Meet Mr. Way

Seven

“So, did you like Mikey?” Gerard sat on the chair next to hers in the music room; since the cold weather had arrived, their strolls around the school had become impossible. Instead, the pair had chosen the music room to chat away, sometimes a cup of coffee being shared by the two.

“I did. He seems to try a little too hard to look chill, but he was nice. Got me thinking about a few things, which isn’t a bad thing, I guess.” Angelica replied, her fingers trailing through the top of the black piano, where she had once played music with her Principal.
If she were to truly think about the last few weeks of her life, she would realize how much of a drastic change she had experienced. Never had she thought she’d be forming a solid friendship with the Principal of the school she studied at, let alone start developing a crush on him.

Yes, Angelica had long ago realized that her feelings towards Gerard Way weren’t as pure as a simple friendship. She often found herself thinking about his smile, the way he twitched with the ring on his finger when thoughtful, how his lips sank onto his lower lip whenever he felt anxious or nervous. She had never fallen for someone, but she had read enough about it to know that these were the ‘symptoms’ of someone who was starting to fall in love.

There was no hope inside her. Angelica was well aware that nothing could ever come of the pair; and, of course, the most important factor: Gerard Way simply wasn’t attracted to her in the slightest way.

“I’m glad he could help you. He’s good at his job, even if he sometimes tries a little bit too hard to blend in with the young ones.”The male chuckled at the memory of him trying to chat up with a few teenagers, a few weeks prior. “Also, I want you to get better. To feel better, Angelica. A girl like you should never feel as alone as you do.”

In an act of bravery, Gerard’s hand reached out to touch hers, a soft and gentle touch just to remind her that she wasn’t alone. In all the years he had lived, often did he feel alone. There were a few years when he sunk into a depressive state, thinking that there was no turning back. It was Mikey who pulled him back together, and the woman he had once considered the love of his life.

He had long ago given up on reminiscing over his past; she had turned out to be a disappointment, and Gerard knew better than to be stuck to memories of a painful past. If she wasn’t the one for him, he would find the one who was. And, although every fiber of his being told him that perhaps this wasn’t the way, he was almost certain that he was one step closer to find the one he had been looking for.

“Thank you.” Angelica’s voice was barely above a whisper, his touch on her hand causing her cheeks to turn a soft crimson color. She dared to hold onto his hand, fingers lacing with his in a gentle and cautious way.

This was dangerous territory that they were trespassing; their eyes averted to the door for a split of a second, both at the same time, afraid that someone could walk in and catch them together. When there was no sound coming from outside, the pair relaxed, eyes meeting again.

Angelica licked her dry lips, her eyes taking in every detail of his features, dropping to his lips and staying there for a while longer. It was impossible for her not to dream about what it would feel like to kiss him, to feel his lips on hers.

Gerard leaned in; it was nearing four in the morning, on a very dull Saturday. No one else was supposed to roam around the school, and the male doubted they were. The only two people inside the large building at the moment were them, and Gerard found that he didn’t wish it to be any other way.

It was dangerous to stand so close, to let her coconut scent fill his nostrils and cloud his better judgment. He couldn’t; although his lips craved for hers, his heartbeat increasing with every second that ran by, he knew he wasn’t supposed to slide into the temptation that was Angelica. But how could a broken soul refuse another one, when they clearly could no longer take a breath without the other?

In a leap of faith, or pure madness, the male reached for her, both hands now cupping her small face and bringing her lips to his. There was a moment where their lips were barely touching, skin against skin, as they both enjoyed the warmth they shared. Gerard’s eyes closed, every other of his senses working better now, thumbs stroking her crimson cheeks before his lips finally started to move against hers.

Angelica was paralyzed for a few seconds, her mind working to process if this was yet another one of her wishes, or truly happening. Not daring to understand if her mind was playing a dark trick on her, her small hands curled around his wrists, keeping his hands where they were before she moved her own plump lips against his in synch. It was her first kiss, yet it seemed as if they had already shared a hundred kisses.

She was a fragile thing on the inside, even though she had dealt with more than most people, with such strength that even Gerard found himself admiring her. He treated her as a porcelain doll, breaths mixing together and filling the room with small gasps, before they finally parted their lips.

It took the both of them a few seconds to succumb into reality, eyes meeting once again. There was the realization of what they had been doing, but no regret. There was no guilt, no worry as she had expected to see on the older man’s features. Just like her, Gerard didn’t regret finally doing something bold in his life.

“This is wrong, isn’t it?” She was the first one to break the silence, tongue trailing the lines of her now reddish lips in an attempt to keep his tasted locked for a little while longer.
Gerard was still close to her, hands not having dropped from her face, his thumbs still making the same circular moves against her tanned skin. There was so much beauty inside and out of the girl, that he could swear she could not ever be human.

There was a brief pause, making Angelica’s heart leap from her chest. If she had her lips parted, she would swear that the organ would fly out of her mouth with all the anxiety filling her insides. He was gentle again when he spoke, a smile covering his lips, one that she couldn’t decipher if it was sadness being covered with his best trait, or a genuine one.

“I’m afraid I’ve lost control of what is wrong or right since you appeared in my life, dearest Angelica.”
