Before The Sun Goes Down

We're All Dead Now.

Almost all of the myths surrounding vampires are false.
We can come out during the day time, but we just choose not to, because, as we all know, it's easier to hide. Well, and to stalk and kill your prey, but really only animals will know about that.
Not all of us are pale, it all depends on what your skin tone was before you got turned by an elder, council member or necromancer. If you were pale before, you just get a little paler, due to the lack of blood, same with if you were dark.
We don't all have amazing, magical powers. Only the people that were good before they got turned get abilities, but even then they might not be very good. Like this vampire in the Amazon rain forest, he saved his whole village from a fire, dying in the process, and when he was turned he could barely even control a lit match, he's a very unskilled elemental.
We can't be slayed by a stake through our heart, our hearts are basically dead anyway, so don't try it. The only way we can die is if another un-human being, like a lycanthrope, rips off our limbs, sets fire to our torso and then places the limbs in different places in the world. The limbs preferably have to be buried, but if you put a spike in them, making them have to stay in place, it should work.
We don't shy away from crosses, rosary beads, holy water, or anything religious. Although garlic is too flavorful for us to be able to stand it, it doesn't have any ill effect on us at all.
If you approach one of us with a string of garlic around your neck, a cross in one hand, holy water in the other with a string of rosary beads wrapped around your wrist, we'll laugh at you and then suck your veins dry of blood.
We don't fucking sparkle when we go out into the sunlight, either, we're vampires, not fucking fairies.
We do have supernatural strength, above average intelligence, enhanced senses, and some of us can fly. We heal fast, but not as fast as a necromancer or lycanthrope can. We look like human beings, we act like human beings. We can dye our hair, have it cut and it grow back, loose teeth, break bones, get bruises, tattoos, piercings. We have the same fears as we did before we died, same favorite places, artists, music, even foods.
That is, if we can remember anything from before our heart stopped. It's extremely hard for us to get any recollection back from anything that happened in our past life, and if you do it's considered amazing.
Take me, for instance, I can remember my first name, which is Gerard, and vague accounts of some time spent with a boy named Frank. Just about every memory I have is with him, and the way I felt about him. I felt unconditional, deep love for him, I can tell that much. But, something terrible must have happened for me to wake up next to my gravestone as a vampire.
I can't remember anything to do with anyone or anything, but I somehow have what seems to be an endless amount of knowledge. I can't even remember my mother's name, if I even had one.
Which leads us to now, a year after I was dragged from the wooden prison and turned by the elder.
I've got three goals. To be able to control the bloodlust, to work on my powers until they are the best they can be, and to be able to start piecing things together from when I was alive.
I'm almost there with two of my goals, and they aren't the ones to do with remembrance. It's like a have a very bad long-term amnesia.
Tonight's meeting is very important, apparently. The elder dragged us out of our hiding places as soon as the short, tattooed man got in his car. The elder, Ernest, looked extremely worried, so I got Maude to calm him down using her abilities. It worked slightly, but his forehead is still creased.
Ernest watched the car drive all the way to the library, using one of his powers, which is enhanced vision.
Maude, one of the only females in our group, told us all telepathically to be wary of what we say unless we want a limb ripped off and burned tonight.
All of us put our guards up, Nikolai getting ready to disappear into the shadows if things got messy. Ernest slumped against the tree his usual straight-as-a-board posture slacking for a minute. He straightened up, somehow managing to look us all the eyes when he's actually looking above our heads.
"Friends, I have some bad, bad news," He has a slight Russian accent, so everything he says sounds serious, especially since he was a war general during World War Two as well. "That man is onto us. In fact, he was visiting your grave, Gerard, when he noticed the slight alterations we made to it and got scared. He's in the library right now, researching about us and the 'creatures' we call our friends." Nobody says anything for several minutes, the news barely sinking in.
"My grave? Why? Nobody has visited it for months..." I look over to the parking lot, as if he was still there, sitting in his car.
"I think his name begins with a F, Gerard, if that means anything to you... Whomever he is, he cares for you a great deal and is hurting greatly." An F? Could it be... Frank?
"What does this mean for us? Why is this such 'bad, bad news'?" Blue speaks up, imitating Ernest in a way that makes Ernest angry. Ernest's face start shifting into hideous creatures, making us all shrink back slightly. "I knew you were insolent, Blue, but I didn't think you were stupid as well. What does this mean for us?" He walks to Blue, leaning in closely. "I'll tell you. I had to leave Ireland almost two hundred years ago because something like this happened, Blue. One of the men got suspicious of me, investigated around, then told the townsfolk. Guess what happened? My manor house got burnt to the ground, I had to move countries, start another life. Oh, and I almost had the council kill me for it. I had to build my reputation back up again, I had to leave everything," Blue's emotions are playing back onto the weather, which has suddenly turned stormy. "Do you want that to happen to us? But, this time, the council probably will get a necromancer or some fey to tears us apart," The silence that follows from Blue make Ernest even more mad, and soon it isn't just his face shifting, it's his whole being. "Well, do you?" He raises his voice, making Blue jump and shrink back, a lightning bolt going off as it mirrors his surprise. He shakes his head, back away, and Ernest gets away from him, his body still shifting.
Maude uses her powers to calm the two down, and the storm lets up a bit, as does the harshness of the shifting Ernest is doing. "Now, Ernie, what are we going to do?" Maude uses Ernest's nickname to lighten up the situation, smiling at him. Ernest doesn't smile back, instead he sighs. "We must watch him. When he gets solid proof, or he starts gathering crosses, cloves of garlic and stakes, we kill him," He faces me, his cool facial expression softening a bit. "If he is anything to you, Gerard, then I'm sorry, but he can't find out our secret.," He looks away from me, facing all of the group. "Maude, Gerard, go and do some investigating now, he's still in the library. Gerard, remember to shift into someone else, otherwise he'll recognize you." I nod at him, catching Maude's eye. She smiles at me, her eyes mischievous.
Ernest then starts to walk away, not saying anything else to us, but sighing.
"Okay... Now what?" Nikolai's voice breaks the silence, and the tension. Blue, and Aubree shrug. "We could go hunt?" Blue smiles at Aubree's suggestion, him and Nikolai nodding their heads. "Me and Gerard have to go and 'investigate', remember. We won't be too long, and if you're still hunting we'll join you once we're done, okay?" They nod their heads at us, and we start to walk away. I shift into somebody completely different, making sure there's no chance Frank could recognize me.
"Shall we go, Gerard?" Maude smiles at me, and I smile back, nodding. "We shall, Maude, we shall."

This is probably the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me, so thank you very, very much

Fuck. I don't think I've ever cried so much ever. You should think about writing for a career. Very good storyline. Keeps people hooked with lots of twists and turns and a beautiful albeit sad ending. Fabulous :) I've been hooked from the first chapter of forget about the dirty looks. You have a brilliant way of stringing words together to create emotions. Never stop reading and writing because you have undeniable talent. Lots of love for you from this end
