The Girl Next Door
These Words are Knives That Often Leave Scars
"Jinx, get the hell down here!" Dad yelled from downstairs. I glanced over at the clock sitting on the nightstands. 7:14. Crap. I'm going to be late for school. I jump out of bed looking for my clothes.
"I'll be down in a sec, dad!" I call, pulling my pants on. I walk over to my closet and grabbed the first shirt I see. I loose long sleeved Green Day shirt. Good. I rush to the mirror, winging my eyeliner and applying mascara. I grab my phone and headphones and run downstairs. Before I can run out the door, mom stops me in the kitchen doorway,
"Don't you want breakfast?" She asks in her small whisper of a voice.
"Mom, you know that I don't eat." I whisper back, not risking dad finding out. Another reason to beat and humiliate me.
Before she can answer, I grab my bag and run out the door. It's about half a mile to school and I have five minutes to get there. When I step outside, I squint against the sun. I look over when I hear somebody talking.
"Do you need a ride to school?" A thin boy with glasses asks, standing a few feet away. He looks to be about a year younger than me. Another boy, maybe my age, leans against the car behind him. I know that their brothers only because I saw them yesterday and mom told me. The one talking to me was Mikey. He was thin, tall, blonde, and had light brown eyes. His brother, Gerard, was older, but was shorter with shoulder length raven black hair and dark brown eyes.
"Um... sure." I say quietly, feeling awkward. I follow Mikey to the car and get in the back. Neither of them say anything the whole ride to school.
"Do you want us to show you to the office?" Gerard offers.
"Sure." I follow him and Mikey into the school and to the office.
"Whats your name?" The older lady at the desk asks.
"Jinx-" Before I can finish, she hand me my schedule. Mikey takes it from me and scans it.
"We have math and Spanish together. You have art and science with Gerard." He says, handing my schedule back. Math is first period with Mikey. Gerard walks with us, earning stares from everyone in the hall. Three girls walk up.
"Hey, look, the emo got a girlfriend." One of them laughs.
"She's not my" Gerard starts, but she interrupts.
"Not your girlfriend? Emo fashion accessory? Slut? Anyways-" She grabs my arm, pulling me away from Gerard and Mikey. "If you want to ever make it in this school, I suggest you stay away from their group, slut. Though it won't help you much. Oh, and I'd try to hide your arms a bit better. Or buy better quality shirts." She hissed.
"What are you-" I was cut of when she grabbed my shirt sleeve and ripped it off. Everyone stared at the bruises on my arms.
I ran towards the closest bathroom, trying my best not to cry. I never told anyone about the abuse I got at home. No one knew about it, and I never planned for them to.
*Gerard's P.O.V*
I ran after Jinx, Mikey close behind. Not caring if it would get me detention, I didn't hesitate to follow her into the girls bathroom. I heard soft crying from the last stall. I softly knocked on it.
"Jinx? Are you okay?" I asked. She didn't answer. I stood there for awhile until she finally came out, her face stained with tears.
"Where did you get those bruises?" I asked.
"My dad." She sniffled.
