Second Nature

A Half Blood With A Killing Past

Frank’s P.O.V

“You!” Blake screamed, fangs coming out instantly along with the red of her eyes which replaced her usually blue eyes.
“Look look she’s alive, she’s here Blake.” Gerard spoke quickly motioning to Anna stood at the side of him as my mother looked uneasy between the encounter.
“At what cost?” Blake spat out as Gerard looked down.
“Blake let me…” Anna started before Blake’s hand raised instantly silencing the girl.
“No I will not let you.” She glared at Anna before turning her attention back to Gerard. “How dare you take something so precious in this world and taint it with your venom.” She spat out, the snarl never leaving Gerard’s direction.
“She asked me. It was the only way to keep her safe.” Gerard spoke calmly, never moving from his spot. “It was the only way to keep her alive.”
“NO!” screamed Blake “the way to keep her safe was to remove her from the house. Like I said. You both should have left. I trusted you to protect her! I trusted you to keep her safe and instead you have condemned her to this life. What kind of life is this Elder Way? Hey? It’s not as fabulous as the movies and books make out is it?” She screamed out, struggling against the doctor and myself who were stopping her from getting off the bed.
“There’s nothing wrong with being one of us Blake.” He reasoned with her.
“Nothing wrong with it?” She laughed a menacing laugh. “You Elders think yourselves so above everybody else, what with your protection programmes and your higher status when your nothing more corrupt then us humans and youngens are.” She glared at him.
“This is your medication talking. You’ve been through a lot of stress.” He spoke quietly.
“You don’t know the half of it. Note this Elder Way, when I am better and fully recovered watch your back. Your next. You’re my next target and just like this mission I will not fail.” She snarled at him, fangs fully extended, finger nails lengthened and that deadly look in her eye.
“May I remind you, whilst I appreciate your help in saving my sons life and I am still a councilwomen and I have just witnessed you threatening an Elder, Miss Darling. A punishable offence by the council.” My mother spoke out, as Gerard held his hand up. Before me or the doctor could do anything to stop her, Blake flew off the bed pinning my mother up against the wall.
“Blake!” I screamed as I tried to pull her off, my mother glaring at her.
“And what’s the punishment for treason Councilwomen Iero?” Blake smirked as my mother’s face fell.
“I have no idea what you are talking about Miss Darling and I am going to give your three seconds to remove yourself off me before I consider this to be a threat on my life.” She spoke coldly as Gerard and I pulled her away.
“Blake what’s gotten into you?” Anna spoke stroking her cheek once we got her settled in bed.
“What’s gotten into me is your life is over.” She looked up at her best friend crying softly. “He should have never have turned you. This is no life A. Its torture and miserable and dead. You were the sunshine that kept me going, and he stole that from you. She stole it from you.” Blake continued to glare at my mother, who was looking anywhere but at her gaze.
“Blake, it is Linda’s councilpersons who helped to save you and Frank she is not the enemy.” Anna carried on as Blake let out a hearty laugh.
“Oh congratulations ‘Linda’ truly well done. You’ve set this up so perfect. Tell me why you donated towards my child.” Blake questioned.
“Oh do not be so ridiculous Miss Darling. The baby is my granddaughter, who is in danger, of course I would donate for her. Thankfully, she has an exceptional father who will be able to raise her in the correct and proper way without the need for her emotionally unstable mother.” My mother spat out as I shouted at her.
“And what about her unhinged grandmother?” Blake smirked.

“What is going on?” I questioned after a couple of minutes of silence, my mother and Blake glaring at each other across the room. The doctor had excused himself from the awkward atmosphere.
“Go on councilwomen Iero. Look your son in the eye and tell him what you did. Tell him the reason I was brought into his life. Tell him the reason why he survived. Tell him the reason why you’re so god damn scared when you realised I survived. Go on Linda.” She smirked as I looked up at my mother.
“There’s nothing to tell.” My mother looked away as I caught her gaze.
“Mother what’s going on?” I asked slowly.
“I think we should leave.” Gerard spoke quietly, taking Anna’s hand.
“No stay.” I spoke out surprising myself with the anger.
“Time for your honesty Linda.” Blake pushed further.
“OK! You survived because that was always going to be the outcome!” My mother screamed looking over at me.
“What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, I set the whole thing up. My vision showed me that she was going to come into your life at some point!” She never took her gaze off me as she carried out, “you was going to meet and you was going to fall in love. I saw you give up your Eldership to be with her. Something you had worked so hard for! I was not going to let that happen! I was not going to let some stupid half-blood bitch spoil everything for you!” She spat out glaring at Blake. “The night she was turned I’d been out and met Dorian. I took some of his blood, left him in the alley way and waited for her there. I threatened her and stabbed her in the hip whilst I injected the blood with his venom into her stream. I let her drop and Dorian woke up before she did, he went along with his life believing he’d turned her. I contacted Zachary told him I’d send him the positions of some of the dangerous vampires if he’d send her on the missions. She was never supposed to meet you. Any one of them missions should have killed her.” She spoke with dripping venom off each word.
“But Zach had a different deal. Edith’s deal. So he trained me up exceptionally so I would survive to last for the last mission. He met with you and told you Frank would survive but I wouldn’t. He double played you, his aim was always to kill Frank and Edith’s aim was always to kill me.” Blake spoke finishing off the story.
“How did you find out?” My mother looked over at her, a little curiosity covering her face.
“Elena gave me a potion and told me to go to Zach’s office. I found out about the reasons behind Frank’s assassination. She also told me to look out for someone I would never suspect. I saw your name and I thought you was next on his list. You were by the way. He couldn’t let you live with the knowledge you knew. Then when Dorian saved me after I was shot we both got flashbacks from that night. And for the first time I knew who had actually turned me. It wasn’t Dorian it was you with his venom. That night at the gala you noticed me staring at him and you remembered him. That’s why you wouldn’t let me speak to Frank all night. You bit me so you knew if he came near me and disguised it as protection. I must admit I fell for it. I thought you was truly there to help me save him, turns out I was fighting your battle all along.”
“Frank I did it for you.” My mother looked over at me, as I felt Blake hug me from behind, I rested my hands on hers as she kissed my shoulder. “When you raise your baby you’ll see the need to protect.” She tried to use my child against me.
“You’re having nothing to do with our child.” I spat out at her. “You should leave.” I looked away.
“Do not for one second think this will save you from death Miss Darling. You have no proof and after all you are a half blood with a killing past. I am an exceptional member of the council with nothing but compassion for others. Even if these three speak out against me, it will be you who is considered to manipulate them. I will get my family back. I will see my granddaughter but not before I see you rot in a council cell.” My mother spat as she was in Blake’s face before disappearing.
