Can't Trust a Girl in Blue
Ch 2
"Stop it Echo!" Shouts Kat through tremendous amounts of giggles, "No one likes to be tickled!!" Kat playfully shoves Echo, but Echo looses her balance and falls to the floor with a hard thud.
Echo sits up, eyes a bit teary.“But it makes me feel better to hear someone laugh.” Echo looks down at the floor beneath her. As she wipes her eyes her wrists show scars that neither sister wants to remember. Worry and regret, desperation and despair show through. Sad by each other’s thoughts, showing to be the same.
“I know it does. But I don’t need tickled, you dork.” Kat explains as she tries to lighten the mood again, still feeling sorry for knocking her off he bed like that.
Kat starts to feel guilty, she had ruined her sisters rare happiness. “Why don’t we try to eat?” she says as she hands her little sister a small slice of left over pizza from two nights ago. Echo just climbs back onto the bed and lays face down on the broken, single blanket mattress.
Kat hated living like this, they both did; but, neither could honestly do anything about it. A part of Kat wished their mum could be there with them to help, but the other part was happy she didn't have to suffer anymore than she already had.
Kat had gazed off in thought, and Echo rolled over to look up at her sister. Then a thought popped into Echo's mind, "Hey Kat?"
Shaking her head, Kat looks down at Echo, then tugs at her kandi covering her wrists. "Yes dear?"
"What can we do for my birthday next week?" Echo’s face torn between desperation and worry.
"What do you want to do?" Kat says without looking up from her kandi that she kept reading over and over, remembering when she made them, and why.
“I don’t know.” Echo pauses in thought before she continues. “Maybe we can go to the big park across town where Mum would take us when we were young. Can we do that?” She smiles bright at the idea.
Kat pauses and looks up at Echo’s excited expression. “Now, I can’t promise,” She looks away knowing the distance is much, “but we can try.”
“Yaayyy!” Echo exclaims hugging her sister.
“Hush! You know how Mr. Way takes to us already. He might kick us out if you keep shouting.” Kat looking worried at her younger sister, then guilty for how she had shouted at her.
Echo looked down, feeling bad for shouting. "I'm sorry Kat..."
"Don't be sorry love, there's nothing to be sorry for." Kat looks down at her kandi one last time, then over at the clock that read 2:38. "Maybe we should try and sleep."
Echo nods and with that they both climb under the single blanket face to face. Echo closes her eyes, yet her cheek gets a small tear as thoughts of their mum start to tug; and soon Kat gets the same thoughts. Her dark blue eyes glow in the moons light as she turns off the tiny light that was the only thing illuminating the small, gloomy room. Soon she shoves her thoughts away long enough to let her sleep. She missed her mum, as did Echo; but they both needed sleep, and the less thoughts the better.
