Divided

College was never suposed to be easy, but it was suposed to be a time of my life where I could have some form of fun, meet new people, learn more, discover what can I do with my future, and with my life.
Of course that would have been a lot easier if my life and future hadn't been already planned out for me since before I was born...
My name is Jane Rose Way, I'm 21 and I'm a Forensic Psychology student in New York City. I am also a Caster, a witch, if you like, I don't really, because of the steriotype attached to it...
I have to older brothers, Gerard and Mikey, both of them Dark Casters, although Mikey is the most rational one of the two, rational meaning he's not so into the whole Dark Caster tradition, expecially not when it comes to the animal sacrifice rituals to celebrate the new season. Gerard on the other hand, is ALL about tradition, like I like to say, "He's so Dark, his bones are black".
I don't have a side, yet, I haven't been Chosen. We Casters use the word "Chosen" so it doesn't sound as bad as it really is. The truth is that women CAN'T chose their side, they're either pulled to Dark or to the Light, there's no option of choice available. Men on the other hand are allowed to chose, altought most of them are forced to chose the side of they're family, only very rarely comes along a man that choses what he wants, but that hardly ever happens.
I've never been much keen on tradition, expecialy not our families tradition. I've always been sort of an outcast in my family, never relaiting to anyone in particular and always living inside my head and between the pages of my books.
As I was groing up my family always thought that one day I would just accept who I was and what was expected of me, that day never came. In fact, the day that I said that I wanted to go to human college was the day it was proven, that I would never be who they wanted me to be.
Even though they were against it, I still went to New York to study.
I love New York, it's so different from back home, and I don't have to worry about tradition here. However, like always, all good things must come to an end, and this end was the end of the schools semester and the begining of summer vacations, which for me meant, going back home.
I've been fearing this summer my intire life. If could run away from it, or fast foward time to skip it, I would. This is the summer were I get Chosen.

Going home was hard, not only psychologicly (because of the Chosing ceremony), but also physicly hard! Packing all my books and clothes and carrying them around an airport isn't something I would wish to anyone!
The plane to Denver was on time, and so was the plane to Aspen. In Aspen I would have a car (or a limo) waiting to take me home, up in the middle of the mountains.
As I was waiting for the call to board the plane, I get a phonecall.
"Gerard" says the caller ID
"Great..." I say between my teeth and put the phone to my ear
"Hello?"
"Are you on your way home?"
"Well hello to you too sunshine!"
"Are you on your way home?" he says, angry.
"Yes Gerard, I'm waiting to get on the plane."
"There will be a welcome ceremony waiting for you, Mikey will pick you up ate the airport. I hope you're presentable."
Before I can even answer he hungs up the phone.
I look down at my clothes, black all stars, jeans and a hoody...
"Well," I think "Even if he did gave the "heads up" earlier I would probably just ignore him and go like this so...."
I put my phone in my pocket and grab my things, they're calling all passengers to board the plane.
I enter the plane and take my seat. On my lap sits the" Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe" and a pair of orange headphones .
The pilot says that we are about to take off, I take a deep breath...
"This is going to be a loooong summer..."
