Chapter 33

"All right Frank," my doctor started as she looked between my legs, "it looks like you'll be able to start pushing very soon."

"Seriously? How much longer?" I asked.

It's now one in the afternoon and I had been in labor for about twelve hours now and had been awake for over a day now, I'm exhausted.

"Maybe an hour or so." She responded.

"And once I start pushing how long until she fully out?"

"It depends for every person, some people maybe fifteen minutes, others it can be up to forty-five minutes."

"Ugh."

"Doctor, Frank has been awake for a long time, can we like turn up his pain meds so he can get some sleep before he starts to push?" Gerard asked.

"That is something to be concerned about, the best we can do is let him sleep for about thirty minutes but no longer, but he has to be awake for the pushing part. If he gets to tired we may have to go in surgically to take her out."

"You mean a C-section." I pointed out, great.

"We'll cross that road when we get to it." He assured me then walked to the monitors next to me and hit a few buttons. "The pain should go down, try to take a nap." She said before leaving.

"Get some sleep Frank, you need it." Gerard told me before I began to close my eyes and drift off.

I woke to Gerard lightly shaking me.

"Frank wake up, they're going to lower your pain medication."

"No I'm tired." I said and tried to swat away Gerard's hands but he just laughed and grabbed my hands. This made me start to open my eyes. Gerard was still sitting next to me while my doctor was standing next to the monitors again.

"Okay Frank, you're ready to either start pushing or go through a C-section, it's your choice. Do you feel like you have the strength to push?" She asked.

"I don't know, I'm really tired, I feel like the whole labor thing took a lot out of me. But I don't think I want a big operation." I honestly answered.

"Frank its okay to get a C-section, my son was born like that. It's a couple week recovery but if you get too tired during birth you can hurt your baby." She told me.

I looked over to Gerard and he gave me a nod, I sighed before turning back to the doctor.

"I guess we're having a C-section."

"Alright, I'll book an OR, is there anyone you want with you?"She asked.

"Yeah, Gerard and my mom." I told her.

"Alright, sit tight and in about an hour you'll be holding your baby girl." She smiled at me and patted my shoulder.

I gave her a weak smile before leaning back and closing my eyes again.

"Did you want to go back to sleep? I can get the nurse back into to increase your pain meds?" Gerard offered.

"No, I'm fine." I said and smiled at him; he grabbed my hand and kissed it gently before smiling at me. "You know Josh is most likely going to be here tomorrow." I told him,

"Hey, don't think about him. Just think about little Eliza, our daughter." He said, and he was right, the adoption papers went through and he was now legally Eliza's dad.

I smiled at him before closing my eyes and relaxing a bit before they took my body, sliced it open, forcibly removed my child, they stitched me back up. While I was resting Gerard had texted my mother and told her that we were having a C-section and I wanted her in the room with us, she was back in the room in less than five minutes. My dad came with her and the three of them engaged in small talk, I think they tried to include me at some point but I was too busy thinking about the C-section, I was really nervous about it.

"Alright Frank." My doctor said coming back in wearing scrubs, she also had two extra for both Gerard and my mom.

"Yeah," I said surprisingly calm, "let's go have a baby."
