clutching at his body, aching all over. He tasted blood in his mouth and felt his bruises rising. Gradually, Gerard felt his conciousness slip away gradually, his heavy thoughts pulling him under waves of sleep.
*****
"Hey, dude? Please, please please wake up..." Frank sat against Gerard on the hard ground, tears falling down his face. "Baby, wake up, PLEASE."
Gerard's eyelids fluttered a little, as he tried to speak out of his swollen throat. "I--"
"No, don't speak, it's fine." Frank looked over at Gerard's stomach, which was bloody and caked in mud. "Oh my god, what did he do to you?! You musta been here for an hour." Frank lifted up Gerard's tee and examined his wound. It was red, covered in greeny-purple bruises. "Oh-"
"I'm fine." Gerard said, sitting up. He winced at the pain of a stabbing feeling in his chest. "Ow, my ribs."
Frank knodded. "They're pretty bad. Hey, I'll drive you to the hospital."
"No." Gerard breathed. "No hospitals."
"Fine," Frank smiled, lifting Gerard to his feet and carrying him bridal-style into the car. "At least let me drive you someplace nicer than this dump."
Gerard sat against the window in the front seat of Frank's car, his eyes half open. "Frank...where..we.goin...go to..go? He groaned.
"You'll see," Frank grinned, accelerating. "First I gotta go home to pick up some meds for you."
Frank stopped at his house and got a box of non-perscription painkillers and bandages, which he insisted on putting them on Gerard himself, but Gerard enjoyed the attention even though it hurt a little when he put on the plasters. But, after a couple of minutes of nursing and messing around with the stitches -which Frank OBVIOUSLY had no idea how to use- he decided to set off in the car again.
"You hungry?"
Gerard knodded. Of course he was hungry - he barely ever ate a thing. No wonder he was so thin and fragile. He hurt all over, his organs rattling about with every turn Frank made.
"Okay." Frank swerved off the side of the road, making Gersrd jump. "Oops, that was sudden." He grinned.
'Shit, this guy has a driving license? How could anyone let him behind the wheel of a car.' Gerard forced a laugh. "Aha, yeah." He said, wiping the red liquid from his bloody smile.
"Wait here." Frank ordered, walking into the gas station outside where they had parked. "I'll get you some food."
Minutes later he came back with a couple packets of potato chips and beers.
"Well I see you brought a nutritional dinner?" Gerard joked, trying to ignore the aching in his chest with every breath he took.
Frank knodded. "Yep. They're POTATO chips, Gerard. Potatoes are vegetables." He laughed, throwing a bag over to Gee.
"Okay." Gerard laughed back, taking a bite from one.
"Okay," Frank said. "Letsa go."
"But where are we going?"
"Shhh..." He winked. "You'll see."
