Burn Bright

The Truth

It had been two days since Mikey had been banished and Bandit hoped he was okay. She wanted to go out and look for him but Gerard had been keeping a close eye on her, making the simple task of leaving the cave nearly impossible. She couldn’t even look at her father without feeling anger towards the man, Bandit just couldn't understand why Gerard would banish Mikey, what had gotten him so upset?

She couldn't help but notice that Gerard had been avoiding Lindsay, whenever she would try and talk to him, Gerard would leave. When Bandit asked why, Lindsay just shook her head and muttered something incoherently under her breath. Bandit was confused, she had never seen her parents fight like this before.

Ryan tapped Bandits shoulder, “Bandit, your father went to talk with the elders. We might be able to get out. Now is the best chance we have.”
Bandit nodded, "Alright, let's go.”

Gerard walked into the small room in which the elders worked. Only five survived the attack on the village, they were important to the tribe, they were the only people who could come in contact with the ancestors, and they were great in medical emergencies because they knew how to mix herbs and plants to make ointments.

An elderly woman, whose name was Helena, smiled at Gerard fondly. Her white hair was pulled back in a long braid, and Gerard could see the faint signs of a burn on her hand. “Hello Gerard,” She said sweetly.

“Hello Helena, were you able to get in touch with our ancestors?” Gerard asked.

“Yes, we asked them about your situation,” Another elder stated, Gerard knew him by the name of Samuel. “They were disturbed about your decision to banish your brother. They are urging you to reconsider.”

Gerard shook his head, “I want to know the truth first, before I reconsider anything.”

Samuel sighed, “The ancestors are baffled as to why Bandit can change into a falcon, because she is your daughter Gerard. She is not Michael’s.”

Gerard felt sick to his stomach, a lump formed in his throat and he swallowed dryly, “Thank you,” he muttered, Gerard walked out of the room and out of the cave. Gerard felt awful, all the things he said to Lindsay…to his own brother. He had banished his own flesh and blood because he was to blind with fury. He didn't listen to anyone, because he felt so betrayed, when there was no betrayal. He was worried about his brother, God knows where he flew off too. Suddenly Gerard remembered that he bit Mikey’s arm, sadly this gave him hope…maybe Mikey hadn't gotten too far.

Mikey groaned in pain, his head was throbbing and his arms ached. Mikey slowly opened his eyes and saw that he was in a dimly lit room, the walls around him were made of thick hide. A small fire casted an orange glow throughout the room, making the room smell heavily of smoke. His hands were suspended above him, they were tied to a wooden frame with thick leather rope. Mikey smiled to himself, all he had to do was change and then he could get out away from the warlocks. Mikey's smiled faded when he couldn't change, he physically couldn't change, his body wouldn't allow it.

“We gave you a potion, you won't be able to change as long as it's in your system.” Mikey's head snapped up, and saw a man walking towards him. He had shoulder length black hair, a strand of it was braided. He wore fitted leather pants and a loose black, cotton shirt. His purple eyes glowed brighter in the firelight.

“You have no idea what you've done. I'm the brother to the chief! The whole tribe will be looking for me!” Mikey shouted, his voice sounded hoarse.

“Why do I doubt that? You were all by yourself…and with a bite mark of a wolf on your forearm. I don't think your brother will risk anymore precious lives for one.” The man’s voice was smooth, he was close to Mikey now.

“Your wrong.” Mikey growled, even though on the inside he knew the man was right. “Who are you anyway? Why are you taking our people?”

“I am Marcus, the leader of the warlocks. We were tired of living in our holes, your people need to die for our survival.” He stated.

“We could talk about another treaty. We don't have to do this anymore.” Mikey said, Marcus smiled.

“That's easy for you to say now, when you are our prisoner. Sadly for you, I am not here to discuss a treaty. You are going to help me.”

Mikey snorted, “Help you with what?”

“You are going to give me the location of your tribe.” Marcus snapped, his face rigid.

Mikey smirked, “It’s pathetic really that you'd think I'd help you kill my own people.”

“The two hunters did, after a few days of…heavy persuasion. And I think you will do the same, I have some pretty good persuasive tactics.” Marcus smiled, his face inches from Mikey's.

“You know what I think? I think you and all your little moles can go to hell.” Mikey snarled. Marcus slapped Mikey hard, splitting the younger man’s lip, he gripped Mikey's face hard between his thumb and forefinger, making Mikey wince.

“You listen here you little rat, I will get what I want from you, you will tell me where that filthy tribe of yours is. One way or another.” He roughly shoved Mikey's head to the side and left Mikey alone.

I'm going to write one right now. I couldn't do it earlier because today was the first day of the new semester and I had things to do. But just wait for about...20 minutes, and you'll have, at least, one new chapter :)
