We're All Dead Now!

I Enjoy This Way More Than I Should

Later that night, Gerard, Frank, and I had gone out. It would look mysterious if the disappearances stopped right after the police came to question us. First, before we continued our growing legacy, I figured we should talk about it over coffee and cigarettes.

“So guys, what do you suppose happened?” I asked them quietly. It might’ve been 10 o’ clock, but the town’s late-night coffee shop still had its customers.

“Mikey went wrong. Ray went wrong. We didn’t go wrong.” Gerard said confidently.

“No, we definitely went wrong. We were seen with our victim, one of us was identified, and people started disappearing the first night we started going out. Two of these things, we can fix.” I said. They looked at me, and then at each other. I sighed. Sometimes, they can just be so thick.

“We have to be more careful. No matter what, we can’t be seen with anyone else who we choose to be our victims. That will just increase the chances of us having another police episode. We’ll also have to start wearing some type of makeup or other thing to cover our faces. Bandanas, maybe?” I said. They nodded. It was a fair plan. We didn’t ever suspect anything would change in our lives. Everything could go on just like we planned. We would move on with our lives and people would just keep “disappearing”. One line was playing in the back of my head, over and over again. It wasn’t any song I’d ever heard. It wasn’t any song that ever existed, as far as I knew. Maybe I’d write something to go with that line. I could finish what my imagination started. “And never again, and never again, they gave us two shots to the back of the head, and we’re all dead now! And never again, and never again...”

“We wouldn’t want you to get kidnapped, or anything.” Gerard said, using his signature line to lure in our prey. It was getting to be even more fun, doing this. We were experimenting with new ways of dragging out the deaths, torturing the victim all the while. Frank had suggested we add Duct Tape to our little death-trap bag. In the bag, there were also leather gloves, a towel, and, of course, the famous switchblade knife. I watched from my usual spot, up against the wall, as Gerard cut open the new target’s arm. She was a woman in her mid-forties. She had three kids, one 11, one 13, and one only 2. I only knew this, of course, because she had been my teacher last year. Poor, poor, Mrs. Fredrick. She had never liked me. She always gave my assignments bad grades, always called on me when I didn’t want to answer. She’s getting what she deserves, the ending of her life. Duct tape works wonders for her annoying voice. Her stomach was being sliced open by Frank, now. She was staring directly at me, her eyes showing her fear. I put a sinister smile on my face as she watched, in horror. She wasn’t yet dead. That was a good thing, too. I wanted her to watch me take out her insides. Her eyes were beginning to close, I saw her heart beats grow fainter, so I quickly cut out the straining organ. I felt it beat one last time in my hands before stopping altogether. I removed the dull grey tape from her mouth, replacing her ever-lasting frown with a dark red, ear-to-ear grin. “Another knife in my hands, a stain that never comes off...”

Notes

It's never a good idea to fail a psychopath.
