Just a Shadow In The Night (Mikey Way/OC)

The guys have kept me inside for 2 weeks now, not letting me leave the house, not letting me go out with them in public. Whenever Mikey and Gerard leave to go to ‘work’ they leave either Ray or Frank with me. I don’t understand why. Everyone seems more stressed lately, and theres something I don’t know about.

Tula lives here now too, she’s been here for almost a week. Ray thought I might’ve wanted to see her again and the rest of the boys fell in love, even though Gerard’s kind of allergic. She’s just too cute to leave alone.

Frank began brining guitars over to entertain me. I never knew he had such talent, but we usually sit together on the living room floor. He plays, I paint and we never say a word until we’re both done. He loves my paintings and I love his music.

In fact, we were doing just that before Mikey and Gerard walked in. Frank and I’s heads looked up at them. They seemed agitated, and I wanted to know what was up after being left in the dark.

Frank looked at me, and I at him before he said “I’ll go after Gee.”

So there I was, standing outside of Mikey and I’s shared bedroom, after he had slammed it behind him like an angry teenager. There was an awfully loud banging sound, that made me jump slightly.

I hesitated to knock, afraid of what could possibly be wrong.

Once I did, he took a moment to respond, but he answered calmly.
“Yes?”

“Mikey… Can I come in?”

I heard a shuffling sound and the doorknob turned to reveal a messy haired Mikey standing in the doorway.

“Y-yeah sure- come in.” He said, obviously trying to steady his voice.

I stepped in and immediately my eyes landed on a hole in the wall, opposite the door.
I glanced down at his hand and saw that his knuckles were bleeding and could potentially be sprained or broken.

“Sit down” I sighed before I walked into the bathroom and grabbed gauze, scissors and a cold cloth.

I sat down beside him on the bed and looked at him. He looked worn out. His eyes were bloodshot and had dark circles underneath them. His hair was dishevelled and he looked like he hasn’t worn a smile in days.

“So…” I spoke softly, gingerly wiping the small stream of blood off his knuckles. “Wanna tell me what’s wrong?”

“I don’t think I can” He said quickly, talking deep breaths.

“And why can’t you?” I asked, unraveling and cutting the gauze.

“Because I don’t want it to worry you.”

“Well, seeing you like this is worrying me, Mikey.”

He remained quiet, staring off into space as I began wrapping up his hand. Being careful not to injure him any further.

Once I was done, he retracted his hand, and we sat there in silence. The quiet strums of a guitar could be heard from the living room.

“Come on.” I said, grabbing his good hand. “Let’s go sit on the living room floor for a bit.”

I could see a ghost of a smile as we sat on the floor with Frank. Gerard was in the kitchen making coffee for everyone, and Tula was curled up in my lap. Mikey’s hand was holding mine as he leaned in and whispered in my ear.

“I’ll tell you tomorrow morning.”

And with that, we didn’t speak of it for the rest of the night.
