You'll Never Take Me Alive

But the past ain't through with you.

The large camp located just off get-a-way mile is in darkness, save by a four flood lights on each corner of the set up. It’s surrounded by a newly erected chain linked fence put up only 36 hours ago by Better Living Industries to keep the Killjoys from trying to get back in.

By each flood light there are a few patrollers watching the destroyed town and the desert surrounding them. But these patrollers aren’t like Jennifer; these masked men are highly trained killers, with explicit orders to shoot on sight – to kill on sight.

Party Poison and Jennifer have abandoned the car a few hundred meters out of the flood lights reach and have sunk up the to fence.

Jennifer:Whispering. What are you looking for?

Party Poison:My way in.

Jennifer:There isn’t a way-

Party Poison:A-ha!

Part of the fence has been cut and pulled back. He pulls it back enough to allow Jennifer to go through.

Party Poison:Ladies first.

Jennifer:What? I’m not going in there.

Party Poison:Why?

Jennifer:I’ve brought you back. I’m leaving.

Party Poison:Leave? You’re going back there? To them?

Jennifer:Yes-

Party Poison:Over my dead body.

He pushes her through the fence, she starts to protest. Just as she opens her mouth to scream, Party Poison grabs her by the shoulders and shakes her.

Party Poison:I’ve counted 12 Blind soldiers around the perimeter. If you scream, they will find us and no matter what excuse you come up with they will make an example out of the both of us – or we’ll be lined up in front of a firing squad at dawn – do you want that!?

She frowns at him, thinking. He holds her tighter.

Jennifer:No.

He nods her towards the gap in the fence.

Jennifer:I just want to go home.

He sighs impatiently and before she can justify herself he knocks her over her head with his elbow, knocking her out cold and into his waiting arms.

Jennifer wakes up in a darkened room to people arguing. She’s been sat on the cold floor, propped up against a red brick wall. Her head is pounding and she raises her fingers to the back of it, and looks at the dry specs of blood on her hand. She groans but no one else in the room seems to notice. She slowly looks around the room, it has a few items in it from knocked over chairs and a sofa to cardboard boxes opened and their contents spilling as if someone has rummaged through them. The room is cold, dark and grimy.

A woman is saying something to Party Poison but Jennifer can’t hear the words, just the noise. In a haze she can see the woman pointing at her while shouting at Party Poison. There are two men, one bigger than Party poison and the other the same size, nodding their heads in agreement.
Just then the words of Party Poison snap Jennifer out of her confusion.

Party Poison:I’m not going to let her die! She’s one of us!

Gold Dust:No she isn’t! She works for Blind – she’s a spy-!

Jennifer:Groggily. I’m an inner city patroller.

Party Poison turns around to look at her with a smirk on his lips.

Party Poison:Welcome back.

Jennifer uses the support of the wall to sit up.

Jennifer:I just want to go home-

Gold Dust:She can’t be allowed – we need to silence her and the only way to do that is by-

Party Poison:Rounding on Gold Dust, his smirk long gone. I’m not letting you kill her!

A man who was in the corner, separated from the four people arguing walks to Jennifer. He’s got a pretty bad limp, but obvious he’s had it for years, but still puffs as the movement is more effort than it should be. He stands over Jennifer and hands her a bottle. She frowns.

Dr D:It’s only water, sunshine.

After a split of a second she takes the bottle and downs its contents while Dr D picks up a chair, turns it the right way and sits next to her.

Jennifer:Handing the half emptied bottle back. Thank you.

Dr D:Keep it. How’s your head?

Jennifer:Throbbing.

He chuckles to himself.

Dr D:Yeah, he hit you a bit too hard. Man doesn’t know his own strength.

Jennifer studies the man for a few moments while Party Poison is shouting about his rank and how his orders should be obeyed.

Jennifer:Are you Dr. Death-defying?

Dr D:Are you a spy?

Jennifer:No.

Dr D:Then I am.

Jennifer:Woah-!

Dr D:You know of me?

Jennifer:You’re pretty famous…not to Blind…my friend – he’s a big fan-

Dr D:Don’t do what I do to be famous.

Jennifer:Oh no – I…we – Tim – he listens to you for, you know…the traffic.

Dr. D makes a noise in the back of his throat. She can’t tell if it’s out of annoyance of if he’s actually surprised.

Dr D:You called them ‘Blind’.

Jennifer:Sorry?

Dr D:Better Living Industries. You called them ‘Blind’, I’ve never heard a Dropper call them that, that’s all.

Jennifer:A Dropper?

Dr D:People who take the Blues-

Jennifer:I don’t-…

He looks down at her.

Jennifer:I mean – uhm…I heard you call The Industry that.

He nods, his eyes locked on hers as if he was reading her mind.

Dr D:Well then, he stands and offers his hand to hers, we best be getting you home
