We're All Dead Now!

First Blood

It was one night in Newark that made us think of the plan. It was simple, we find someone old... weak... alone... any one would do. Then, we would get rid of them. After all, the world wouldn’t need or miss them. They were just another face in the crowd. It would be my job to clean it all up. I also had something else in mind.

“What if they were screaming as they died.” I had said.

“Then their face would be stuck just like that forever. That wouldn’t be very nice.”

“Well, then we make them smile!” Frank had said, laughing a bit.

“Okay, I have an idea in my head. I know exactly how we can do that.” I replied. Thus, our signature smile was born. That night, the first of many people went missing. She was walking down the street alone at midnight, her grey hair was curly, ending at her chin. Her back was hunched over, her silver-grey walking cane illuminated in the moonlight. The perfect candidate.

“Hello, ma’am.” Gerard said in his best I’m-a-nice-kid-not-trying-to-kill-you-or-anything voice.

“It’s very dangerous outside this hour. Would you like me to walk you home?”

“Why yes, young man, that would be very nice of you. I’m glad to see some kids still know the meaning of manners.” The old woman replied, grabbing onto Gerard at the elbow to steady herself and telling him her address. Frank an I were waiting in a nearby alleyway. Frank had his favorite switchblade knife in his pocket. Gerard walked by with the woman clinging to him. Gerard stopped in front of the alleyway.

“Oh, here’s a shortcut I know to get to your house.” He said leading her into the waiting arms of Frank. I leaned against the wall as my boys did the dirty work for me. I wasn’t one to stab. It was going to be my job to get rid of the evidence. Gerard’s arm was wrapped around the woman’s mouth to prevent her from screaming. Frank was busy opening her torso with his knife. Her body hit the floor, blood pouring out. She didn’t make a sound, though. She was to busy being dead and all. Frank and Gerard looked at me, their smiling faces splattered with crimson.

“Tisk, tisk, tisk.” I said.

“She wasn’t very happy with that, now was she.” Her face was stuck in a permanent scream, her eyes open with a fear that would never leave. I closed her eyes and motioned for Frank to give me the knife. He complied and I drew a bloody smile on her face.

“It’s a good thing we’re all wearing gloves.” I said.

“Now help me lift her into that dumpster over there.” I motioned towards the pile of rotting garbage in the corner of the alleyway.

“No evidence is good evidence!” I said, placing a towel I had found in the dumpster over the pool of blood. After it was soaked, I threw it on top of the woman and whispered to her,

“Have you heard the news that you’re dead?” I laughed at the though of what we just did. I felt powerful and amazing.

“Come on, let’s go get some coffee.” I suggested.

Notes

Coffee is quite yummy. I wouldn't blame them.
