My -High School- Romance

Gerard walked into school, exhausted, confused and miserable. He saw Frank, who greeted him with a big smile and a 'hello', but he kept on walking, a frown on his face. Frank followed him, dragging his feet behind him and trying to keep up.
"Gerard?" He asked, tapping him on the shoulder. "Was it Saturday? Did I do something wrong? Tell me, Gee!"
Gerard stopped walking and turned. "No." He stared into Frank's eyes. "I'm just -- thinking." He held his head in his hands and turned back around, walking off to lesson.
Oh my god, he thought. It was just terrible.
Gerard sighed and walked into class, his eyes passing Pete and Bob who gave him a polite wave. He knodded and sat down hastily. He was gonna hurl. He knew it. Gerard lay his head down on his desk and shut his eyes tightly.
It's going to be okay, it's going to be okay, it's going to be okay, it's going to be okay, it's going to be okay, it's going to be okay, oh dear lord it's not going to be okay.
His thoughts spiralled around his head as he squeezed his eyes tighter so that tears came out.
Oh dear lord. Oh no-
"Gerard? Gerard lift your head up, c'mon. Come on Gee."
Gerard lifted his head up and saw Frank's kind face smiling over him. "I'm fine, Frank. I promise." He looked around at the rest of the class, who had fallen silent and all turned to look at him.
"You're eyeliner's a bit smudged..." Frank licked his thumb and wiped off the makeup under Gerard's eye where his tears had dragged down the dark pencil around his eyes.
"Um, thanks."
Frank knodded. "It's fine. We'll talk at break, alright?"

At break Frank pulled Gerard behind the bikesheds -the same bikesheds where they had their second kiss- and sat him down.
"What was that about?"
"Sssh," Gerard whispered. "No one can know..."
Frank put his arms on his shoulders. "Know what Gerard? Tell me, please."
"Frank?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm so sorry, we can't be together."
Frank raised an eyebrow. "What?!" He said, raising his voice. "Are you breaking up with me? Gerard, we've been going together for like a week and already you're quitting on me?" He grip tightened a little on Gerard's shoulders, tears falling from his eyes. "Gerard, please tell me what I did wrong."
"No, Frank." Gerard sighed, wiping his eyes. "I really love you, I'm just saying that we can't."
"Why not Gerard?" Frank fell back on his knees. "What is it Gerard?"
Oh crap.
"I promised I wouldn't tell."
Frank looked at him with disbelief.
Gerard sighed. He didn't want to betray his brother, but he had to tell Frank. He sighed. "Mikey likes you."
"Oh."
Gerard covered his head with his hands. "Don't you fucking tell him I told you."
Frank knodded, kind of chuffed, but still concerned. "Gerard, is that it?"
Gerard knodded. "I can't compete with him, I know it. He's better: No anxieties, no depression, it's justbetter for you."
Frank shook his head. "No it's not, Gerard. I love you, and you alone." He placed his hand on Gerard's face.
"I love you too."
Frank ignored Gerard's reply. "But hey, you didn't tell me you were depressed, Gee."
Gerard's stomach sunk. Nobody likes depressed kids. Why would Frank even care about him anyways. He sighed. "You never asked."
Frank shook his head. "I'm sorry. But seriously, you gotta remember that I love you. 'Cause I do, Gee. I do. I'm not into Mikey, don't worry." He touched the side of Gerard's face. "Okay?"
Gerard knodded his head. "Alright."
