The Only Hope For Me Is You
Gerard? It's Frank...
GERARD
I wanted to see if Frank was okay after yesterday, so I raced from History to Art. I, as usual, was the first there, so I waited impatiently. Slowly the class trickled in, but Frank wasn't there. He finally came in last, and sat down quietly.
"Are you okay?" I asked quietly, since the teacher had started talking.
"Mm-hm." He replied, not looking at me.
"You sure?"
"Yes! I'm fine!" He whisper-yelled, turning towards me. He looked like he had gotten it bad from Brett. He had a black eye and a cut lip.
"Did Brett do all this to you?" I asked.
"No..." He replied.
"Then who did?"
"Umm... My dad. Please, don't tell anyone. He'll kill me, and that's not an exaggeration." He begged.
"I won't, I promise. Don't worry." That was one of many promises, but one of fewer I would keep.
FRANK
I wasn't too excited I had to go home, but I had Gerard's number if I needed to talk. My dad wasn't home when I got home, he was probably out getting drunk. I went to my room and laid down on my bed. Something didn't feel right. I reached under my pillow and found a note with a lot of money under it.
Frankie,
I'm so sorry, but I had to leave. I couldn't wait for you. This should be enough for a bus ticket and whatever you need. Be safe, be strong, be smart. I love you.
-Mom
I reread the note a few times. She was gone. My mom, the one person I could talk to, had left me. I pulled out my phone and dialed the newest contact.
"Hello?"
"Gerard? It's Frank."
"What's up?"
"It's my mom. She's gone."
