Second Nature

“So if we’re going on these skiing holiday then can I use your computer to do some online clothes shopping? Everyone knows when you go on holiday you need a new wardrobe.” I looked up at Frank smiling.
“I suppose so, I have a spare one in my office, and I’ve got some work to do anyway.” He smiled looking up at me from his papers as he stood up holding his hand out to me. I quickly took it smiling and followed him up to his office smiling. He got me set up on the computer on the spare desk before walking over to his desk which was at the side of mine, creating an L shape. “So about last night.” He looked up at me as he waited for his computer to load.
“I thought we agreed to not talk about it.” I laughed loading my favourite clothing website up, not really focusing on his face.
“But I want to talk about it. I mean you was naked.” He laughed typing away.
“And so was you.” I laughed looking up at him making sure he wouldn’t notice me insert the USB.
“Yeah but I don’t look like you naked.” He smiled over at me as I threw a pencil at his head. “It was different.” He said after a while causing me to look at him very quickly.
“How do you mean different? Bad different?” I asked panicking a little.
“No, good different. Very good different. I have never done that with a vampire human half breed.” He smiled over at me as I blushed. “I loved it.” He smirked as I threw another pencil at his head.
“Loser.” I laughed as I went back to my searching. I skimmed through the file making sure the volume was turned off and playing a video with the subtitles on.
“Name of target is a Mr Frank Anthony Iero. Age 658 years old. Pure Blood. Assigned to Ms Blake Darling. A peace restorer and human fighter. Reason for death with him in our world power never will be fully obtained.” I quickly read the subtitles of Zach’s usual video information. I scanned through the rest of his file when I came across an unusual excerpt, opening the file I suddenly realised this was a very personal case for Zach.
“Name of target: Frank Anthony Iero. I have decided to take down this elder in hopes of achieving power majority in the rest of the elder world to sway a vote on absolute destruction of the human race. Furthermore, I have a lot more personal reason being that exactly 300 years ago to this month he stole away the one woman who would have helped to stop me from becoming so corrupt. I want my revenge and I hope that before he dies I have the opportunity to tell him the reason for his death could have easily been prevented had he not taken her away from me. My way to achieve the vote is to use a half breed vampire I have been training who still retains human attributes, her scent will be caught on his lifeless body and the elders will come to fear the human race.” I read the extract biting my lip as I realised that this is exactly what he trained me to do. He gave me all those top cases because he knew this was my ultimate ending. He knew that this would be the death of me. I took a deep breath quickly trying to shut out those thoughts, but all I could think of is who ultimately betrayed who.
“You ok you’ve gone a little pale.” I heard him laugh from the other side of the room as I quickly looked up at his face. He was completely oblivious as to what Zach had planned for him. So innocent. “I mean paler than normal.” He winked at me as I smiled slightly.
“Just found this super-hot swimsuit but I know it’s not suitable for the cold climate. Why couldn’t we go somewhere hot?” I laughed looking back down at the screen.
“Yeah because we cannot all be like you.” He smiled as we fell back to silence again.

“Can I ask you something?” I looked over at him slowly after scanning some of the other elder’s files, all of who was involved in dodgy dealings.
“Of course.” He spoke looking at me with concern.
“Did you know everyone at the gala?” I bit my lip asking him slowly. Pretty sure I knew the answer.
“Most yes. But some of the new soon-to-be elders I didn’t. Why do you ask?” This time he slide his chair a little to the side so that his view of me wasn’t obstructed, making me feel extremely open.
“It was just a got a weird feeling off one of them and wondered if he was some relative of yours who too wanted me dead.” I tried to shrug and laugh it off, instantly regretting starting on this topic of conversation.
“Who was it?” He pushed further.
“I didn’t speak to him. Just a feeling is all.” I shrugged again trying to focus back on the screen biting my lip.
“Was it him?” He turned his screen towards my direction as my eyes widened. “I’ll take that as a yes.” He stared at me for a short time until he started to roll his chair over, making me flip to the shopping site very quickly. “What feeling did you get off him?” He asked sitting in front of me now.
“Just like he knew all my deep dark secrets. It was like he could see in to my soul.” I whispered not looking down at him, but twisting my hands as he took hold of them.
“Blake I think he has something to do with your past. I don’t trust him. I want you to stay away from him if you ever come across him again ok? I need to try and find out who he is. Yeah? Promise me that at least?” He begged me with only protection as the motivation.
“I promise.” I whispered as I kissed him gently.
He kissed me back before stroking my cheek. “I’m going to go have a smoke and grab us some drinks do you want anything else?” He asked as he kept kissing me.
“No thanks.” I smiled as I watched him go.

I waited until I knew he was downstairs before rushing over to his desk and using his phone.
“Hello Iero residence.” The female voice rang out.
“Hi yes I need to speak to Mrs Iero very quickly please.”
“Mrs Iero has asked not to be disturbed can I take a message.”
“No I want to speak to Mrs Iero. Tell her it’s regarding Master Iero. She will understand.” I pushed even further, anger coming through my voice as I quickly heard the fumbling of the handset.
“Hello Mrs Iero speaking.”
“He wanted to use me to cause a war between the humans and vampires. He knew my scent would be found on his body and that it would be like a human attack. He knew he could solve his problem with me and he could get revenge and power from Frank.” I quickly spoke desperately not wanting Frank to walk in.
“Revenge for what?” Linda spoke quietly.
“A girl.” I whispered as I heard her gasp. I heard a ding come from the computer I was on as I rushed over to it.
“Very clever Blake. Took me a while to realise what you had done but now I know. It’s time. See you VERY soon.” A pop up message came up as I download the attachment which showed several of Zach’s workers all armed in their mission gear.
“He’s here!” I shrieked down the phone to her. “It’s happening now Linda. NOW!” I screamed before hanging up and running to the top of the stairs.
